Excellent Hotel
from Jake099All I can say is well worth the money. The hotel is deffinatly at the top end of 3 star, it is away from the busy roads in a nice trendy little area. The hotel is exceptionally clean and modern, with an impressive entrance and lobby area. We were very pleased with the room having an extra day bed aswell as our bed. Our bathroom wasnt too small, but did have a quirky shower head that you had to hold as there wasnt a bracket to place it on?
Breakfast was good, a fairly typical continental. The staff could not have been more polite or helpfull. The latin quarter is a fab area to stay in, being seconds from the metro, and spoilt for choice with restaurants, bars and cafe's. There is a Brasserie 2 doors down from the hotel, that has a really good feel and atmosphere, who's customers seemed mostly students and lecturers from the university, the drinks were reasonably priced, and on one night had a live jazz band playing, nice and relaxing after a long day walking round Paris. Not the cheapest hotel, but well worth it, would recommend to anyone, I am 33 and my partner is 28 we are a gay male couple and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Select a great place in Paris
from travel035Great location, beautiful hotel but not budget
from ClareGaWe had to book a deluxe room as there were no vacant regular rooms available. I don't know what the difference is between the deluxe and the regular rooms as the deluxe looked pretty small to me but the room, in keeping with the hotel, was clean and modern. The bed was really comfortable. The toilet is separate from the bathroom and although very small, this is convenient.
When we booked with the hotel, we weren't told that the hotel was undergoing renovations, which I think the hotel should have done. The elevator was closed and we had to use a service elevator that is the smallest elevator I have ever seen!
However, the location was wonderful, a few minutes walk from the Luxembourg Gardens metro station or the Saint Michel station and in the heart of the Latin Quarter. We took the train (line B) direct from the airport to the hotel. There are so many restaurants to choose from in that area. Be warned, the Italian restaurant next to the hotel is mediocre and if you go off the main roads you will find cheaper and better restaurants. From our window we could watch the students entering the Sorbonne. The hotel is 2 minutes walk from the Luxembourg Gardens and within walking distance of Notre Dame.
A buffet breakfast consisting of breads, toast, pastries, cheese, cereals and tinned fruit was included in the price and was good and filling.
We found the French people very friendly and helpful and they did not live up to their bad reputation.
If you are looking for a nice hotel in a great location, then this is it.
However, if you want something cheaper, there are lots of other hotels nearby. But the Latin Quarter is the place to be.
Nice stay in Paris
from GruntkillerWe had a nice view over place de la sorbonne and both the exterior and interior parts of the hotel were nice and clean.
The hotel has two restaurants next door. One of them was undergoing some refurbishment during our stay and we didn't try the other one although it looked good from the outside.
Breakfast was ok. Close to Notre Dame.
The staff is very polite and service minded.
I recommend this hotel
Best location in town!
from Mme_VasconiRoom: I stayed at the Select with my parents, but I had a singular room and my parents a double. The interior of the rooms is nice, although the bathroom is a bit small. The singular room is perfect, the double room has a small bed on the sixth floor, but my parents changed rooms due to a broken radiator. They got a lovely spacious room on the 4th floor with a kingsize bed. It was easy for them to switch rooms: the staff was very polite and changed the room immediately. Also there is roomservice. The rooms are clean, sheets and towels are changed every night.
Entrance: impressive, beautiful entrance. One can sit at the front, reading magazines, or in the back in the reading corner or the cinema corner. (They have a huge flatscreen).
Breakfast: good for Parisien standard. More that the continential breakfast. You can choose from various kinds of bread, cereal, fruit and drinks and you can take second servings if you like.
Staff is very polite and professional.
Location: best there is! The select hotel is situated at Place de la Sorbonne, next to the entrance to the chapel of the famous Sorbonne University. (On the Bvd. St Michel) The place has some fountains and cafes where you can enjoy a late night drink. The Quartier Latin is at walking distance, as is the Notre Dame. Around the corner you can find the beautiful Jardin du Luxembourg.
Overall an excellent hotel, but not very cheap. The Select has 3 stars, and lives up to that. You get value for your money, but when you are a low- budget traveller, you should try another hotel.
Select the Select!
from UniformgreyPerfect Stay
from FISKESUPPEHotel Select is situated in the city centre, there's a 15 minutes walk to Notre Dame, and less than 5 minutes to the Clunny-Sorbonne Metro and RER station. The hotel is also in a quiet location as very few cars drive through the "place de la Sorbonne". There's also 3 "brasseries" beside the hotel where to eat.
The breakfast was good, enough to wait until lunch time (you can eat all you want). And finally what I can only say against the room is that it is a little small, but after travelling a bit I think it's quite normal in city centre hotels. Nevertheless, big enough to have a very nice and pleasant stay, which in fact is what we had. The bed was big enough and very comfortable. As we had a short stay in Paris and we surely we would like to visit it again, there's a lot of probabilities that we would choose Select Hotel again. Sure.
SHUTTLE SERVICE: I would like to warn travellers to Paris not to book ---. They picked us very late for the transfer to the airport and as they joined two services in one, the shuttle had to go to two different airports. The driving was like a video game race, driving dangerously inside Paris and like a serial killer in the highway (up to 150 Kms per hour), breaking all traffic rules and talking by phone hardly all time while driving like a mad. We felt real fear. They played with our lives. I strongly recommend to book another company or directly the bus shuttle service, but sure not this one (website above). It was dreadful.
Perfect Location!
from A TripAdvisor MemberIt was perfect!
Select is a 3 star rated hotel, but I think it could have been rated 4 stars. Clean, very modern looking hotel with nice details.
The breakfast is served downstairs in a cute little breakfast room. The breakfast is quite good, not only coffe and a croissant.
We found the staff at the reception excellent, always very friendly and happy.
The very best thing though with this hotel I have to say is the location. The area around "La Sorbonne" is lively and pretty, a lot of students of course, but at the same time a peaceful place .. You have the Pantheon not far away and also close to shopping and restaurants etc.
If we go back to this lovely city, we will stay at Select again!!
Nice cozy hotel in splendid region
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe hotel and rooms were quite small (reckon very typical for inner-city Paris hotels) but clean, and the service was polite and very caring, even when we didn't quite speak French..
Although the breakfast was fine continental one, would advise against including it on your package. There wasn't any variety, and you might not want to eat exatcly same things for multiple days.

Perfect Little Boutique Hotel!
from A TripAdvisor MemberFront desk was very friendly and helpful (made reservations for us at local restaurants- try Le Cosi around the corner from the hotel -a fantastic Corsican restaurant). Breakfast was wonderful (great coffee, croissants, rolls, juice) the traditional continental bfast.
All in all, for the money this is a great little hotel in a perfect location. The little courtyard outside had several outdoor cafes where we sat and had wine or a late night drink on our way back to our room.
Top Local Tips for Paris
Brasserie Balzar near Select Hotel Brasserie Balzar on Rue des Ecoles is very near to Select Hotel and a reliable choice. It is open until quite late and the service is wonderful, despite my near non-existent French. A great choice to sample typical brasserie fare!
Some walking can save you lots of bucks Find a true grocery store (we found one about 5 or 6 blocks from the hotel) and buy water and soda there. The cost is a fraction of what you will pay at the cafes and bistros. Get the carte of 10 tickets for the metro and the bus.
learn the metro system.... It is worth learning to go around with the metro system..... you save time and money...!! If you are staying for several days buy the multi-day ticket....
