All around excellent experience

from TravlinMan
Great hotel, great location, beautifully appointed and superior service. Found the desk and consierge staff to be very accomodating. The room staff was very good as well; however, we did notice that the turn-down service each night was inconsistent -- but still very very nice to have. Rooms are beautiful, if small by US standards. We were very comfortable and looked forward to returning to the hotel every day after a day of foot-weary tourism.

The only knock we'd have is with the restaurant - Cafe du la Paix. We only ate there for the breakfast buffet two of the days in town. Its pricey at E31.00, but about what you'd expect for this class of hotel. Be there by the 1030 cutoff or you won't get past the bulldog they have running the door...and if you get there after 930am, as we did on our second visit, be prepared for the serving dishes to stop being refilled by 10am. My wife asked the chef for pancakes and got a plateful of re-heated cakes that were literally as hard as a rock. A complaint to a manager yielded a plate of freshly minted ones, however. The food is excellent when they are trying...and they will try harder if you make a fuss. In some part, the French seem to recognize American's by our expectation for good service and fulfillment of special requests...and based on what you're paying here, not to mention what you're paying for your room, you should get it.

By the way, this seems to be the 5* hotel of choice for Priceline in Paris. We got our rooms for $235/night, well below the rates quoted on travel sites.

Again, highly recommended, and I'll be staying here on my next visit!

Exceptionally nice

from gjspring
We stayed here for only one night as we arrived one day earlier than origninally planned and our previously booked hotel was unavailable for the first night. What a wonderful place. The minute we arrived we were treated with 5-star service. The hotel receptionist greeted us and treated us divinely. We were quickly escorted to our luxury room and everything was fully explained to us - phone, TV, etc. Our only dissappointment was the size of the room, which was exceptionally small. (standard size room).
This hotel is has a large number of rooms for Paris - and the layout is a bit odd. The floors are a rough triangular shape. Be careful in keeping track of your room location, because we couldn't find ours after wandering out the first day and had to contact the front desk.... :)
Jet lag, perhaps?

This is one of the nicest places I've stayed in Paris (4th trip).

Beautiful

from Martin773
For once a hotel that lives up to its website! No surprises here...Expect only the best. Rooms were beautifully appointed exactly what you expect Paris to be. Ornate and grand, yet very cosy and warm. We had a deluxe room, so it was quite large with a nice view and HUGE bathroom...Both bedroom and bath had floor to ceiling windows. There was also a separate alcove (Sm room) where the closets and dressers were so you didnt have to look at luggage and dirty clothes!

*A tip...We joined the Intercontinental Ambassadors Club for 150 USD before going and we got 1 night free and a guaranteed upgrade, plus breakfast! Money well spent

As for as the downside of the hotel...
If breakfast is not included I would pass, cost was 31Euros a person and although it was a nice buffet, the the food was nothing great, in fact the eggs and sausages, bacon etc. were always cold and slimy.
The next which may not be a downside for some, but if you use the concierge for dinner reservations be advised that most of the resaurants they choose, even though good, are filled with Americans. we walked into a great little cafe with 9 tables every table was filled with Americans. Again for some this may be fine, I personally go to Europe to get away from my own kind! :)

Le Cafe de la Paix is a must for dinner...Food superior and the service and friendliness of the staff outstanding.

If you are looking for a truly "grand" parisianne experience this is the place to stay!

The location is also excellent if you plan on shopping or sightseeing. Just minutes from fine boutiques and high end department stores: Galleries Lafayette, Au Printemps. and across the street was the Oprea Garnier.

Can't wait for my next visit to Paris, and I have found a new home at the Le Grand Hotel.

fantastic location, service

from 1stimePR
We stayed at the Le grande hotel in May 2004 for two nights. Given the short time, we were able to see must of the major attractions in Paris. Most of this was due to the location of Le Grande. Its just superb! Walking distance to everything. If you enjoy walking along the river banks, and don't mind the distace, then you will not have to take a cab or subway if you stay here. We walked to Notre Dam and even to the Eiffle Tower.

Staff at the hotel were friendly. They can get you tickets to the boat ride and any musicals you would like to see. I had left my sunglasses during a check-out procedure. Thought they were lost... however, I was surprised by a mail one day. They had mailed my sunglasses over to me with a nice letter. yOu can not beat this kind of service! Enjoy your trip!

