One of the cheapest places where you can be guaranteed a restful night's sleep. Noted and recommended by the Michelin Red guide. Extremely friendly night staff.
Rooms start at EURO80 and up. If this is within your price rage, do not hesitate to book.
The only downside is its location: a bit far from the city center - but not a problem if you plan on taking the Metro back to your hotel every night.
Very helpful stafffrom bowdoin
Great base for a Paris visitfrom A TripAdvisor Member
Jokes about the size of the rooms aside (they are
It is less than 20 minutes on the metro from most things you'd like to see in Paris, and right by Place D'Italie which has the largest shopping mall in Paris and regular outdoor produce markets. The area itself it on the edge of the Latin Quarter, and a good choice for getting to know the city.
Only downside other than room size is you might be disturbed by the police dragging someone into the ststaion opposite the hotel late at night, but all in all we'll probably stay here again.
What more do you need?from A TripAdvisor Member
As other users pointed out, the rooms are tiny, or let´s say compact, but cosy. The furniture and decoration are nice, if not stylish. The staff was extremely helpful and charming. We also had breakfast which I found excellent - and I´ve seen quite some "breakfasts" in Paris hotels...
A note on the surrounding: It is just a 2 minute walk to the metro station Place d´Italie as well as to one of the main streets of this arrondissement Rue des Gobelins. There are plenty of restaurants and shops and - if you feel like - go and see a film at the cinema. Some of the films are shown in the original version with French subtitles and the ambiance there is nice as well.
All in all, a pleasant and comfortable hotel with very good value. I will certainly return.
Excellent service trumps joke-sized roomsfrom harpbook
First, a word about the hotel's location. While the 13th arrondisement may be an up and coming section of Paris, I didn't see it. It's not say I didn't like the area; on the contrary, I found it untouristy, which was a plus. But for people who don't know Paris, or who are hoping to be within easy distance of recognizable landmarks, this may not be the place.
The lobby is small and, I guess, hip, but had no luxury or comfort to speak of. The rooms are a joke: so small that two people could never fit properly. I did find the claustrophobia strangely comforting. The bed was fine and I slept well. There is nothing at all luxurious about the rooms: do not expect it if you choose this property.
Given what I've said so far, you might wonder: why 4 stars? Well, the service was great. Not in a Four Seasons sense (again this is NOT a luxury hotel), but rather in a humane and sincere way. To wit: I had failed to realize my cell phone would not work in France. When I checked-in, I explained the problem to the front desk clerk, and he arranged to get me rental cell phone - said it would take about an hour. I showered (squeezed in barely at 170 pounds), took a short walk, and then I needed to leave for a business meeting. The phone had not arrived. I left anyway, and just as I was heading into the Metro (convienient, yes), a breathless hotel clerk came running my way with the phone - which I really needed. That's my definition of service.
Skip breakfast, have low expectations, and do remember that the only English TV station - BBC - sometimes does not work.
Would I stay again? No (well, maybe). Do I have fond memories? Yes.
One of the best budget hotels available!from A TripAdvisor Member
The staff at this hotel are it's biggest asset. We only stayed for two nights, but both the day and the night staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We actually sat drinking in the hotel bar until 5am on one of the mornings as were having such a laugh with the night porter/barman.
The rooms are small in this hotel, but, remember the architecture and the period that the builidng was built in and you will understand why. I travel quite extensively in europe and found the rooms to be undersized even by european standards, the ameriancs would be shocked!
Set your expectations, this is a quailty hotel in an excellent location, the rooms are small but lets face it, no one goes to paris to watch telly and eat room service in the hotel room, please don't be put off by this.
The beds are comfortable the furnishings are stylish and the rooms are air conditioned, what more do you need.
If you are going to stay over the weekend, make sure you check out the local market on Place D'italy in the morning. A really 'french' experiance.
I would recommend this to anyone although would only feel comfortable doing so as long as they understood about the room sizes. I would definatley stay again and again and again. It's rated 3 star but i'm sure this just takes into account the 'comfort' factors, when you consider the staff as well then you get a truely 5 star expriance at 3 star prices.
budget hotel, great locationfrom Tina_HKG
Great location - misleading photos!from A TripAdvisor Member
The communal areas of the hotel are very nice and modern - as described in Hip Hotels - Budget. The staff are pleasant and amenable to any enquiry. Breakfast is basic but more than adequate with a good selection of fruit, pastries, cereals and meat.
We stayed on the fifth floor which is high up enough from the police station to escape any noise that other reviewers have encountered.
The rooms however, are a real letdown - very small with dodgy tiling and when busy (Saturday night) a lack of hot water. They are neither hip nor comfortable. All things considered, for the price to stay at the hotel, in such a great location with so many brilliant things to do and see in Paris it is a pleasant enough stay in a good area.
If you've got the cash, I heartily recommend the Hotel Artus, which is slap-bang in the centre of the Latin Quarter and wonderful in every account.
Unfortunatley too small and too noisy !from Sandals2005
First of all the hotel is well positioned centrally in the Place d'Italie region of Paris, it is reasonably cheap and the decor and atmotsphere in the lobby reception is good. Unfortunately the rooms are absolutely tiny, I am talking about enough room for a bed and a small wardrobe and that's it.
But the worst thing is the hotel is right next door to a very busy police station and contray to other reports I found the police very noisy all through the night, they were coming out the front of the police station, directly adjacent to the hotel and they were smoking and laughing. On the saturday night there was a siren going every hour. This wouldn't be so bad if the hotel was properly insulated against noise but it isn't.
The front of house at the hotel are lovely and very helpful, the breakfast was ok. During our stay there was about 40 teenagers from the USA staying there and they seemed to like to sit down anywhere like on the carpert in the lobby!
If the hotel has slighty bigger rooms and wasnt' so near the police station I would recommend it without a doubt.
Snug but snazzyfrom shelbones
The hotel was snazzy, stylish, clean, and well-staffed, with a friendly breakfast room and a cute, inviting bar at one end of the lobby. The room was small-ish (but with a roomy bathroom) and clean, with adequate-to-good features... decent, but compact, beds. The flaws (there are always a few) were ones we could live with... some being simply "the European way" like no shower curtain around the (big) tub, no washcloths, no drawers; and others might have been an oversight, like no mirror in the bedroom (bathroom only, hard for 2 women sharing a room) and no kleenex. Otherwise, it was great.
There's a police station right next door, which we thought might be noisy, but wasn't at all. We were there during a snowy week and the Parisians in our neighborhood seemed to be having fun with it, especially the police.
Breakfast was yummy, consistent, and plentiful... enough so that we took our extra baguettes and cheese along with us for snacks later in the day.
The front desk people were genuinely friendly - especially Chantal and Laurent - not at all fitting into the stereotype we seem to keep affixing to Parisians. Even though we spent a LOT of time out seeing Paris, we also enjoyed our morning meal each day and a few leisurely cocktail hours right in our own hotel. That's more than I can say for the average American Holiday Inn!
Top Local Tips for Paris
Ryan Air Beauvais Flights Always remember to get to Porte Malliot 3.5 hrs before your flight leaves to avoid paying 130 euros for a taxi - doh!!
Theater The person who assigns your seat in a theater expects a tip - he/she lives on it and does not receive a salary
Metro Tip If you will be in Paris for more than a day or two, buy a CARNET, a book of 10 metro tickets, and ask for both the little plastic wallet holder and the map they give out for free at the metro stations. You'll use the tickets as the metro is THE way to get here and there quickly, and you will save a few euro-cents on each ride too.
