For a last minute trip, the price was very reasonable...compared to similar rated hotels. The room was quite small but I understand that is usual for European hotels. The staff was great...spoke English and helped with directions and metro instructions.

Our issue largely centred round the fact that we had booked a double room, preferably on the upper floors about 2 months prior to our arrival, sufficient time you would think to secure a room that you would be happy with. On arrival we had a ground floor room right by the front door on street level. Not only that, the air-conditioning in the room was broken! and it happened to be a heat-wave in Paris at the time..unlucky you could say however the hotel staff were totally inflexible and talk of 'possibly' being able to change our room at some point over the weekend came to nothing. Not only that, we were offered no sort of compensation whatsoever, even a goodwill gesture of some description was not forthcoming. The hotel itself was in a wonderful location, right by the Pantheon, the rooms however, or at least the one we were in was very small and stuffy. Ok if you're only staying a night or too.

We liked the location. We loved the decor of the rooms. The pretty colors were just the thing to brighten up the gloomy weather. Would certainly stay there again.

Great Stay at Hotel du Pantheon

A charming, well-run boutique hotel. We stayed 6 nights in late July and had a lovely 6th floor room - somewhat smallish but quite adequate with courtyard views, a huge, bath, and a balcony with bistro table and chairs with a view of Sacre Coeur. Nights were gloriously quiet and we slept well. The staff was extremely helpful. We had a lost-luggage problem and received attentive assistance from the concierge (Norbert) who helped us retrieve it quickly. The air-conditioning was a godsend as the weather was quite warm . The hotel looks out on the Pantheon and is very close to Rue Mouffetard and other Latin Quarter locales - Luxembourg Gardens, etc. We were very pleased with Hotel du Pantheon and recommend it.

Charming hotel, great location

We stayed eight nights during early July 2004 at the Hotel du Pantheon. Rooms are small but well designed. We had two closets, a queen-sized bed, a water closet, and a bath. The shower worked well. There is a small elevator (very nice for bringing bags to or from your room) and a great circular stairway.

Decor is very pleasant and everything was clean and neat. The view was spectacular -- we had a fifth floor room, with a little balcony, looking directly across (75-100 meters) at the Pantheon. On a clear day, you could see Sacre Coeur in the distance.

Staff was most friendly and helpful, especially Marie. All staff members were fluent in English, but were also willing and happy to work with us on our French.

Breakfast is available in the vaulted cellar. Rather nice -- bread, coffee, various fruits, juices, ham, cheeses, etc. Price is 10 Euros per person.

Check for internet specials. We used bookings.org and saved considerably compared to the rates on most other sites.

We thoroughly enjoyed the neighborhood as well. There are a number of small restaurants in the area that offer good food. The Luxembourg Gardens are just a couple blocks away. There are little squares, and wonderful boulangeries, and small green grocers. Great area to walk -- wonderful little discoveries around so many corners.

Would definitely stay here again.

I stayed at the Hotel Du Pantheon in June 2004. Being the pessimist that I am, when I first entered the lobby of the Hotel, I was expecting the worst but I was pleasantly suprised. It was smart, cosy and inviting. The young lady at reception was pretty, polite, friendly and spoke very good English. Getting the keys to our room was a quick and painless experience.

I was equally surprised by the room. While it was small, it had obviously been decorated very recently and was in excellent condition. The paint work was crisp and smart, and the room was very clean and tidy. The colour scheme was a little wacky, but it was cute and typically French.

The location of the Hotel was excellent. It couldn't have been in a nicer area of Paris. Situated next to the impressive Pantheon, the whole area was traditional, smart, clean and charming. The nearby cafes were excellent.

Great Location, Great Hotel

Stayed here May 28-June 1 2004 and loved it. It's a great location with great rooms and very friendly staff.
The room was a good size for central Paris, and was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. It also had the bonus of Aircon which you don't often get in the older hotels (two other reviewers mentioned theirs didn't work over the same weekend but ours certainly did).

We had breakfast in our room on a couple of days and it was good, but not excellent (room for improvement on the croissants !).

One thing to note - if you are a light sleeper avoid Room 1 as it's on the ground floor near the entrance of the hotel. We spent one night in it and were woken in the morning by people going to breakfast. However, we were moved the next day without a problem to a lovely room on the third floor with a great view of the Pantheon.

