Top Local Tips for Paris
Use the bus! We found using buses in Paris much less tiring than the Metro - no stairs or out of commision escalators to negotiate. You also get to see much more and as buses have route maps with each stop having a name it's very easy to find your way around. Get a Mobilis ticket and you can jump on and off as often as you like.
Getting to the hotel from CDG airport To get to this hotel we took the train from CDG airport terminal 2 to Notre Dame and then changed there for Javel, you could also travel to the Eiffel Tower stop but we preferred Javel. It took about an hour and a half all in all and cost around 81/2 euros each one way.
Versailles. Travel to Versailles on the train. The ticket was relatively cheap and it only took 30mins approx to get there. I think it was the yellow line 5 of the RER. We used Bir Hakeim station near the eiffel tower. It was a 5 min walk from Versaille Rive Gauche station to the palace. We bought our tickets there right on opening time. We beat all the tour groups and had the place to ourselves. We stayed in the hall of mirrors for ten minutes all alone. Got great photos. We saved a fortune by not going on a tour. Did it all ourselves and had a great time.
