Bed Bugs

We stayed at Hotel Minerve for three days. Although it was in a great location, it was to my horror on our last day that we discovered our beds were full of bed bugs. Even when we were checking out, I pulled out a folder out of one of my bags and found a bug crawling on it. Beware!!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Minerve for 4 days last week. The hotel was in a good location within walking distance of Notre Dame, the Louvre, etc. The hotel was very nicely decorated and charming. Our only complaint was with the bathroom and the noise. We were on the 4th floor, in a room facing Rue des Ecoles. It was clean and remodeled, but the shower was extremely small. I'm a small person, but had trouble shaving my legs in the shower, and also the lever that pulls out to turn the water on was such that, every time you moved to pick up a shampoo bottle, or something, you hit it and the water shut off. Also, the hairdryer was inadequate. I have long hair that takes awhile to dry. The hairdryer would only run for 30 second intervals and required about 5 minutes recovery time in between, so it took a long time to dry my hair! Also, the street is very noisy so we couldn't keep the windows open. Other than those things, I would recommend the hotel.

Great Location, Great Staff

The location was superb. In the heart of the Latin Quarter with great dining spots, pastry shops. and a subway all within 2 blocks. Notre Dame was an easy ten minute walk.
Though the rooms were small with thin walls, they were comfortable, very clean and nicely appointed. The staff was excellent - very friendly and helpful. A great value.

I went to Paris for a short break, not having booked a hotel, just walked into this hotel and I got a room on the spot. The staff were so helpful.

As on a budget I wanted the cheaper single room with which had no balcony but because they had no cheaper rooms vacant the first night at check-in they gave me a more expensive room (with balcony) at the cheaper price. The next morning I was told I could stay in that room for my whole stay at the cheaper price.

The location is great, I strolled to the Notre Dame late at night(safe location) and went for a rather late night cap every night too. There are also two Metro stops nearby. Jussieu is one of them (on line-7 the pink line).

My partner and I spent a lovely 3 day city break in Paris at the Minerve Hotel. I initially tried to book at the Familie Hotel next door, but, not surprisingly, as it was only three days before we were due to arrive it was fully booked. We were referred to the Minerve.
When we checked into our room, it was spacious and had a nice bathroom, but was on the back of the hotel with no view. We decided it was worth asking if there were any rooms available on the front and luckily were able to change to 504; a smaller room but with a balcony - chairs and tables and geraniums and all! In winter we would have been able to see Notre Dame but at this time of year it was obscured by a large tree. The room had airconditioning if we had needed it and was decorated in a cosy unique style.
The location is perfect - 10 mintues walk to Notre Dame or 5 minutes to the metro. There are lots of nice eating places in the vicinity. We avoided the hotel breakfast, preferring to have coffee and pastries at the boulangerie directly across the road.
We were in Paris for July 14 Bastille Day, a public holiday. We watched the parade in the morning, went to the Louve Museum for free in the afternoon, and sat in the park at the Eiffel Tower to eat a picnic and watch the fireworks at night. A perfectly romantic day.

A wonderful trip and I can highly reccommend this hotel. I booked 3 days in advance and for a double it was €112 per night. The management were helpful and friendly.

My husband and I stayed here and we enjoyed it very much. Small rooms, but clean and comfortable. We stayed 2 separate times as we travelled through France. The staff was very helpful and friendly to American tourists. Excellent location to sights and Metro.

Great Hotel

This hotel is in a great area in a great city. The staff were helpful and polite. The room was small (but we expected that) but big enough to walk around our suitcases. Everything in the room worked well.

I stayed at the Minerve for four nights in April 2004. The staff and front desk personnel were pleasant. Everything was clean and the decor was pleasant. But after reading the reviews here, I was expecting something more special. My room was miniscule and my friends' "superior" room was not much bigger and had no view whatsoever. I found the location to be a little out of the way. The breakfast was ho-hum - mediocre croissants (an important detail for me... I do look forward to a buttery croissant with my coffee). I go to Paris quite often and have stayed in other hotels in the price range that I like better, but the Minerve is okay.

Stayed her a few weeks ago and had a great(albeit small) room with a balcony which had a table and two chairs along with a plant on it. The room gave us a great view of Rue des Ecoles which was not that noisy.
We did not eat breakfast at the hotel since there was a great cafe across the street which cost considerably less for the same thing. The location is excellent with a Metro stop nearby and the major sites(Notre Dame, Louvre) only a ten to twenty minute walk. We walked six to eight miles a day which is something we never do at home. The staff was great and willing to help whenever needed. Great value for the money!

Great hotel

Having read the previous review, I had to post. If there was any problem with the front desk staff in March, it had been resolved by early April. We had a fantastic stay and loved our front room with balcony. The front desk staff was superb. They called to confirm our dinner reservations each day and helped with directions and amenities.
Will stay there when we return.

Top Local Tips for Paris

RER in rush hour If you intend to use the RER to travel to the airport around the Paris rush hours, especially the evening, give yourself extra time. Some trains can be full to bursting and you may want to let one go and get the next.

Check out a Fat Tire Bike Tour! I did the Versailles Bike Tour and really enjoyed it! The tour was as much about the journey as the attraction. It was a great way to see Paris and the town of Versailles in a different way. If you are looking for a Versailles tour that really goes in depth, this probably isn't the tour for you.

The tour starts at the Eiffel Tower and you ride bikes around the city, seeing all the important stops. Our tour guide was really great and so much fun. It is a perfect tour for when you arrive initially - to give you a good idea of the city. I highly recommend it!
