Historical Traveller Reviews of Sofitel Paris Arc de Triomphe Hotel

good location

from Letstakeoff
Spent three nights at the Sofitel between Christmas and New Year. We booked on a special credit card promotion but did not get our free upgrade as advertised - we were given a small room facing the back with a queen bed. The bed was very comfortable though with a feather/down mattress cover. The main problem was the noise at night from the plumbing system and the next room through the connecting door, and the very strong odour of cigarette smoke although we were on a non-smoking floor.
Otherwise service was good and the best of all, breakfast was served till mid-day! Great for those who enjoy a lie-in. Location of the hotel is excellent - short walk to the Champs Elysee, the metro or the Air France bus stop to CDG.

Suite Review

Recently stayed in this Hotel over the new year period. As a treat we took a suite. It was huge with spacious bathroom and separate toilet, hallway leading to huge living area with sofa, 3 tables and numerous tasteful chairs and wide-screen TV. The most beautiful curtained bed in separate room area and walkin wardrobe.
I always rave about the beds in the Sofitels I have stayed in. They are just such a delight to sleep and laze in all morning. The living area also had French style doors opening onto a small balcony overlooking a residential apartment area and street / square. The staff were courteous and helpful. Room service was slightly slow but it was new years eve, and accompanied with a genuine apology for the time taken.
The little extras in the room were extremely nice. The rubber duck in the bathroom / Hermes Eau De Toilette / Complimentary evian and a bottle of wine / Quality bath robes and huge fluffy towels and slippers. I also love the Roger & Gallet toiletries in the bathroom which is kept well stocked. The suites are expensive but worth the extra expense for a special occasion.
The hotel has a good situation in a quite area within easy walk of the Arc de Triumph and just minutes from the Champs Elysees. The nearest Metro station is Charles de Gaulle Etoile and is also within walking distance situated below the Are de Triumph.
Hotels / shops and bars are closely situated also.
I just loved this hotel and will return again and next opportunity.

Great Hotel in great neighborhood

from dntngal
My husband and I stayed in this hotel for three nights while celebrating our anniversary. Knowing the higher end hotels in Paris come at a higher rate, we did our homework when selecting this great spot. It is a real treat - small and intimate, super staff, and a great location.
Our room was tiny and delightful, Roger and Gallet toiletries, a giant duvet and featherbed (we called our bed the Guimauve - the marshmallow it was so decadent and comfortable!). We had great robes, nice towels and slippers. The room service did take awhile to bring us our morning coffee, however we were never in a rush. The lobby provided a selection of french and english newspapers. The bar in the lobby often had a pianist playing for the guests as well.
The only complaint I might have would be the fact that the doors slam all through the night, they are not on hinges that keep them from shutting quickly. Otherwise, it is close to walk to the Champs and easy to get to either the Charles de Galle metro or the George V metro station. Lots of little bistros and cafes close by too.

For Sofitel - OK

from Podtheconsul
I like the Sofitel brand, and utilise their hotels throughout Europe. I assumed this, as one of the flagships, would meet, or even exceed, my expectation. The hotels was good, but I thought, somewhat tired. Excellent quiet location... but insist on seeing a few rooms as they vary in condition.

Loved it!

Went through the hotel website to book ahead of time so saved a ton with the "hot deals" rate. Room was very large and clean. Very friendly people working at the hotel. Excellent housekeeping staff that went above and beyond. Good location (close to metro, Arc de triomphe and Champs d'Elysees). Would definitely return.

Stayed at the sofitel Aug.4-8 2006 in room 516 w/ balcony
The room was very large. We are a family of 4 (Two children) .
great location for nite activities. You are less then a block from the train that takes you everywhere in the city during the day. (Taxi cost about 8 e-purchase the 10 tickets in advance)You can also purchase your louve tickets at the train station. So you do not have to wait in line outside. Avoid Sundays it was very crowded. Breakfast is included in the room price.
The beds were incredible after walking and touring all day.
Hotel was very clean. I had no problem with alarms or service. This was the most accomidating french hotel that we have ever stayed at. It is not the san regis or the four seasons. Is why I rated it accordingly.

