Nice lobby but small rooms. The service is good and the hotel is comfortable.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Le Meridien Etoile Hotel

For the Price ... I Expected More

from chanpatr
It's located in northwestern part of downtown Paris. Closest tourist attraction would be the Arc de Triomphe and Champs-Elysee ... about a 10 minute walk. Other attractions (Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, Le Louvre, and etc.) will require some form of transportation. Fortunately, there is a Paris Metro station about 3 mintues down the road from the hotel.

The hotel itself is large and lobby is impressive. The rooms however are small but please do remember that that is normal for Paris hotels. Another feature of the room is that the toilets are missing from the bathroom. The toilets are instead located in a small cubicle like room. Apparently, this is a very common in Paris hotels. The decor of the rooms are modern and well maintained.

The hotel staff will get mixed-reviews from me. I found the concerige really helpful in getting information on how to see Paris. But front desk (reception) gave me a hard time checking in. I booked the room on the hotel web site for 3 people. But when I got to the front office, they tried to charge us extra for the third person even though it was clearly included on our quote. I suggested to take my business elsewhere and they dropped the extra charge.

In terms of cost, I found this hotel to be a bit-overpriced. But then again, Paris hotels are known to be expensive.

The hotel is good. Breakfast is excellent. Check in is a little bit slow. Bathroom is clean and modern (good shower pressure and temperature). Beds and bedding could be better. The location is OK if you are doing business and not bad if you are on vacation. Convenient bus to the airport and very close to metro station. No old charm, this is a business hotel that at a reasonable rate may be a good option in Paris.

Nice Hotel, but not really 4 stars

Good location and close to the metro (although not much to do in the area) Nice lobby, very pleasant staff.
Rooms are about the quality of a Holiday Inn in the states, the Meridian Montparnasse is the same price but with much better rooms.

Wonderful Hotel!!!

This is a wonderful hotel in a great location. I can't say enough great things about our stay. The staff was super friendly and our room was great complete with bathrobe and slippers! We look forward to returning to Paris and staying there in the future.

Jazz bar is a definite plus

We stayed in Feb 2004, for an anniversary long weekend. We found no problems with checking in. the staff were charming. Our room was on the 5th floor, so no noise, but no view from window. The price was high, but heck this is Paris. We found the L'orenoc restaurant to be superb, BUT closed on Sunday???? Yes the jazz bar does mean you have to pay the cover charge but your first drink is included - so have champagne, we did. The shopping centre across the road has a Cinema and a nice deli/grocery store as well as the metro. It takes 10 minutes to get to the Louvre. The room is small but well appointed. We had breakfast included, but thought it was awful. You are better off going out to buy coffee and croissant at a cafe. In summary I would say it is a great place to stay but pricey, unless you can get a deal. We are going back in August

Great location and buffet breakfast

from A TripAdvisor Member
It was my wife’s first trip to Paris so she was really looking forward to it. We arrived at the hotel and were pleasantly surprised by the size and entrance of the foyer, I thought if this was the entrance I hoped the rooms were just as elegant, however we were a little disappointed with the gaudy leopard skin print carpets, and a view that overlooked the other side of the hotel, so we just kept the curtains drawn. The location of the hotel was really great. You are only a 10min walk from the Arc De Triomphe and Champs Elyse, There is the local metro about 2-3min walk from the hotel which goes to the Champs Elyse, Place de La Concorde, Louvre, etc. The hotel was perfectly situated for most sight seeing activities. The hotel staff were friendly. Our deal included the buffet breakfast and that was really phenomenal for a European hotel, they had a huge selection of everything ranging from fruit salads through to bacon, eggs, noodles, etc etc. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to other travllers.

Excellent location

from Veryfussy
Spent 3 nights here. Location excellent. Air France bus stops opposite hotel, metro and RER at top of the road, pleasant and reasonable local restaurants, bistor, bars. Public areas of the hotel luxurious and buzzing with conventions, air crew and all nationalities. Buffet breakfast good. Rooms ARE small but perfectly formed and nice design. Not as good as meridien Barcelona for example but for Paris fairly reasonable. Not a bijoux Parisian hotel... more business style... but I liked it and I am as fussy as a hotel inspector. Only negative no bar other than Jazz Club with a charge for live bands. Fine if you want to spend an evening but no good for a nightcap or pre-dinner cocktail. Wouldn't rave about this hotel but I would recommend it.

Comfortable, yet charmless, large hotel

from Buben
We stayed here over Thanksgiving on a five-day trip to Paris in 2003. We got the hotel for around $125 per night on Priceline, which I thought was a real value. I liked the hotel very much because it was very comfortable; it had a nice bathroom, nice king-size bed, nice bath products. However, my husband found it charmless, partly because our room had a view of some kind of interior dust bin. The hotel itself is enormous; the kind of anonymous place one goes on business. The location wasn't bad; it was on the edge of the city near the Champs Elysee, but near some charming neighborhoods (Victor Hugo square). The Air France bus comes DIRECTLY to the hotel, which was very convenient. Bottom-line: if value/comfort are important, this may be a good deal for you. If you'd rather stay in some charming small Parisian hotel in St. Germain, this is not a good option.

Nice hotel but small rooms

from A TripAdvisor Member
Recently we stayed at this hotel during our spring break vacation. The lobby is very nice and big but the room is fairly small. We didn't like the bathroom, because they were divided into to small bathrooms. The complimentary breakfast were great...no complaint about it. The location is ockay, in front of the hotel there's a small shopping center (The Atrium and great groceries store). The Metro is also very close from this hotel, but we had a to walk a little bit of a distance to the Champs Ellysse. Overall we had a great stay in this hotel.

Fine hotel for the price

from txlonghorn95
Positives: Air France bus from CDG airport drops off right in front of the hotel, 10EUR each way, much more convenient than the train. Subway stop 1 block away, easy to get to central Paris in under 10 min without changing trains. Clean room, nice bathroom (especially for Europe).
Negatives: The bed wasn't too comfortable, but it wasn't terrible either.

Most hotel restaurants/bars are NOT a good deal, so don't expect cheap food or drinks. Go out! You're in Paris! There's a wonderful restaurant just around the corner - L'Entrecote - menu is steak and french fries.
Steak has a wonderful Bearnaise sauce. Dessert menu is fabulous too.
Dinner runs about 30EUR each and includes seconds on the steak and fries, which are brought out family style. Steak is cooked to order.

Got a good deal on Priceline for this hotel. I was a bit disappointed that Priceline considered this hotel part of the Champps Elysses district, that's a bit of a stretch. But after staying here, it really wasn't too inconvenient, just not walking distance from central Paris.
The train made it easy.

Bottom line - if you can stay here for a decent price, it's not a bad hotel.

Top Local Tips for Paris

Taxi Taxi isn't that expensive from the airport to this hotel. It's right off the "motorway" or the freeway to the airport. Cost around 25 ~ 30 Euro.

Great food to be had in Paris I was outstanded by the quality of food that we had in Paris. I definately recommend reading up about resturants that suit your budget and get great reviews. Le Comptoir seems good - we did not eat there as we tried to book in advance but you cannot reserve - unless you phone on the day. We ate at Jules Verne -halfway up the Eiffel tower it was amazing food and service - quite expensive but worth every penny. You do not need to spend a fortune to eat well in Paris - just pop into a brasserie and have steak and chips for 13euros and it will be superb! The wine is also incredibly good and cheap!

once there .. food and drinks are quite expensive! 32 euros for 2 glasses of wine!! but its part of the experience to paris
