A spartan high rise

I stay at the Novotel as an airline crewmember. The Novotel Eiffel Tower is a high rise hotel of about 25 floors near the statue of liberty monument on the Seine river. The rooms are spartan with tiny bathrooms. Unfortunately the air conditioning units do not put out much air flow and the rooms get hot and stuffy. However, the rooms are clean, the staff helpful and friendly. There is no charm about this high rise but its in a safe area and if you can work a deal on a rate, then stay there!

Good Deal in Paris

from A TripAdvisor Member
Like many other reviewers, we got the Priceline deal & paid about $100. The rooms are small, but clean. If IKEA was to own a hotel, this is it. The proximity to the Eiffel is good, the fact the hotel fronts the River is better. For tourist attractions & restaurants, it's not very convenient. Good deal, but I would try my luck someplace else next time.

Mixed and worth complaining

from A TripAdvisor Member
Having paid 70 GBP via Priceline which is exceedingly favourable compared to a rack rate of 250 euros, I was more than disappointed with the first dingy room I was given. In dire need of redecoration, the bathroom was tiny and there were no tea or coffee making facilities. As there was a distinct lack of cleaning in the bathroom I voiced a complaint which got us moved to a redecorated room on the 29th floor complete with kettle, bigger bathroom and heaps more space. Warning - do not eat or drink in La Bar Seine which has hugely inflated prices. Nice location with plenty of unspoilt bistros in the surrounding area.

t like it

I spent 4 nights at the Novotel in October 2004 and was really dissapointed. Biggest problem is that the room was tiny, and I really didn't like the location of the hotel at all -- not convenient or pretty. I, like several other reviewers, also used Priceline and paid $125 for what is normally a $310 room. I NEVER would pay full price for that hotel. The consierge was unfriendly and when I asked for an iron I had to pay a deposit and return it each day. And, the hotel didn't even have an ironing board. I would not stay at the Novotel again.

Very nice hotel - small rooms

from Coluche105
I paid $100 with Priceline and was very satisfied. Rooms are small but clean, beautiful view of the Seine from the 25th floor. Staff was very nice and helpful. Pool and fitness looked nice although I didn't use them. Breakfast was delicious. Very few TV channels but who watches TV?.? Where else can you get this price and quality?! A bit out of the center but nice and quiet... Would return :-)

Good Value for Paris

We paid $122 for two nights on priceline for this hotel. It is somewhat on the outskirts of the tourist attractions, but rather close to the Effiel Tower (appx. 15 min. walk). It is really more of a 3 1/2 star hotel, I don't think its necessarily a four. The lobby is nice, but the rooms were somewhat old. I think someone else described it accurately- like a Days Inn or Best Western quality. Our tv did not work, but the repair man came up immediately to fix it. Rooms were clean, pillows a little too soft. One thing to note-- we stayed here in late Sept, which was quite cool. The ventilation/air conditioning barely worked. I would think twice if you wish to stay here in the summer, the windows don't open and there isn't much air flow from the heating/cooling. Concierge was available to help and front desk staff was pleasant. There are a few cafes between the Effiel Tower and the hotel, along with some small shops. Overall, for the money a good hotel.

My best ever Priceline experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed here for a weekend September 2004 via Priceline, bidding $109/nite. Although the location tends toward the tourist outskirts, it is still an easy walk to the Eiffel Tower and metro. Hotel is well up to international-style, 4-star, hi-rise standards. Room was clean, functional and stylishly minimalist, staff was friendly -- never did I feel like a second-class Priceliner. Room service a bit pricey but super-efficient. We had an infant in tow, and they couldn't have been more accommodating, supplying a nice porta-crib with full linen. Views are fab. You can certainly find more central and more characterful hotels in Paris, but I doubt you can come anywhere close to this quality at this price.

great hotel for priceline value

from A TripAdvisor Member
We bid through priceline and paid 1/3 of the full price of the overpriced standard room rate. It was a great value and a really nice hotel overall. The standard rooms are modern, clean with a a great view and the location is fine and close enough to the metro and eiffel tower. The lobby is fancy, pool small but nice and concierge incredibly helpful. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel but would never pay the offered standard rate. if you bid about $100 bucks or so on priceline, you will likely get this hotel to accept your bid. The going rate for a standard room was over $350 when were there in mid-Sept.

Nice stay

I booked this hotel through Priceline and it was better than I expected for the price I paid. I am not sure how slow others walk, but we walked to the metro and Eiffel Tower in under 10 min at a leisurely pace. In addition, if you walk in the neighborhoods surrounding this hotel you find wonderful bakeries and local shops. There is also a larger grocery store near by to pick up fruit and snacks. The concierge staff was excellent at this hotel. Room was clean

Pleased with the Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed Aug 19 to 22nd 2004. After reading the reviews on this site, it got me a little worried about what kind of place we'd be staying at. But once we arrived there we were really pleased with the service we received, as well as the room itself. We got a beautiful River view which was just gorgeous at night. The room was cleaned to a high standard every day and the staff were always very friendly and helpful when required. The location of the hotel itself was fine - a 10 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower and surrounded by 2 metro stops. I'd rate this hotel as excellent. We were located on the 31st floor and had to take the steps from the 30th to 31st - it wasnt a problem cos our bags were light... Id recommend you ask for help if you have too many bags! Also, we booked through Priceline as well and did not feel that we were treated any differently from any of the other guests.

Not worth it!

from amy221
Terrible! I booked through Priceline and got it for $90 a night which is good for Paris, but there were so many negatives that I should have spent more and it would have saved me more because being a woman alone I had to take a taxi at night, and also a taxi to the airport (or to the air france bus which was 11 euros just to get to the bus)
I was treated like a 2nd class citizen (I suppose since I was with Priceline) I was given a room on the 31st floor- and I had only the option of stairs from floor 30 to 31! I had very heavy bags and they could have at least told me before I got up there.
The room was very hot even with the air on full blast.
I only got one French channel on the tv and when I called reception they said yes that's normal (I asked in French and English so there was not a communication gap!)...However- when I asked the concierge later, they had someone fix it right away so I could get all the channels (cnn etc).
In fact the conceirge was the only good point- they were very pleasant and helpful. Also Rooms are decent and the bath is decent, but not exceptional.
The most negative is the poor location it feels very removed from Paris, although it is a nice area it's far by Paris standards from the metro and feels very residential.
I would not pay to stay there again at any price! It was too inconvienient and the service generally poor.

Top Local Tips for Paris

Buying tickets at the Louvre When you get inside the Louvre everyone is waiting in line to buy the tickets yet on the sides of the ticket booths are credit card machies that look like ATM's but are actually where you can buy tickets via a credit card! This allowed us to get tickets in 5 minutes vs. 15-20minutes!

Traveling with kids I know this sounds crazy, but head for the pet shops with the kids. You'll make them nutty by only going to museums. They won't remember the 347th painting they've seen, but they'll be sure to remember seeing the hand raised birds, chipmunks, chickens, dogs, cats, aquariums, etc. There's a strip of one shop after the other along the quai Megisserie. Also, the flower market combines with a bird market on Sunday, and the kid'll love this too. I'd recommend "Paris with the kids." It was right on the money with their tips. One thing though, at the Sacre Couer, the funnicular train is broken, so unless you want to walk (and walk and walk and walk) up all of those steps, get off one metro stop prior (Anvers), take the lift up to the street level, and you'll be quite close. Also, the kid'll love Deyrolles, a taxidermy shop from the late 1800's. Check out their website too.
