Good location but basic

You can't fault the hotel's central location, but it does lack some of what I would expect from a 3 star hotel e.g tea & coffee making facilities. The rooms are very small, the TV smaller and breakfast facilities 'simple' The hotel is, however, clean and tidy and the staff friendly. It is ideal as an inexpensive hotel from which to base yourself for visiting Paris.

Nightmare hotel with bed bugs
from sarafzion
We were in Paris for 3 nights. This Hotel is not at all like the picture. The lobby and rooms are no where near the picture. We woke up at night because the beds where infested with bed bugs and they bit us. They finally gave us another room the next morning. We were forced to stay in the same hotel because all the hotels in Paris were booked and we couldn't find another one. The hotel manager was not very helpful. I still have bumps all over my body and I am still itching. Our stay was ruined because we couldn’t sleep properly the other 2 nights and we were exhausted the whole time. The only positive thing about this hotel is that the location and most of the staff spoke English and for 170 Euro you can find other hotels like that. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone.
nice hotel, good value for money
from dcel
my cousin and i stayed here for two nights last weekend and we can defintely recommend this hotel.
this hotel is two minutes walk from the jacques bonsergent, 5 mins to gare de'lest and republique station. the hotel is clean, staff are friendly and breakfast substantial.
although it is not centrally located, the convenience of the 3 metro stations make up for it.

4 days in Paris

we found paris and its people to be wonderful. We stayed at the Relais Republique hotel at 38 Blvd Magenta. Our room was air conditioned with in room thermostat, a large bathroom and a wonderful view including Montemarte and the Tour Effel. The staff was wonderful to us.
I would highly recommend the Metro. Its easy to use, cheap and easy on your feet.I use some CD's, and the BBC on line french lessons prior departing. With a french vocabulary of about 100 words I found waiters, clerks and regular citizens to be kind, patient and willing to show the best of Parisians and all their city has to offer.

Good hotel
from Traveling_Fiend_007
Overall, this hotel was good value for the money I spent. We stayed here for nights and the staff was great, rooms were clean, and a great location near the Gare du Nord. Coming from CDG was very easy. The area around the hotel provided good restaurants and good cheap ethinic food as well. If you need a cheaper place to stay, this is a good option. Breakfast was too expensive, so we passed on that. However, there was a pastery shop very close where we bought breakfast.
Good value

Just returned from a 4-day stay at the Relais de Paris republique, and was surprised at how good it was. We travelled on Eurostar, and the hotel's proximity to the Gare du Nord was a distinct advantage. The staff were polite and helpful, the room clean and maps and advice on the Metro and sights readily available. Breakfast was plentiful.
Our room was at the back of the hotel, overlooking a courtyard, and was relatively quiet, though the hotel is in a busy area. The area itself appeared rather seedy at first sight, but did not appear unsafe - as everywhere in Paris, the police were very much in evidence.
We found plenty of good places to eat in the area without difficulty, and most were surprisingly reasonable. As always, the ability to speak some French seemed to help.
All in all, an excellent base from which to visit the sights of Paris at reasonable cost.

A mixed bag, but decent value

We travelled to Paris on a tight budget and picked this hotel. There are definitely pluses and minuses to this place. Big plus is the price----very cheap and you actually get a decent-sized, fairly clean room for the money. The hotel has been renovated within the last couple of years, but is already showing a lot of wear and tear----as well as some grafitti in the common areas.
The hotel is also not in the nicest of neighborhoods. I knew going in that the 10th Arrondisemont is not glamorous---it's a working-class neighborhood close to Gare du Nord----but it had been many years since I last travelled to Paris, and if you haven't been there for a while, one of the first things you'll notice is the city has really, really deteriorated. This is largely because of high youth unemployment in France right now and you therefore have a lot of young people with nothing to do besides commit petty crime. There is a lot more litter, dirt, and vandalism as well as street hustling going on in Paris now than there was even 10 years ago, and that is evident in this neighborhood especially. Watch yourself in this neighborhood after dark.
Hotel desk staff here were very courteous, esp. if you speak French. Maid service was spotty---some days we did not get a full cleaning/replenishing of our room, and the maid even forgot a pile of wet towels on the floor of our room one day! Also, be careful of the shower stall, which has no "lip" and therefore can leak a tidal wave all over. Skip the breakfast---it's overpriced, you are better off buying something at a bakery.
In retrospect I probably should have spent 30-40 more euros a night and stayed on the Right Bank in Montparnasse, but if you are travelling on a very tight budget this place is adequate.

would I stay here again ? - with no hesitation what so ever

This hotel was absolutely perfect for our 4 day visit to Paris. The hotel is nice and clean, easy to get to from CDG by train (RER), takes about 35 mins. Checking in was easy and hassle free, the rooms compact but clean. No complaints with the WC/Shower (no bath), the shower area is nice and wide, the shower unit is of good quality, nice hot flowing water, just what you need to start or end a day. The staff very friendly and helpful. Within walking distance of 2 Metro stations, one is 2 mins walk and the other (Republique) 5 mins walk. We did not not find the area dodgy at all. Breakfast cost 8.5 euros pp but there are plenty options nearby. We used to eat breakfast nearby for 4 euros each (croissants/ tea etc). All in all, this hotel was just right for our needs, I would thoroughly recommend it for short stays.
lovely little boutique hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
Lovely little hotel, easy walk from the Gare du Nord Eurostar station (15-20 mins). Staff very helpful. Hotel very, very clean. Rooms are small, but this is a common thing in Paris. Stayed with my 2 children 9 & 11, double bedded room with an extra bed, overlooking an internal courtyard, not much of a view, but very quiet. Our room was next to the lift (606) which was a bit noisy, but not too much!. My friend stayed in room 604 which overlooked the main street, a bit noisy with the windows open, but good view of the Sacre Coeur if you looked up the street and you can just see the top of the Eiffel Tower. Lift is small, but not as small as some I have stayed in. Breakfast downstairs is great and plenty of it. Easy access to the Metro and we felt very safe in this area. Would definitely stay there again!! We booked through Superbreak and thought it was very good value for money.
Value for money

Excellent value for money, area is not dodgy at all. Metro close by, less than 1hr to disney and about the same from airport, located close to gare de nord(eurostar). Rooms small but modern and clean. Staff are friendly, breakfasts were buffet style and a good selection. This hotel shames many 4 star hotels. I would definately stay here again
Friendly and good location
from DonaldCL
Very close to the Metro, good bar that serves good food just yards away and a short walk to lots of restaurants in the Place de Republique (avoid the huge Chinese just off the Place de Republique), but good Belgian restaurant on corner. Good pizza at Maya.
Disagree with reviewer who thought it a 'dodgy' area. It's quite classy with flash appartments in grand 19th century buildings.
Rooms a little small but staff very friendly (encouraged our kids to speak French) and good breakfast.
PS
Chartier near Grand Boulevard Metro station is a MUST - great food, cheap prices and a real dining experience.
