Loved the atmosphere
from A TripAdvisor MemberExcellent location near Invalides, Tower, Rue Cler for market shopping.
I'd go back. Affordable. CNN British television also so you can keep abreast of news. Spent 5 days here March 13-17 2004. Loved it!!!

from A TripAdvisor MemberRue Clare with its fruit stands, bakeries, and bistros is steps away.
The rooms are small but excellent. The Metro is a couple blocks.
Great hotel, great price
from A TripAdvisor MemberIt was on a very quiet street, but close to the metro and a nice walk to the Eiffel Tower. The staff was very helpful. The room was small but very nice and the air conditioning worked well!
Great Stay!
from CanadianRamblerOur room on the 5th floor opened onto a quiet streeet, had a small balcony with a great view of the Eiffel Tower, and was huge - It was a "triple", so had a queen sized bed and a separate chamber for a single bed, which gave us lots of room to spread out our luggage. The bathroom was also large, with modern appliances. The whole place was spotless throughout our stay. I would highly recommend spending the extra 15 euro and getting the triple versus the double.
The staff were friendly, helpful and spoke quite good english - better than my broken French that's for sure. However, we are independent travellers and don't ask a lot of hotel staff, so our experience with them was limited. That caveat being said, I am confident that most of the staff would be able to help in most, if not all situations, even if the visitor knew no French. I don't agree at all with the other review that says they speak poor english, but even if our experience was exceptional, why someone would expect english to be spoken in a country where French is the official language is a little puzzling.
The courtyard where you take breakfast is absolutely beautiful, and the breakfast itself has a wide selection and is a pretty good value at 7.50 euro. We tried breakfast in the neighborhood one morning and there are few options, which both cost more and give you less.
The neighborhood itself is great. The hotel is a 10 - 15 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower, a 5-10 minute walk from Les Invalides/Napoleon's Tomb and Ecole Militaire, and is within a 5 minute walk of 2 different Metro Stops. The area also sports a number of cafes, including a great little crepe stand on Rue Cler. Eating a crepe while strolling toward the Eiffel Tower is a great way to introduce yourself to Paris.
All in all, the Muguet was a great hotel and a great value, and we will definitely stay here again when we return to Paris.
Very good for a quick trip
from A TripAdvisor MemberI booked by email direct with the hotel, and asked several questions before finalizing. Each email was answered promptly.
Our room was on the ground floor and quite large, with a double bed, desk, and good bathroom with shower and hair dryer. Shampoo and soap were provided; bring your own shower cap and conditioner. Clothes space was small. The room was by a flower bed near the breakfast area. Our 13 year-old had a narrow, short foam bed on the floor, which surprised us.
It wouldn't suit a larger person.
Unlike most of Paris, it was air conditioned! We hit the hottest weather on record - 101F (40C). Phew.
The location is quiet, safe and convenient - walk to the Invalides one way, Eiffel Tower the other. There are busy streets nearby with subway (Ecole Militaire), supermarkets, restaurants, and shops. For dinner, try picnicking by the Eiffel Tower (the park is busy, policed, and well-lit.)
Breakfast is not free, so we ate elsewhere.
Top Local Tips for Paris
Beware of the bathroom It was a big adjustment -- very often France has unisex bathrooms, no toilet lid for women to sit on and only some have sinks to wash your hands afterwards! Bring your own water-free sanitizer!
Skip the top of Eiffel, use the top of the bus! The Open Tour bus is the best way to see Paris in a short time. They have 4 different routes and you can hop on or hop off as you wish when they stop (they stop at the major attractions). This allowed us to see the most important parts of the city and get a "feel" for the area before narrowing down what we wanted to see (we were only there for a long weekend). The shuffling a people through long lines and several lifts at the Eiffel tower was a disappointment. You had to wait in line for a ticket, then wait in line for a lift for the 1st level. After the first level, you wait in another line for a lift to the top (which is small and crowded) and then you wait in line twice more for the lifts to the bottom. Each wait is about 15 minutes. In my opinion, not worth it.
Metro Don't be scared of the metro. It comes in very handy and saves time and painful feet.
