Historical Traveller Reviews of Odeon Hotel

Pricey but worth it

from fruitcase
Took two executives rooms side by side for a family of two adults and two teenagers despite some misgivings over the high prices (280 euros per room excluding breakfast). However, was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the rooms (recently decorated) which were quite large with compact but perfectly servicable bathrooms (although It would have been nice to have a shower attachment that could fix on the wall).

Breakfast is another 14 euros which seems a lot but is more convenient than going out to a cafe. Breakfast tables are too small and not designed with the (large) crockery in mind.

We did get a peek of some other rooms and we were glad to have paid the extra for an executive room as some seemed to be absolutely tiny. Beware!

Location is great: plenty of nice restaurants (recommend Machon d'Henri in Rue Guissarde and a good Italian pizza place just a bit further along). Metro is close by and the whole area is safe and luxurious.

Staff were friendly and welcoming and Paris can't be beat, so no complaints

Ok if you like staying in a cave

Spent three nights here and will never go back.
(Double check the name and location as there are many hotels with similar names.)

The staff was friendly.
The location is fabulous-round the corner from great shops and within easy walking distance of taxis, metro, etc.
The hotel is quiet--the only noise I heard was water in pipes when I was in the lobby area.
The beds were comfortable and the sheets felt very nice.

The first room (#15) was an attic suite with low beams, tiny windows and dark walls. Dark and Claustrophobic! Pocket door to tiny bathroom would not stay closed and had no latch. Bath opened directly into both rooms and outside entrance so that there was absolutley no privacy. Impossible. When first complained we got no response. When we told them we were checking out after one night they then moved us.
The second room (#32) was much better but it still felt very close (no window in the bedroom, only in the adjoining room). Although "free internet" was listed on hotel information it did not work in our first room and the information sheet in the rooms said we had to buy an internet access card. When we complained they gave a card to us for free but that did not work either. Internet only worked in the second room after they gave us a cable.
Lighting in both rooms was "terrible" to "ok."

We paid ~200E but found other rooms around the corner for less and much nicer. We almost left but did not want to spend our entire Friday moving around.

Breakfast was not very good--coffee, yogurt, cereal, bread, 1 cheese, juice. I thought it came with the room but we were charged extra. I wish I had just gone around the corner to one of the cafes.

Overpriced, not worth it.

The Hotel L'Odeon is in a great location, but overpriced compared to some other choices in the area, and I had some problems with my stay.
My parents and I stayed in a "junior suite" which was really one room
with a twin-sized bed rolled into it. The bathroom was nice, had clearly been renovated, but it also had problems (the ceiling leaked!). Furthermore, the ethernet connection in our room was not working, the wifi was expensive (5euros/45 mins), and some of the staff were not very friendly or helpful. I moved across the street to
the Hotel Louis II, which was an overall better stay (two bright double rooms at 130euros each, which cost less than the 288 euros I was paying for the junior suite at the hotel l'odeon, with free wifi and breakfast included, and great, great staff). I definitely would not stay at the hotel l'odeon again, nor would I recommend it to anyone going to Paris.

wonderful place

We stayed here the beginning of April. Some work is still going on in
the lobby, but the desk staff and all were very helpful. I was traveling alone with a 4 and 5 yo. The staff were very kind and offered any help that was asked both before we arrived via email and while we were there. We stayed in the new suite on the top floor. Lots of steps but very quiet and a LARGE BATHROOM with a haman (steam style) shower that is 3 feet x 4 feet with a rain showerhead and a hand held! It's watertight and won't get water on the floor. My kids were in there for about an hour. I think it may be the longest shower in the history of Paris! There is also a separate bathtub.

They brought breakfast to the room in the morning very quickly after I called. The bed was very comfortable and everything was clean. Quiet street, easy metro, great stores nearby, restaurants, market street is two-three blocks. I would stay here again as soon as possible! It was our hideaway after busy days.

This hotel is small, quiet, pristine, friendly and very French. The location is perfect, within easy walking distance of all the wonderful sites of Paris. A stroll down Rue de Seine, at the corner of Rue St. Sulpice takes you past many art galleries and elegant little shops and cafes. We were especially impressed by the comfortable beds and quality linens, attention to detail, and the friendliness of the staff. The flat screen TV with two channels in English, added a nice touch. L'Odeon is definitely one we will recommend and will return to on our next visit to Paris.

An excellent small hotel - very pretty and brilliantly located- just off the Boulevard St German. Staff very pleasant and plenty of eateries very close. We had a double with 4 poster at back of hotel. Room quiet and no problems. If travelling from CdG catch the RER to Luxembourg and walk from there - less than 10 minutes and the express RER's stop at Luxembourg. Easy walking to Notre Dame, Louvre, Musee D'Orsay - a must see gallery - less daunting than the Louvre and great if you like the impressionists.

