The hotel couldn't be more convenient being opposite the main entrance of the Gare Du Nord station making it a fantastic base to tour Paris via the excellent Metro, as well as having direct trains from Charles De Gaulle airport and the Eurostar from London.
As a hotel it's facilities are basic but clean. The room was simple but pleasant enough, worth it for the balcony and the view we had over the Gare Du Nord's ornate facade with the sacre Cour in the distance. We only once tried to use the hotel bar and found it closed at 11pm, though in Paris, I'm not sure why you would want to stay in and use the hotel bar?
The area around the hotel was ok, areas around stations are never the best but it's nothing a city dweller would baulk at. A few beggers, a few fast food joints nearby, but also some excellent cafes. We had several late nights and didn't feel at all threatened walking around.
Overall, a simple but clean and welcoming hotel that makes an ideal base for travelling around the city.
