Charming Hotel Saint Paul

I highly recommend the Hotel Saint Paul Rive Gauche. Nestled in the Latin Quarter, we found the Saint Paul to be near everything. Notre Dame, the River Seine, and the Louvre were mere minutes away, all in walking distance. The Hotel Saint Paul is located off of a maze of shops, restaurants and boutiques. I wouldn’t have wanted to stay anywhere else. The staff was friendly, and spoke excellent English. The hotel itself is charming and full of little surprises in every darkened cranny. The only bad thing was that our room, a standard, had a shower the size of a coffin. Also, we spent many a minutes fumbling with the antiquated skeleton key trying to get in our room. And the last thing was that the concierge forgot to have a shuttle waiting for us once we arrived in Paris. Other than that, we have no complaints.

clean and comfortable but plain

We had a double on the fifth (top) floor of this little hotel. It was quiet and comfortable but very small. The decorating and the view were dull. The bathroom was especially tight and lacking in luxury. Breakfast was pricy, so be sure to check. If it's not included with your room, swing by a neighborhood cafe for your morning croisssants and cafe. Staff was helpful and the hotel's cat -- Sputnik -- a nice little ambassador. I don't know Paris, but I'm willing to bet a sous or two that nicer places can be found.

Cozy and clean

My wife and I just returned from Paris. We stayed at Hotel Saint Paul, and thought it was a nice, clean, and cozy hotel. Nothing special or extravagant. We were in a superior room on the 3rd floor facing the street, and there was very little noise on the weekend. No problem sleeping in very comfortable beds. The best part of this hotel is the location. Short walk to the heart of of the Latin Quarter, and to all metro and RER. This area felt very safe. There are actually very good restaurants within walking distance. We would recommend this hotel.

We would definately stay here again!

My Husband and I stayed here at the beginning and the end of our honeymoon in Europe ins September 2004. This is an older quaint hotel in a great location for walking, shopping and getting to the Metro. The Polidor just a few doors down the street should be on your list of restaurants to visit.
We had 2 different rooms on 2 different sides of the hotel during our visits, and both were very clean and quiet. The room sizes are decent for Europe and we enjoyed breakfast for free each morning as a perk for booking this hotel online with Paris. The breakfast was the european continental and was very pleasant (don't expect the Canadian kind of buffet in Europe). The staff were very accomodating and friendly. As a cat lover, I loved Sputnik and he spent a night with us sleeping at the end of my bed......what a shmoozer. That cat knows how to work people for sure, and he is a gentle sweetheart.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and found it to be a very good value for the price.

Great Hotel,great location

My wife, I and 13 year old daughter stayed here from October 24th to 28th 2004. It's ideally located for metros, shops, cafes and restaurants and was well suited for our purposes. The hotel staff were fine, our room clean with a spotless good sized en-suite. The cat and dog are still on site for all you animal lovers. I went wandering one morning towards Odeon metro, crossed Bvd St Michel (quite the boulevardier) and in no time found myself at the Seine. The Polidor restaurant a few doors away is well worth a visit, serving traditional French cuisine in an authentic bistro atmos. Do take the time to explore the little streets around the hotel. The best recommendation I can give this establishment is that we will certainly return.

Don't even think about booking anywhere else, this is the quaint and charming Parisian hotel in a quiet side street one searches for and I was lucky enough to find. Just returned from a 3-day stay and cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

My room was good-size (for Europe) and had a great Jacuzzi bath which was really welcome after a lot of walking in Paris, comfy bed and lovely soft pillows. All personnel were friendly, polite, always with a smile -- Sputnik (cat) and Hugo (dog) are absolute winners. Very laid-back animals, Sputnik spent two nights in my room! He meowed by the door in the morning when he wanted to go find his breakfast, really sweet.

As mentioned earlier, the hotel is on a quiet side street so no problems sleeping. Two short blocks walk will take you to the Odeon metro stop and Blvd. St. Germain, where there are wonderful cafes, pastry stands and shopping. Pan au chocolate to die for! Being that close to the Metro all of Paris is easily accessible.