Fantastic little find!!

from Miranda78
My boyfriend and i have just come back from a three night stay at Hotel De L'Odeon. It was a great trip and the hotel was absolutely perfect; lovely, clean bedroom - quiet and a really comfortable bed! The hotel staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We were able to leave our baggage with them after checking out and they were really helpful in suggesting things to see and places to eat. This hotel is situated in a great area if you are keen to be in midst of true Parisian life; great little bars with fab little terraces and heaters (!) and alsorts of delicious restaurants. The metro is a 100 metre walk from the hotel and it's a really easy metro ride out from Charles de Gaulle airport. From the hotel you are within walking distance of many of the major attractions, including the Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, Jardin de Luxembourg and plenty more. I would totally recommend a stay at this hotel, I will definitely be going back - am so pleased to have found it!

Excellent in every way

from SarahHenley
L'Odeon is a great little hotel. Each room is distinctively and tastefully done out in traditional French style and the lounge area and entrance make one feel you've arrived at a 4 or 5 star.

We walked in from the street having left our pre-booked hotel under a cloud and were given a front room on the 3rd floor at a discounted price. We were very lucky - the room had 2 four poster beds, a pleasant view out onto the street, and was good sized. My only complaint was that the staff didn't seem to know whether the room TVs were satellite or not, and how to access the satellite channels if they weren't. Otherwise, everything was little short of perfect. Marble bathrooms, friendly night and day reception staff who were willing to advise on tickets/sightseeing and a generally low-key, welcoming atmosphere. I can imagine that some of the rooms at the back of the hotel might be a bit dark and cramped - but it's Paris after all. All rooms are small.

Last word about the location - it's perfect if you want to be slightly away from the beaten tourist track, but still within easy distance of them all. Notre Dame is 10-13 mins walk away and there's a great restaurant/bar/cafe area just north of the hotel - cross the Boulevard St Germain as if walking towards the Notre Dame and you'll hit little narrow streets full of great delis, pavement cafes and eateries. You're also next door to some posh shops around the St Sulpice Square and a few moments' walk from Cafe Flore and Deux Magots too. The Luxembourg Gardens and Pantheon and the Louvre are all within 15-20 minutes walk too.

Pay a little extra for a front-facing room and I don't think you can go wrong - a really sweet, welcoming, very comfortable, authentic and fabulously located hotel!

A friendly, safe, clean hotel

from baozao
There have been some mixed reviews about this hotel. If you are looking for somewhere that is a contemporary 4 star plus with all the trimmings then you will probably be disappointed. If however you are looking for a decent 3 star you should be satisfied. It's true that our room was very small with not much natural daylight but combined with the antique style decor it did inbue a rather romantic and autumnal atmosphere! Some areas in the hotel look slightly tired but not a problem given that everything is lovely and clean. We enjoyed the continental breakfast which was ample and the hotel is located in a very convenient and pretty area. Loads of cafes and boutiques near by and an easy and pleasant walk to Notre Dam, St Chappelle and the Louvre. We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful. I pressume this is the standard but I admit that our endeavours to use our minimal French language skills may have made a difference. Unlike a lot of hotels there wasn't a mini sewing kit in the room. Trust me to get a hole in my jeans then! However it wasn't a problem. When I asked the reception for a needle and thread they happily supplied me with a travel sewing kit to keep.

I would have no qualms about returning to the Hotel De' Odeon.

Gem of a Hotel; Amazing Location

from Macaron06
First, thank you to all the Tripadvisor members who took the time to comment on your experiences of this hotel (and others). Your feedback was an important factor in our decision to stay at Hotel de L'Odeon. Thankfully, we were not disappointed!

We spent 5 amazing days in Paris just last month and the hotel and its location played a huge part in making it the memorable trip that it was.

The hotel is charming, clean, well decorated and overall, excellent value for money. The hotel staff were always courteous and polite. The room was larger than I had expected (a pleasant surprise given that I had been expecting a very tiny room based on what people had told me about hotels in the Latin Quarter), very comfortable and clean; and the double-glazing was a god-send given the traffic and other street noises everyday except Sunday.

With regards to the location: in a word, fantastic! The metro is a two minute walk, there are tons of terrific cafes, restaurants and shops at every turn; and you are generally a 15 - 20 minute walk or metro ride from the key attractions, although we were certainly spoilt for choice with things to see and do within the immediate vicinity of the hotel itself.

I would recommend the L'Odeon in a split second....although at the same time, a part of me wants to keep it a well guarded secret!

Top Local Tips for Paris

Somewhere for wonderful hot chocolate and coffee If you stay at Hotel de L'Odeon then you should try and go to les Editeurs for breakfast - the hot chocolate is amazing and it's got a great atmosphere - it's just 20 yards out of the Hotel. Turn right then first left at the end of the road... yum yum!!

Metro passes I brought pictures of the metro passes I wanted to purchase printed from the scnf(?) website.

Metro tickets You can buy a three day metro pass called Paris Visite from the French Railway office in Picadilly before you go