For the best sleep of your life

from Jitty
Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights ... brilliant hotel in all respects ... the bed was sooooo comfortable .... and the little touches like a small teddy you find on your bed, the basket of fruit and the general layout of the room , was very sweet. The breakfast was again excellent with a wide variety of food and drink items. Most importantly, the location was brilliant ... literally 2 minutes away from champs ellesyes main road ... it takes time getting used to the streets but once you find a short cut, its great ... do get a 2 day pass as it allows unlimited access, but expect worse tubes than london ... best to travel by taxis after 2 as you see alot of yobs on the road ... also if you are not an earl grey or assam fan, take your own tea bags ... the room has CD facility so take your own music ... did not find french food very appetising but there is always macdonalds to rescue; do sit down at the cafes which are open till 2am, especially the hagen daz place; buddha bar is a must to see ... you have to book in reserve ... there is a man ray bar but nothing special ... drinks are very expensive so do save up ... if going for a weekend trip, dont leave your shopping till sunday as we did ... eiffel tower should only be seen at night ... go around 10 as it takes 2 hours to get to the top and admission closes at 11 ... the tower lights up every hour ... musuems, too many so be selective, the museum of louvre was interesting with mona lisa stuck in her tiny frame ... saw the most beautiful church (based behind the place where napoleon's body rest ... dont remember the name of the church but a must see) ...

Excellent location

My wife and I stayed at this lovely hotel for our wedding anniversary. It was a perfect base for our wekend break, just a couple of mins walk to a number of Metro stations, aswell as the Champs-Elysees and Arc de Triomphe.

We had read a review of the the hotel form this website, and decided to "upgrade" to room 217. Unfortunately, a number of the "mod-cons" weren't working, so this turned out to be a waste of money. We forgot to ask to see a standard room, so were unsure if there was actually any benefit of actually booking this "famous" room. The room though, was very clean and had a separate bath and shower, dressing gowns, slippers, hairdryer and mini bar and numerous other extra's.

The breakfast was excellent, a full selection of cold meats, fruit, cereal, croissants, bacon & eggs etc etc.

In general, I would recommend ths hotel as great place to stay for a great weekend break.

Wonderful in Every Way!

from hpliz
We recently stayed at the Sofitel Arc de Triomphe during a business/pleasure trip to France. It was wonderful! The staff was very gracious ... the room large ... the bed heavenly ... the bathroom brightly lit and spacious. Our room overlooked the residential street. The hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood very close to the Champs Elysee and the beautiful Parc Monceau. Each was less than a five minute walk away. The hotel is very convenient to the metro and to the charming bistros south of the Champs. We would definitely stay here again when we return to Paris.

Great location in the 8th - Lovely Hotel

The hotel provided top-notch service, clean room and a great location. As a first time tourist in Paris, it was key to be so close to the Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysse. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Top Local Tips for Paris

Air France Shuttle If the weather's nice, take the Air France shuttle from CDG to the Arc de Triomphe and walk the 2 blocks to the hotel. It's true, traffic into Paris is pretty bad, and taxis can be expensive. This bus service is better than private shuttles because it only makes one stop, instead of the many stops of other shuttle services. When leaving Paris, you can do the same, or take a taxi. Traffic going to the airport is MUCH less than coming in.

Make an attempt to speak French We found the French people very personable and helpful (despite reports to the contrary). We used our French frequently, and this, I believe, was what made the difference. The good news was that they understood everything we said/requested. The bad news was that they answered us in English. So much for thinking our French accents were great!

Getting around metro, fantastic, cheap easy to use but please please walk to alot of the tourists spots if you are staying in central Paris.Simply pack comfy shoes YOUR LEGS WILL ACHE AND YOUR FEET DIE BUT BELIEVE US ITS WORTH IT AS YOU SEE SO MUCH MORE INSTEAD OF THE BLACK TUNNELS OF THE METRO..FOOD REASONABLY PRICED BUT DRINKS ARE SILLY MONEY £6 - £7 PER PINT AND PER COKE SO START SAVING... AND ENJOY..
