Charming, but cramped

This hotel's main attaction is its ocation. Louvre and Notre Dame are literally a 5 minute walk away. Inside, the building is tastefully furnished, and some thought clearly went into the decoration, which is stylish and consistent (and undoubtedly very different from the décor it offered when Ginsberg, Burroughs and the likes stayed here in the sixties). The exposed beams in the rooms betray the building's age and are a charming touch. However, the twin, 'Deluxe' room in which we stayed was excessively small. 2,5 x 2,5 metres at the most. There was barely room to move around the beds, and these themselves seemed primarily chosen because they fit inside the room rather than for any sleeping comfort they might offer. If you are over, say, 1m75, don't expect comfortable nights! The shower was also small, but redeemed by a spectacular showerhead featuring lateral beams. The complimentary bathrobes were another nice touch, though rather superfluous in a place where your only option is to hop straight into bed.
The elevator was similarly tiny: put in your two middle sized suitcases and you will have to take the stairs yourself.
If you can contend with a less central location, an anonymously bland hotel like the Meridien Montparnasse will offer you a room four times this size, plus a spectacular buffet breakfast, (and, if you're lucky, a spectacular view) at the same price. For spacious four star lodgings in downtown Paris, you will however need to spend yet more than the prices charged by this not exactly cheap establishment.

Quick Entry into Louvre The long lines at the Louvre are caused (generally) by backpacks etc having to be placed through the x-ray machines. If you are planning a trip to the Louvre and can keep backpacks etc at the hotel then you get to go to the front of the line and miss the security line altogether.
