Hotel Yikes!

from kotm
I was disappointed with my stay at the hotel. I find it very hard to believe that this is a 3 star hotel - especially as I stayed in two other Best Western 3-star properties while in France and had a very different level of service and experience. I had several issues right from check-in:
- my room was not ready until 2 hours after official check in time
- the radiator in the room was not operational and left the room very cold
- the cable television did not operate
When highlighting these issues, the front desk staff just deferred to the employees on the next shift to solve the problems. In all instances, there was no resolution and I was not transferred to another room.

On a positive note, the room was cozy, yet clean. The beds were comfortable and WiFi in the hotel permitted internet access. Overall though, I would seek out other hotels in the area before landing on this one.

Very Disappointed

from tennisNCarolina
While the location is ideal, the property is old and should be updated. On the second night of my stay, there was a malfunction with the lock on my door and I had to sit in the hall for 2 hours while a locksmith was called. Initially, I was told that I could have another room and would get my belongings later...needing my medication, I made it clear that it was unacceptable. When the locksmith arrived, he got me into the room, but told the hotel clerk on duty that the lock was defintiely defective. The clerk booked me into a second room, which had a malfunctioning electronic, on to the 3rd 1 am in the morning, I was in a room and then had to unpack again.
The rooms are also cold. the thermostats were pre-set and would not go above 17 degrees.
Management Response from MNGBWAM
Dear Sir, I thank you for taking the time to write. I am really sorry for the incident that happend to you. The lock on the room you were has been changed and we have a complete new system coming in December. Regarding to the heating in the room we have 2 systems, one is the aircon which is working for cold air, and the second is the heater in the room where you need to turn the thermostate. Hopefully we will see you again to show the new system. Best Regards

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Segur Best Western Eiffel (metro Cambronne, Av. Garibaldi) for 4 days in October 2007. We were both disappointed. We would not stay there again. Best Western should rethink putting their name on this one.

The room/ Hotel in general The room was so small it was nearly comedic. If you are claustrophobic, you will have a hard time staying here. There is a tiny little elevator but only the cleaning staff seem
to use it, which leaves you to the stairs, which are small, narrow, and winding. Our room was very small, there was hardly any room to walk around the sides of the bed. I think this is Europe-wide, but there was no clock in the room. There is definitely some confusion about the “included breakfast” since some literature said it was included yet my husband got a coffee and they charged him TEN EUROS! You’re much better off walking down the street toward the train station and getting something from the bakery on the corner. There are a lot of cafés nearby (walk toward the Cambronne metro station). There is also a Monoprix, which is like a department store, within walking distance. And a McDonalds for those who are so inclined... There was no fridge or microwave in the room and the view was terrible
(non-existent) of the side of another building (although we do not really care about views since we are not there to hang out in the room!) You can hear other rooms-- toilets flushing, people talking etc...

The bed was comfortable enough and the pillows were ok, nothing great.
The floor was very dusty and badly needed to be vacuumed or swept and it didn’t seem to be done at all while we were there.

Bathroom Facilities
The real downside to this room was the bathroom. The bathroom was very small. The toilet seemed a little unstable when you sat down on it. The shower was tiny (you couldn’t bend down to pick something up off the floor, you had to squat) and was missing floor tiles, the curtain wasn’t wide enough to cover the whole entry (resulting in a wet floor) and the bracket holding the shower head up was broken so you kept having to adjust it back to spraying properly. I dreaded taking a shower. At least the water was warm.

The service was good when they came to get luggage from the room. The front desk was satisfactory with providing directions. My husband called the desk to request an iron. They literally brought an iron and no ironing board, so I don’t know what was going on there...

Value/ Price
Once we looked up other hotels we realized this one was overpriced for what it is and most of those appeared to really include free breakfast!

Getting there
You can get to this hotel from the airport without getting a taxi (which would cost you about 60 Euro). Paris’ excellent metro system allows you to take transit right from the airport. Take the RER B in the direction of Robinson. Get off at Denfert Rochereau and take line 6 (light green on the metro maps) to Charles de Gaulle Etoile. Get off
at Cambronne. The hotel is just up the street (walk back down parallel to the metro line). I only had one medium pullman suitcase so it was no problem

Dear Guest,
Thank you for sharing your opinion. Please note that a lot of renovations have been done in the rooms and bathrooms since last year. It is now newly decorated & furnished and measures have been taken regarding the cleaning.
We propose a breakfast buffet for 12 euros. In your case there might have been a misunderstanding between a coffee and a full breakfast as our guests usually have the full buffet. We are surprised to read you found in some litterature that breakfast is included. Could you please let us know in which one you read this? Best regards.

