Historical Traveller Reviews of Langlois Hotel

Loved It

from DKiely
What a great little hotel. Very French - family run. Beautiful interior and while a little worn, the rooms were stylish. We stayed 2 nights and had a room at the back overlooking the courtyard which made it very quiet - although the street on which the hotel sits is relatively quiet too. Only disturbance was from an American couple who were having a bit of a row. I don't know what Diane did but her partner was annoyed!!

Hotel is well located also within a 2 mins walk of a metro stop and less than 10 mins from the main shopping district (Printemps etc)

very good but be aware

Just got back from a 3 night stay after reading the reviews on this site. The hotel is very central and very clean but when booking it may be an idea to request a room on a higher floor or not facing the road - we were in room 14 which was very noisy and very hot ! Fortunately there was a large portable fan in the room which stayed on all night.

Breakfast was disappointing - we weren't expecting a lot and that's what we got.If your idea of variety is the number of different jams then it's fine, but we thought 8.20euros was steep for cornflakes / mini pastries and bread rolls.

If (like us) you're "Easyjetting" from Liverpool to Charles-de-Gaulle,save yourself some grief by catching the Roissybus which stops right outside Terminal 3 - it costs around 8 euros one way and stops at the Opera, which is only 10 minutes walk away from the hotel.Operates every 12 minutes and is very quick and easy - was faster than the RER which involves a train change at Gare Du Nord.

At 89 euros for the double room and the central location this is a good choice - bear in mind that the most expensive room in the hotel is only 132 euros and it may be worth splashing out that little bit more !

Lived up to expectation

My husband and I visited France in early August, 2 days in Paris, 2 days in Normandy and 2 more days in Paris. The location is great. It's close to Gare de Nord (Eurostar, 5-min taxi) and Gare St Lazard (trains to Normandy, 5-min walk) and they have a luggage room where we could leave our luggages while we were in Normandy. 5-min walking distance to Gallerie Layfayette and Opera, and another 10-15 min walk to Louvre.

After consulting, we found the hotel website and were a little bit worry about no A/C in Summer at first. However, the rooms look so great in the website that we couldn't help making our reservation. We were happy with our decision. Room #33 (Euro 89) was not as colourful as it looks like in the website (pictures always look better) but was spacious and quiet. Temp at night was cool and it's OK to use fan. Bathroom was spacious, clean and tidy (no smelly mould).

The lift was old and small but functioning well and we loved it. Atmosphere is the charm of this hotel. We still haven't watched the file 'Charade, The Truth about Charlie'.

My favourite hotel in Paris

from lynnP
I last stayed in this hotel in December 2002, though I've been back to Paris many times in between. My second stay was as delightful as the first. Last time we got one of the large rooms on the top floor which are spacious and nicely decorated with nice, unique touches, nice fire places, old furniture, huge wardrobes, etc. This time we were in one of the smaller rooms, although I say smaller, they were still a good size, and just as nicely decorated. The rooms are clean, the staff polite and helpful, and as they serve a continental buffet breakfast you can eat your fill before setting out for the day.

Although it's in a really touristy area, it is still very central, and just a few minutes walk from the department stores and the Opera.

I'll definitely be going back this Christmas - I love this hotel.

Hotel Langlois is a great value

We stayed here for 10 days in late June/early July. We were in Room 21, which faced the courtyard, so had no view, but it was spacious, quiet, cool, and had lovely period furnishings. The staff was courteous, polite, and formal but never unpleasant. Breakfast was a good value, and there also is a lovely boulangerie several doors down from the hotel, which has wonderful croissants and eclairs. I stayed at a four-star hotel on a previous trip to Paris, but even though the Hotel Langlois lacks some amenities, such as a concierge, restaurant, and business center, it makes up for in charm and uniqueness. I definitely recommend this hotel.

Mixed Feelings

from Travel57
Visited in August 2004, lovely large room on 6th floor with view of Sacre Coeur. But not as good as I'd expected; smelly mould on shower curtain, which I reported to the staff. Only free standing fan to cool room - didn't enjoy listening to someone elses fan at night. Reception staff only spoke when absolutely necessary, I know Paris well and speak French but I think a welcoming smile and a greeting would make guests feel more welcome. The location is wonderful for the metro, but as a general location I'd not choose this hotel. I also stayed at the hotel louvre-forum on this visit and would prefer to stay there .

Stay here!

Good value,good location, good accomodation.
An excellent hotel for a short break in Paris, with a good location close to the Opera and Gallerie Layfayette. The rooms are spacious with antique furniture and paintings. We had a top floor room with a rooftop view. Very nice! We could see the spires of Sacre-Coeur which was very romantic and atmospheric! The cafes nearby are very adequate for meals and much cheaper than those nearer the sights. The hotel staff were friendly but we found that only one spoke English well enough to help/ recommend restaurants etc. Would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again.

A Great Hotel.

We stayed at the Langlois for four days in the first week of August having seen excellent recommendations on Tripa
We were very pleased that we did. The hotel was exactly as other customers had described it. The staff were friendly and courteous; the room was spacious and spotlessly clean; the breakfast was great; the hotel itself has a lovely atmosphere and it's just a short walk from the Trinité d'Estienne d'Orves métro stop.
We have since recommended the hotel to several of our friends, some of whom had rather grim stories to tell of other hotels!
In addition to the hotel itself, we found the reviews on this site to be really helpful. We won't be booking another hotel without consulting this site first!

We stayed at the Hotel Langlois (August 2004) on the recommendation of other trip advisor reviews. We loved it! The location was great for the metro and a close walk to the L'Opera area. Our rooms 12 & 14 were large, especially for Paris, with bay windows and clean bathrooms. The staff were pleasant and the hotel had loads of Parisian Old World charm with modern conveniences. I would definitely stay there again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Paris

The Bees Knees.

A really excellent small hotel in a very convenient location.
Good matter of fact service with no obsequiousness or indifference and really athmospheric room (64,on top of the house with Sacre Coeur visible in the early morning sunshine above the surrounding rooftops).
If anybody is used to the US style chain hotels then the Hotel de Langlois is NOT for you, but if its individualism at an affordable rate then it should be near the top of any consideration list.
Downsides...... While breakfast is a good buffet spread, the FRESH fruit is in fact processed from a tin stuff.
If U can live with that then away you go....
I certainly would stay here again.

Top Local Tips for Paris

Good dine places Aux Lyonnais - celebrated chef Alain Ducasse's bistro, Evi Evance - Greek-French mmm... yummy!, Leon de Bruxelles - reasonable

Carte D'Orange and the Metro If you are in good health and staying at this hotel, you are better off walking where possible and buying the 10 Carnet Metro Tickets for €10 for use when tired. We didn't get full use of the Carte D'Orange on this trip. When walking, you also see more and get a better perspective on Paris. The main tourist sights are all within a couple of square miles. For example, each morning we set off on foot and walked to the Eiffel Tower or Louvre or Musee D'Orsay or the Marais, etc.. Admittedly, when tired in the evenings, we used the Metro to zip back to the Hotel!

Gallopin Paris is full of great restaurants. Gallopin is an old brasserie with fantastic decor and very friendly staff. This restaurant has to forks in Michelin Guide and also a Bib Gourmand. Their set menu with starte, main course, dessert and 1/2 bottle of wine at 33 Euros is unbeatable. Book in advance. The adress is 40 Rue Notre Dame des victoires.
