The Hotel Merryl is one hotel to be avoided!!! The rooms are old and poorly furnished with a not so pleasant smell, possibly sewerage. The staff are incredibly rude and unhelpful. I can't believe we paid to stay there - any money is too much for a night here!!! And unfortunately we had to stay more than one night as the rugby is in town and anywhere else we tried was fully booked up. On the first night of our stay, we were in a smelly room that was split-level - the toilet was on the lower floor with an unsafe spiral stair case leading to a bedroom in the attic of the hotel. When we asked to be changed, the night porter was unhelpful and rude and we ended up having to stay in that room and only got moved the next day. The room we were moved to wasn't any better but at least it wasn't split-level.

The worst place I have been up to now. The room smelt horrible and the bathroom has so much damp in the ceiling that I couldn't sleep properly. Never again!

Smells of Urine and Foul Conditions

This is the worst hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. Normally I don't write a review but this place was so bad I was compelled to as I would not wish anybody else to get ripped off. It is expensive for what you get. I paid 85 Euro per night. I had booked the hotel for 2 nights but decided to cancel as the conditions were so appalling. However we had to stay for the first night. It is not fit for humans and is sub-standard. The receptionist was rude and unhelpful. She was insisting we should pay for the two nights it was booked. The room we were assigned had a foul stench. Our room was situated next to the water tank and awoke me in the night. The carpet and the walls were filthy and smelt of stale urine. The stay here was a truly gut wrenching experience. I had booked the hotel for 2 nights but decided to cancel as the conditions were so appalling. I also felt very regretful that my wife and child were exposed to this vile establishment. I had to endure the inconvience of having to book another hotel but this was preferable to another night here. This hotel nearly ruined an otherwise excellent holiday. I also stayed at the excellent Holiday Inn at Disneyland and Place de Republique. These may be pricey but were worth every penny. TIP: I booked Disneyland at 80 Euro per night through a promotion and it was exceptional value for money.

This hotel is the worst I have ever stayed in. My girlfriend and I are still trying to get to the bottom of the cause of our bites which are most probably from bed bugs. The room we stayed in had an infestation of cockroaches, the breakfast was a none entity and the majority of the staff were rude. We tried our very best not to let this hotel ruin the experience of Paris but unfortunately it did.