Central, Clean, Well Furnished, Great Staff... a little loud

from mickeycireland
This property is very well located right beside metro stop cambronne and about a 15 minute walk to the eiffel tower. The building itself is a little old, like most parisian buildings. the rooms are very modern with comfortable bed, double glazed windows and a good clean bathroom.
The staff were excellent and very helpful. Special thanks to the night porter who printed my boarding pass at 2am, cheers.
The only negative i have is the sound proofing within the building. I was woken at 7am and could not return to sleep with the sound of shutting doors, chatting or coughing seeping in easily through the walls. I believe this may be a problem in many parisian hotels due to the old buildings.
On the whole i found the place a decent hotel if a little overpriced.

Not what I expected

from beth507
The website for this hotel does a great job talking it up, but it has a lot of faults. First of all, its very loud, and the only way you can close your door is if you slam it shut. At night this was a huge annoyance. It is also right next to an above ground metro which was very loud if you were in the front of the building. The air conditioner on the floor we were on was also very loud. In addition, when we checked out they charged us for 1 breakfast which we never had. There were 4 of us and we ate together every day outside of the hotel. It does have satellite TV but there are only about 9 stations that worked. All of them were French except for the British version of CNN. I had assumed satellite TV would give you a few more options. Lastly, we had a bad experience with the maids. We left a tip of a few euros on the bed each day for the maid when she made up our room. One day we came back to the room early and noticed that the tip was gone but our room had not been touched. We asked the maid on our floor if she had taken it, and she was shocked to find it wasn't there because she hadn't been to our room yet. We came to find out that someone was going into our room everyday and taking the money, and it wasn't the maid. That was a little scary. All of our stuff was fine though.

Note - the bathrooms were newly redone and very clean. The rooms were very small but that is common everywhere in Paris. The hotel staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. However, overall we would not recommend this hotel and would not stay here again.

Dear Sir or Madam,
Thank you for writing your review, which is very important to us.
We apologies for the annyance regarding to the doors slamming, we have now proceeded to a complete check of all the doors and the airconditionning system as well. Regarding to the situation near the metro stop, we do have sound proof windows in all the rooms, and as well we have rooms overlooking our inside garden. Regarding to the extra charge for breakfast, we do apologize , this must be a mistake. As to the channels on the televisions we have re programmed all the televisions. Our employes have been working with us for a long time, and I thnik that it might be a misunderstading because, nobody can enter the rooms without going through the reception desk, as well the electronic key system allows us to check each person entered to any room. Again we thank you for your review and do not hesistate to contact us should you stay in Paris again or for any further information.
Best Regards Charlotte JENSEN

Great reception

from wrk2712
We spent 3 days in May in Paris at the Best Western Paris Segur hotel. The receptionists at the desk were exceptional. For example, when we left the hotel to travel to London, my wallet fell out of my pocket in the taxi on the way to Gard Nord. I called the hotel to tell them about it and I had my wallet back in 20 minutes. The receptionist called the taxi and the driver delivered the wallet to me at Gard Nord. Fantastic! There really are great people in this world who help others.

Not bad....does the job

from hawaiiboundToronto
I stayed at this hotel for a week and it certainly does the job as a home base place to stay while in Paris. It is fairly close to the Eiffel Tower and very close to the Metro - I found the stop "Segur" the closest one to use. There are a few cafes and stores around but it not necessarily a bustling touristy spot....which some may like! There is a grocery store close by too on the way to the Metro. The room itself was clean and the beds were super comfortable. The bathroom was newer and clean. My air conditioning wasn't working which wasn't a huge deal but having the fan going at least would have helped to eliminate the noise of people walking by the rooms. My room was on the ground floor which was nice because I didn't have to deal with the lift or the stairs. The ground floor rooms open to a little courtyard...but you could hear people walking by and going into their rooms if you had your window open. All in all it was an ok place to stay....would I stay again?? Probably - but would prefer a place closer to the "action"...but that's just me!!!