A Must Read Before You Book

My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel. We had a 4 night reservation but ended up staying only the first night and spent the remaining 3 nights at the Hotel Mercure La Sorbonne 3 blocks away (more spacious and much nicer for the same price). The day we arrived to Paris was very hot. When we got into our room (extremely compact, as described by the previous reviewer) it was very stuffy, so we had to open our windows (which did not help much, as the weather outside was equally hot). It wasn't until I complained that we were told that the AC is centrally controlled and that it is not turned on until late June. They offered us a small fan as a solution. When I spoke to the manager on duty, Mr. Yann Benedetti (who was respectful but awfully incomprehensive, stubborn and uncompromising - in contrast, his staff did agree with us and offered some apology), I told him that we were not going to stay there 4 nights without AC and that we were going to move to another hotel. Despite my multiple attempts to come to a fair understanding, Mr. Benedetti replied that if we did not stay at least the first night, he would have to charge us the "no show" charge (i.e. 1 full night). In the end, we were forced to stay the first night at the Du Pantheon to avoid paying double, and moved to the Hotel Mercure the next morning. To make matters worse, the morning we were leaving, the elevator broke, so we had to carry our bags down 3 stories through a very narrow and steep staircase. Mr. Benedetti checked us out and he never offered any apologies, much less, any assistance with the move. All in all, we ended up loosing almost one full day in the process of looking for another hotel and the move. Hotel Du Pantheon advertise its rooms as having air conditioned (climatisses) and they never clarify that the AC only works from late June to mid September. This is misleading! You'll be better off at the Mercure La Sorbonne.

My husband and I recently stayed at this quaint hotel which is in a ideal location! The room we had was VERY small with no view of the Pantheon. We have stayed at other smaller hotels in Paris and the
rooms were larger with ample closet/bureau space. I had to leave most of my clothes in the suit case.
The shower had a half door and it was difficult to shower without leaving a puddle of water on the floor. It can be very slippery!!
The weather was wonderful and warm but unfortunately the air-conditioning did not work. We had to keep the windows open to cool the room. I would say what appealed to us the most was the location. There was many bistro's, cafes and shops nearby and a easy walk to the metro. I was a bit disappointed overall with the hotel after reading the earlier reviews but we had a very memorable time in a wonderful city.

We had been planning our trip to Paris for almost a year and after much deliberation (buying guide books, combing the internet), we chose the Hotel du Pantheon. What a absolutely wonderful choice! The hotel was darling, the location was outstanding, the staff were charming and we loved every minute of our stay. We loved the Left Bank and the neighborhood surrounding the hotel. It was a very easy walk to the Metro and the RER and there were terrific coffee shops and cafes close by. We thought the breakfast was a great deal at 10 euros. The view of the Pantheon outside our room was breathtaking. It was a perfect vacation and I'm already missing Paris and the Hotel du Pantheon!

What a great location! Our room was small but perfectly formed and had a fantastic view of the Pantheon. The bathroom, like the room itself, was small but spotless. The staff were helpful. The hotel is located a short walk from the many restaurants in the Rue de Mouffetard or around Boulevard Saint Michel. Not to mention a short walk to the lovely Jardin du Luxembourg. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Central, beautiful view, beautifully decorated, kind staff, free wireless internet access in the lobby (if you have a laptop)... what more do you need? We got a great rate on the Hotels Paris Rive Gauche site and loved our stay. Very highly recommended!

Just returned from a wonderful week in Paris....complete with delightful, sunny weather and the pleasure of another unexpected delight - The Hotel Du Pantheon. It was everything previous writers in this forum had declared and more. We stayed in room # 53 - corner room with 3 windows (including one in the bathroom) and had excellent views of the Pantheon. By European standards, and for a supposed 3 star hotel, it was well above average....really should be a 4 star in my mind! Lots of great cafes around the corner in the surrounding neighborhood. I highly recommend the Hotel Du Pantheon to any Paris visitor......you will be charmed!

Top Local Tips for Paris

Use the Metro (if you are not disabled!) Paris is not as compact as some of the guide books make out. If you are on limited time, the Metro is a very efficient way to get around. It does not take very long to get the hang of the layout and runs from 0530 to 0030. the three day pass we used is valid on the Metro, buses and trains. Our experience with dud tickets was not unique. If you have a problem, take them to any station ticket office and they will change them. Most stations we used did not look wheelchair friendly!

jardin des plantes From the hotel Du Pantheon you can walk easily to the jardin des plantes, a beautiful park with a small zoo and a great museum dedicated to animal diversity and evolution. Strongly recommended

Take a trip down the Seine Make a boat trip down The Seine [lasts about an hour] one of your first activities. It helps you to orientate yourself to many of the major attractions and shows you how elegant Paris is.
