Top Local Tips for Paris
Things to do When you arrive, get the RER to paris which is 8.10 euros and at Gare de Nord, get the orange line to Bastille. To get around, I liked walking most. You can walk all the way to the Arc du Triomph in around 1.5 hours. Along the way you can marvel at the seine, the louvre, place de concord, champs elysees. There's a nice restaurant chain called Fuxia. They had excellent service and nice food (it's italian though!)
Clown Bar -- fab food near Place de Republique We LOVED the Clown Bar --they had a WONDERFUL FOOD, great wine list, helpful staff (that tried to speak English) -- lovely locals (that even shared their wine with us) and fun old circus memorabilia. About 9-12 E/plate. (Clown was spelled like Clun or some other way -- not a direct translation.) It's near the old circus building. Rue Amlot (around 100)
save money by booking in advance When I went to NYC a few years ago I bought a city pass and I decided to do the same for Paris, it saved us a lot of time and money as it gets you in to all the main museums and you dont have to queue to get in or pay! You can buy from Expedia website in advance. However I wouldnt recommend the combined trip which includes dinner at the Eiffel tower if you are looking for romance - you eat with the whole group at communal tables and we were sat to the side and may as well have been inside a lift shaft as had no view! If you want to eat here book a table for 2 - more expensive but the couples we saw had nicer food and a view to die for! A word of warnign for veggies though - check the menu first as when we went it was a set menu and they seemed at a loss as to what to give my Fiance when he refused the meat and ended up with a weird combination of walnuts, fruit, veg & salad - pretty much a bit of everything and nothing!