Very comfortable, excellent location

from DCTita
My husband and our two children ages 14 and 15 stayed at the Le Grand November 21-26. The hotel is immaculate and beautiful. Rooms were as expected, compact, but very well appointed and intelligently laid out. The bathrooms were lovely, although the bath/shower combo was a little weird due to the "half" door which permits water to leak onto the floor. Our kids' room was slightly bigger and had a separate shower. The front desk staff was accomodating about getting us into our rooms early (12pm) and also was able to give us a room with two separate beds next to ours for the kids. (despite our Priceline rate!) Location is superb. BUT, concierge staff remarkably knuckleheaded, at least to us Yanks. Exceptions in our experience were Luc and Almina (sp) who was not part of the regular Concierge staff but filling in better than the regulars in terms of responsiveness and just general knowedge! Amazing lack of any computer resources for concierge staff to use, unwillingness to make simple calls to get information, amazing level of indifference overall. And we are not demanding, obnoxious Americans. Luckily for the most part we knew what we wanted to do and where we wanted to go, as they were absolutely no help.

Truly Grand

We stayed at Le Grand hotel in July 2004. The room was lovely, and very clean. Service was excellent- very courteous and tolerant of our not so good French.
One thing to be aware of is when taking a taxi, be sure to say Le Grand hotel, NOT Intercontinental, as there is another (not quite so nice) Intercontinental a few blocks away.

Great Location - So-so staff

Stayed three nights here Nov. '04. Wonderful location, luxurious rooms and truly great bathroom. The staff, however, was not terribly friendly or informed.

InterContinental Le Grand, Paris

Went to Paris for five nights and stayed at this great hotel. Arrived at 10AM, but they were able to accommodate us with our room, allowing us to freshen up before a day of sightseeing. Had been told rooms could be small, especially for Priceliners,(we took our chances) so we were not totally taken back by the "tres petite" room. I can understand why they have plasma TV in every room, they don't have room for full sized ones.
The location was great. Fifteen min. walk to the Louvre, two blocks to great shopping. With comfortable shoes, you can get anywhere. We walked everywhere, though there is a Metro stop right on the corner. Concierge was helpful in giving us directions and making show reservations. English is spoken by all front staff.
Rooms were well appointed and well kept as you would expect from a First Class hotel. Great beds and linens. Bathrobes, slippers and turn down service.
Bar is very pricey, 15 Euro drinks, but we soon found out Pais is very pricey, from 5 Euro Tea, 4 Euro Cokes, and 30 Euro continental breakfasts.
The 8.30 Euro Roissybus from CDG airport stops right across the street, making it a better deal than the 60 Euro rush hour Taxi.
Would recommend this fully refurbished hotel.

Super luxurious!

My husband's company sent him to a conference in Paris and so I joined him. Le Grand Hotel is easily the fanciest hotel I have ever stayed at. The room was large and well appointed. Two complaints: the elevator was very slow and the concierge seemed a bit overwhelmed. (They never answered my call to the desk.) Still, I enjoyed my time there and the location is great!

Beautiful hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at Le Grand in October and enjoyed it. Here are pluses: Beautiful hotel; attentive, nice staff; nice bar in lobby including beautiful sitting area where you can have your drinks on comfy sofas; business center that is accessible 24/7; health club (a little skimpy but treadmills are there) (it's 24 hours but it's locked after certain time so staff has to open for you); bustling city area; right next to subway; next to stop where you can catch bus to CDG airport. Also, room we had was beautiful and comfortable and had a little terrace that you could stand on and see sights below. The only thing we didn't like: After 2 A.M., area dies down outside. There is one 24-hour cafe open that is wonderful - Le Grand Cafe, down the street. (There is also restaurant in hotel that has great breakfast buffet --- that restaurant closes about 12:30 a.m.) In morning, for example, about 7 a.m. on weekday we couldn't buy a newspaper anywhere as every news stand was closed! (Do the French go to work later than Americans?) Also, in room: Bathrooms are gorgeous but not too functional. That is, shower door is half-door so water gets on floor. Also, flat-screen TV wasn't clear and picture was too dark. Minor things! Would we stay again? Well, with so many choices in Paris, we'd try out another hotel.

Top Local Tips for Paris

Traveling b/w countries Following our trip to Paris, we took the high speed train to London. It was fast, convenient and couldn't have been easier...indeed better than flying.

Take the Roissy Bus! From the Hotel entrance, turn right and walk straight. The buses will be parked at the Amex Buildiing, , you can't miss them, its only 8.50 euros per person one way!