Don't know when but I will return to Paris and will definitely stay at Hotel St. Paul. Top marks!

Mom and I loved it

I took my mom on her first ever trip to Paris and we stayed at the St. Paul. It was utterly delightful and charming. The staff were gracious and helpful, the room was just the right size (who stays in the room all day anyway? it's just a place to sleep, right?) and we LOVED the neighborhood. A few blocks and you're in the heart of St. Germain or the university district. My only complaint was that we only got to see Hugo one day.

To the guest who had such a terrible experience, next time -- stay home! Until you adjust your perceptions about traveling, you will never enjoy yourself.

We spent 6 nights at this delightful hotel in July 2004 and found our pretty "superieure" room on the 4e etage with two windows opening on the street side to be bright and comfortable (A.C. when needed), and sufficiently roomy and quiet. A non-smoking room being a HIGH priority for us, we were disappointed to find smoke still lingering in the room when we arrived, but were able to air it out well by opening the windows. Also, no smoke came through the A.C. system during our stay, thankfully. Situated on the border between the Latin Quarter (5e arr.) and St. Germain des Pres (6e arr.), this hotel has a great location with 3 metro stops, the Luxemburg Gardens, a variety of eateries, and the Sorbonne within easy walking distance. Had the breakfast not been included in our room rate, we probably would not have ventured to try it at the list price of 12 euros each. As it turned out, we ended up eating heartily from the buffet selection of fruit juices, cereals, yogurt, fruit cocktail, prunes(!), boiled eggs, ham and cheese slices, tartines, croissants, tea, decaf and cafe au lait each morning and thus were able to do a lot of sightseeing before needing to stop for lunch. Hugo, Sputnik and the hotel staff were all very accommodating. We will definitely stay there again.

Have stayed in Paris many times, and this hotel is a good value for the price. Want to splurge? Hotel Residence des Arts over on Rue Git-le-Coeur is my all-time favorite!

Hotel St.Paul rooms are efficient and comfortable but were hot in early September when I was there. The solution is to open the window, however street noise can bother - - as may the neighbors across the street with their windows open, televisions tuned up loud, and clothing off. Great place to be a voyeux! Breakfast was a little deceptive: if you wanted more than the normal provisions, they're happy to accommodate ... but then won't tell you about having to pay extra for that fried egg until you go to check out. Lesson learned.

With Odeon and Luxembourg Metro stations nearby, all of Paris is at your disposal. Don't expect to be blown away by this hotel, but it is comfortable and friendly and worthy of recommendation.

What a wonderful little hotel! We visited for 10 days in Spring of 2000, and were completely satisfied. Since we were staying for quite a few nights, we asked for a room discount when booking, and they obliged! The breakfast served downstairs was tasty, and the room was full of charm! The location is perfect, just a few blocks from the underground and in a quaint neighborhood. AND you have to pass the crepe cart every night on the way back to the hotel-a nice perk. Apparently Sputnik the cat gets around, because he keeps popping up in these reviews, but he really is a sweetheart! He slept with us every night, waking us up when he smelled breakfast downstairs, and then meowing at the door to get back in after he ate. You know you're "not in Kansas anymore" when you wake up next to the hotel cat! Being a cat lover, I would return to the St. Paul for that reason alone!

Top Local Tips for Paris

Cycle! Use the Velib self service bike rental system - There are bike stations all over the centre of the city and the first 30 minutes of cycling is free. Great way to get around and see the sights.

Rue Moufftard If you do go. Aim for Rue Moufftard which is past the Pantheon and towadrs the right, then follow road down. You will come across a square and then a rod leading to an array of clubs, retaurants, shops and ice cream parlours. This area is truly wonderful and all the retaurants we have been to so far, have provided excellent food and have been happy to talk in English if you desire. Well worth a visit.

inpromtu concerts make your way to the Jardins du Luxembourg in the Latin Quarter on an after noon for impromtu concerts in the band stand. We saw two choirs and a brass band over several days. Not only that but it's a fantastic place for people watching and learning about Parisien life.
