Very nice hotel - would go back anytime

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our room was very nice and clean. Staff was very helpful.
I guess this is the Paris hotel for all Ammerican Airlines Crews..
Location is O.K., Orly bus stops direct in front of the hotel. Metro
Bottom line: Very nice hotel - would go back anytime

Comfortable rooms, very good value

from pccsch
One of my favorite hotel in Paris. Probably not the best hotel I ever seen, but they have very comfortable and well equipped rooms. The staff is friendly, and happy to help.

There is not a lot of restaurants around, but there is some little supermarket in which you can buy some drinks or snacks if you want to avoid minibar prices.

The location is very close to the metro and RER station, and you will be in the center of Paris in less than 10 minutes.

If you want a charming and romantic hotel, don't stay here. But if you need a good value hotel with comfortable rooms and a great staff, the Sofitel Paris Forum Rive Gauche is for you.

Nice clean room, Excellent breakfast

from dennis_ergb
This hotel was very nice, staff was friendly especially to a non-french speaking american. Clean room, with had plenty of room, not that we stayed in room much when we were awake. Excellent Maid Service.
It is a purpose built hotel, so if you are looking for "charm" I suggest elsewhere.
Breakfast was excellent. It's very close to the metro station, and if you want to stretch your legs just a bit you can walk to the busy area of mountparnesee (sp?).
One of the bus lines that goes right to the louvre drops off just down the block, within easy walking distance.
Seemed like all the staff we had contact with spoke at least some english.
We got the hotel through a "free and easy tour (your on your own if you want to be)" and given we only paid for the cheaper hotels this was a real bargain.
The hotel is very nice, I would gladly stay here again.
The only meal we ate at the hotel was breakfast.
The concierge was very accomodating in helping us book dinner reservations ( due to my very very poor french I needed some help)

Good 4 stars Hotel

I don't understand all post we can see on this hotel.
Ok this is not the best 4 stars hotel in Paris, there is a lot of better hotels than this one, but I stay several time in this Sofitel, and I get always a wonderfull time. The rooms are small, right like a lot of hotel rooms in Paris, but with pretty bathroom facilities.
The staff are so helpfull and kindly and always happy to welcome us.
I think this hotel is one in Paris where we can find the best rate for a 4 stars hotel. Most of members who post a previous review on this hotel should think if they pay a really 4 stars rate (like 350 Eur to 600 Eur per night in Paris) or a 2 stars hotels rate ? By paying a $130, it is normal to get standard non renovated room, in my opinion. By paying more, be sure you'll get a deluxe accomodation in every hotels around the world

s Day in Paris 2004

from A TripAdvisor Member
Before arriving in Paris I held very strong views about what type of reception we could expect. I was entirely amiss, which became very apparent upon our arrival to the hotel. From the first moment we were wlcomed warmly by all hotel staff we encountered. The front desk was most helpful in arranging our Valentine's Night on the town, and we had a night we will never forget.

The room was small, but we did not travel to Paris in order to stay in any room all day. The room was comfortable as was the bath. The room met our needs and then some. Room service was timely, and the maid service superb. We appreciated the small candy surprize we were given each day, along with the weather report card for the day.

The breakfast buffet was just outstanding! I dare say that we didn't have to have lunch at noon time after doing the morning buffet! The greeter at the door to the buffet was especially courteous and quite congenial each and every morning. Our compliments to him.

All Stars ar not Equal

This hotel is marketed as 4 star; in reality the rooms are closer to a 2 Star American hotel at best. The furnishings were outdated and worn, and the rooms were cramped. The only redeeming factors were the mini bar and the hotels proximity to the metro. Not worth the $130 US dollars we paid per night.

Not bad for the price paid

from Coluche105
I arrived at this hotel at around midday and, as the room planned for me was not yet ready, they upgraded me to executive. I must say that I would love to know what the standard rooms look like because there was nothing outstanding about this room at all except perhaps for the fact I had a plush bathrobe hanging in the bathroom. However, the staff was very nice, the room was nicely furnished and I have absolutely no complaints about this hotel except the fact that I had my cell phone stolen from my room. I take responsibility as there was a safe in the room which I (stupidly) did not use. The hotel is half a block from the Glaciere metro station, there are a few reasonable restaurants around it and I would go back without a doubt. I paid $101.00 which is unbeatable for a four star hotel in Paris. Oh and I forgot to mention that there is a small workout room on one of the upper floors.

Nice if you can name your price

Stayed for 2 nights in late October 2004 after staying at a 2-star near the Eiffel Tower. We got the room through Priceline b/c we wanted to upgrade for our last nights in Paris. It's a nice hotel with a grand lobby, but the room, while clean and quiet, was a bit worn. The area is not extremely populated with either people or restaurants, but the 3 Metro stops nearby (the farthest is about a 10 minute walk) hook you up with wherever you want to go. Just don't expect to walk out the door and have your pick of eateries, shops, or sights (though it is close to the catacombs). It's essentially a business hotel and every time we went to the lobby, it was full of airline attendants either checking in or out. I wouldn't discourage anyone from staying--it's nice, it just lacks a bit of character.

Not to bad, but good Breakfast

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at this hotel 2 separate times during a tour of France. The breakfast buffet was better than most other hotels. It is really close to Glaciere Metro station on the Green (6) line. This line has stops for the Eiffel Tower and Arch de Triumph. Bathrooms were modern and the room was clean. Not much more you can really ask for.
I would recommend the hotel. However, you can save some money and stay at a 3 star and get the same result.

Big business hotel with no charm, poor location, bad pillows

from mikestage
Stayed at the Rive Gauche in September. It is a 30 minute walk to the Latin Quarter, 15 minute walk to Montparnasse. there are to metro stops within a minute's walk that can take you anywhere in the city. The hotel is a big business-class hotel, with small rooms, terrible awful pillows, decent bathrooms, and decent service. The desk clerk was very kind to switch me to a room with a safe because mine didn't have one, even though it was considered an upgrade. There are a few expensive restaurants in the hotel, then a few very nice ones in the immediate neighborhood. Other than those restaurants, the neighborhood is devoid of anything to do or see. It is very quiet. For the money, you can do a lot better. STay in the center somewhere.

Top Local Tips for Paris

Getting around I definitely recommend folks take the time to learn the Metro. It is simple to understand and very accessible. It saved money on taxis and most times took you right to the location. Recommend purchasing the 10 trip-if there only for a short while. It served us great for two days. We also took the RER from near our hotel directly to the airport, which was very easy. It saved a taxi cab cost of about 60-70 euros. Our ticket on the RER (not subway) was only 8.25 euros a person.

Trains from Charles De Gaulle airport You can take the train from Charles De Gaulle Airport to the hotel if you packed light (we had one backpack and one small rolling bag each), want to save a few dollars, and feel like plunging yourself into the Paris masses immediately upon arrival. Take the RER from Charles de Gaulle and change trains at Nation. Take Nation, Line 6, Green, a couple of stops to Glaciere. There are better directions on the Paris Marriott Rive Gauche website that you can download and print out. Be sure to always save your ticket all the way through to the last stop!

Boat Ride My wife and I took the boat ride right next to Eiffel Tower. It's 10 Euro ($13 USD) and it's well worth it.