First experience of Paris

from babsglynn
Found Paris to be a friendly welcoming place. People very friendly and helpful.
My stay at Eiffel Segur was disappointing in some aspects.
Our first room which was off the courtyard was not suitable in my opinion as a bedroom for 2 people. The extremely tiny size made it almost impossible to move around. Although very clean and presentable the air was very stale as the room had no window or ventilation whatsoever, the only way to get clean air was to keep front door open. Staff responded well to our complaint and offered us another much more suitable room for our 2nd and 3rd night stay.
Also felt it unusual to offer breakfast of basic bread juice and hot drink with additional charge for any extras...Feel it would be much better to have charged the one rate at outset for bed/breakfast...As a member of Great western chain I expected a much better breakfast choice and venue as room very shabby and tucked away in basement.
Management Response from EiffelSegurMng
Dear Guest,
Thank you for your review. We propose a full breakfast buffet for 12 euros with:
yogourts, cheese, fresh pressed orange juice, pastries, bread, butter, soft or hard boiled eggs, fruit salad, cereals, coffee, tea, chocolate, etc...
Best regards.

Average place

from ellone
I stayed at the hotel April 19-23. I got a room on the 4th floor facing the street. There is noise from the doors slamming, but that's the only way to get the doors to lock. Tried to close it gently, but it wouldn't close that way! For some reason the water in the shower was too hot. Tried to adjust it, but just couldn't get it cooler. There was also water dripping onto the floor (yes some came out the open part of the shower), but there seemed to have been a need for some re-caulking. The area was fine, close to the metro. Wouldn't suggest going to the french restaurant next door - was first given an incorrect bill and then given incorrect change (tried to short me 10 euros).
Management Response from EiffelSegurMng
Dear Madam, dear Sir,
Thank you for your review. We are very attentive to our guests' remarks. Renovations have been done and we have no more problems with the doors since our magnetic key system has been completely changed. We hope to see you again.

Very Good Value!

from retiredandtraveling
3 couples stayed 8 nights in March 2007. All rooms clean and well serviced daily. Beds are excellent with 2 large pillows. Rooms are small, but this is Paris! Staff very helpful during the day - answered questions, made reservations. Has elevator, but it stops between floors so you have to either walk up 11 stairs or down 11 stairs to get to your room. Except for doors slamming, room was very quiet. Very convienent to 2 metro stops. Neighborhood was great - lots of great restaurants and even the patisserie owner got to know us. We made coffee in the room and bought baguettes and croissants for breakfast in the room. WiFi connection costs 20Euros for 5 hours. Got a good rate of 80 Euros per night per room and it was well worth the price.
Management Response from EiffelSegurMng
Thank you for writing your review on tripadvisor ! We are very pleased that you have enjoyed your stay. A little information regarding our WIFI connection cards, you have rates from 5€ for 45 minutes to 20€ for 300 minutes, there might have been a little misunderstanding from the front desk.
Our lift stops only on mid floors, for exemple to go to 3rd floor you go to the 4th and walk down to the 3rd. Again thank you and we would enjoy welcoming you again near the Eiffel Tower!

Top Local Tips for Paris

The Best Food anywhere No need to pay huge amounts for a great meal. The neighborhood bistros and restaurants were wonderful, for about $35.00 for 3 course meal. Make reservations! Try a few words in French and almost every Frenchman will help you in either their English or sign language - no problem!!

Relocate breakfast room The breakfast room in basement very unappealing...Two of the bedrooms off courtyard would be better knocked into one and converted into breakfast room with tables and chairs in the courtyard when weather permitting...In particular room 5 off courtyard was far too small to be used as a double bedroom...Like being in a stuffy dark cupboard with no window or natural light.

From the Airport I used a shared shuttle service from the Airport - CDG - and it was fine. They picked up a few of us and then when into the city. It was good to see the city while driving around as opposed to taking the train. The cost was 25 euros which I booked online before I left. On the way back to the airport I used the metro and the suburban train - which is fine if you don't mind connecting and carrying your bag thru a few turnstyles and up and down some stairs. It took about an hour from my hotel near the Eiffel Tower and the cost was only about 8 it was pretty cost effective. The hotel wanted 55 - set price - from the hotel to the airport - not a chance I was doing that!!!! I figured I had used the metro quite effectively and wasn't concerned at all about getting there. TIP - keep your metro map handy at all times so you know which direction you are going - it's easy to get around - don't let the 14 different lines scare you!!!!!
