Good value, charm and location.

If you are expecting a four or five star experience at this price, you will be disappointed. This is a budget hotel, not the Ritz or the Plaza Athenee. However, this is a clean, charming hotel in a great location where you will receive good value for your money, especially in expensive Paris. My partner and I stayed here in May 2004. We had one of the superior rooms with a double and a twin bed on the streetside of the hotel. It was cool and rainy during our visit, and since we did not leave the double glazed window open at night, we were not bothered by any street noise. The bathroom was small, which has been the case with just about every small european hotel I have ever stayed in, but it was very clean and efficient. The room was moderate in size, with architectural detail on the high ceiling. Every staff person we encountered was pleasant and helpful, and did not seem to mind my bad French. Try the good Vietnamese restaurant next door, and attend one of the concerts at the church around the corner if you get the chance.

Good location, nice lobby and breakfast room, stayed in room #3, 2 twins pushed together to make a double bed and 1 twin bed, room was clean and updated. Bathroom was tiled, and the toilet had a leak. Shower was the smallest I have ever seen, no room to turn around. I think our mattress needed to be changed, it was a bit saggy and lumpy. To me a good shower, and a good night sleep is more important than location and a nice lobby, Im not so sure this hotel deserves the rave reviews I have seen it given.

Stayed at the Hotel St. Jacques for five nights. Staff was friendly and courteous. For the price, the location cannot be beat. Very pleasant stay. Would absolutely return to this hotel and recommend it to others.

stayed at hotel the week of feb 21, 2004. my wife and i had a great stay. the hotel personel are great espesially brigit (she speaks excellent english). the rooms are small compared to us rooms but clean. the location can not be beat. will go back in a heartbeat.

We only stayed one night since we were meeting up with a group the next night, but the Hotel St-Jacques is one of the best bargains in Paris! All of the interiors (hallways, staircase, and rooms) have beautiful faux finishes throughout, and they have gotten smart and put motion sensor light switches in the hallways, so there's no fumbling for the switch. A minor touch, but it's the 1st time I've ever seen it done in Paris.
If you can, get room #25, which is on the NW corner of the 5th floor, and has views of the towers of Notre Dame to the north, and the dome of the Pantheon to the south. This room also has what is technically a balcony, although it's only 18" wide, so don't plan on taking your coffee there.
The bathroom is extremely tiny, but like the rest of the hotel, clean as a whistle. I will not hesitate to stay there again!

We stay at Hotel St. Jacques about 3 years ago and loved it. We are planning another trip to Paris and want to stay there again. Great Location, walking distance to everything!!!

I stayed with friend for 4 nights at this hotel in June 2004. The hotel was wonderful. The location is excellent--it is very close to Notre Dame cathedral, a metro station, and many wonderful restaurants. The area could be a little noisy at night because of the restaurants, but that almost made it feel safer.
The hotel staff was pleasant and friendly. They spoke perfect English, and were helpful whenever we asked questions. The room we stayed in was very clean and wonderfully decorated. It looked like new. The bathroom was also very clean and they gave us plenty of towels.
Breakfast was not included in the price of the hotel, but they did have a breakfast room where reasonably priced food was served. A bakery was also nearby, and for most of the mornings we just ended up going there.

We stayed in this charming hotel in May 2004 for seven nights. After a long process of researching hotels, I stumbled across their website. I e-mailed them for availability and Brigitte promptly responded. Even though I don't speak French, Brigitte made me feel comfortable and confident that my reservation would be honored.
Upon arriving, the small room, decorated in bright reds and golds, was refreshingly clean and overlooked a bustling, yet relatively quiet street. We opened the balcony doors every morning when we woke up to watch Parisians hurriedly walk to work with baguettes under their arms. The bathroom was spotless. Our bath tub had a shower head that you could hold over your head, and was a great asset when soaking our feet after a long day of sightseeing.
The people at the front desk were exceptionally nice and helpful. They were very patient with our lack of knowledge about the city and the language, and they were always there when you had a question. They are also willing to show you places on a St. Jacques map, if you have any quandaries.
For our first time in Paris, St. Jacques was a great choice. Being in the Latin Quarter, it is in close walking distance to great bars, cafes and wonderful markets for a snack, a metro and RER station, as well as the Pantheon, Notre Dame and Saint Sulpice. We would do it again in a heartbeat.

For the price, there is not a better option. The staff was very friendly. The location is unbeatable. There is a wonderful market a block away, great options for dining and easy access to any place in Paris.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel St. Jacques during the last week in March, and it was great. We were on the top floor, which requires a walk up a flight of stairs, but the rooms were adorable with a small balcony. They even have built in hairdryers! Friendly staff who speak English. When we were leaving they were bringing in new, quaint furniture. The location is excellent (near Notre Dame and the Sorbonne), 1 block from a Metro station. We would definitely stay there again.
Top Local Tips for Paris
Teen Paradise Shopping at the Galeries Lafayette in Paris was so exciting! Our hotel concierge recommended it and it was simply wonderful- designer bags, shoes, perfumes, beautiful lingerie, everything! If you have a teenager that loves fine things, don't miss this experience!
Getting around.... Get the Orange weekly pass card if you are going to use the subway- it will save you a fortune. While you are doing that, also get the city Museum Pass, which does the same!
Make reservations ahead of time Get Zagat Paris reviews to help with dining decisions--there is an overwhelming amount of dining options in Paris and this book really helped. Making reservations ahead of time is a must for the higher rated places as we saw a lot of people turned away from seemingly empty restaurants at 8PM, only to see the place fully fill up by 8:30PM with lucky people with reservations.
