keep valuables and documents in Hotel safe, We have been robbed twice despite taking precautions, we were "conned also by a very repectable looking man" who insisted on helping us find our way from airport to metro, he said he was trying to help tourists as there were many pick-pockets about! He was sharp, a man on esculator ahead of us dropped a lot of coins, we tripped over him as did other people, we got robbed big time..... so did a few others. Credit cards, money, train tickets for Eurostar... Beware. trust nobody unless you know them
Take a taxi! We had a guidebook that told us to take a taxi to our first location from the airport, and that we would not regret it. We figured that, a family of four, we were pretty capable and that (if we took the Metro) we would save lots of money. Well, we did take the Metro, and we did save money. But the process was miserable. Even though one of us spoke French, we got terribly lost, had a miserable time dragging along luggage, and (all in all) spent 2 hours trying to get to our hotel. When we finally arrived, we had to use precious sightseeing time to regain our energy and nap. No matter how capable you think you are- even if you speak French- even if you have hardly any luggage- even if you have a map- take a taxi!!
