Excellent location, good rooms

I stayed here for three nights in the beginning of June 08. I found the rooms very good (there were 2 of us in different rooms), clean and comfortable, apparently newly decorated. The staff was helpful and friendly - spoke English and German. The area was safe and well policed, apparently having been 'cleaned up' since I lived in Paris in the mid 1970s. Very good value for money.

Staff spoke English and was ... sort of polite. Whole hotel and our room was clean and quiet. (Room no 318 facing not on the street but on the back yard). Bedding was changed every day. You have to pay 2.5 euro per person for shower. They placed for some stupid reason a bidet inside the room, which caused a slight stench in the room, but opening the window tackled that problem.

The hotel is situated perfectly, it`s clean, they are friendly, the reservation and payment was no problem and it is cheap. But the room (Nr. 432) was slanting so that you thought you are on a boat and the grand lit could have a new mattress once in a while.

The hotel was quaint, and really well priced. It was clean, the staff were helpful and luckily spoke fantastic English! The building was old and charming and the area was amazing! Food scents floated on the air around the hotel and were everywhere, and really cheap! The sex shops and 'flamboyant' women in the area made us laugh! But it really wasn't a problem. It was within easy walking distance of so many tourist attractions, the place was loaded with unusual and unique shops, great eateries and even a Starbucks close at hand! I would happily plan to go back, tho this time I would get a room with a shower as we got one without, and it was 2 euros 50 for a shower! :-)

Staff was impolite, bed had hair inside, and all the hotel smell bad cause it is upon a kebab shop (to avoid absolutely). For 35€ I expect at least that bed was clean.

I really found it better than expected for this price. Nice staff, nice breakfast, very clean rooms although small, but it is a nice old building owned by a family. The place is excellent to go on foot to Louvre, beside is Centre George Pompidou and Les Halles. I would definitely return for the price. Very calm (no noise heard from the street).

I had a internet booking confirmation but hotel manager refused and not even returned my money. Manager was behaving like I have done some mistake by booking that useless hotel.

Stayed at la Vallee for four nights in February a few years ago for a wedding anniversary long week-end in February. Picked hotel out of Rough Guide and didn't regret it. Arrived very late, i.e. past midnight from airport & no problem to hotel at all - most welcoming. They even looked after our luggage on the day of our departure while we "did" another section of Paris & ordered us a taxi to get to CdG to fly home. O.K. there's no restaurant but in this locality who needs one? Breakfast was continental, i.e. adequate leaving one room for a good lunch but kick starting the body & mind for the day ahead, and the room was clean and, as indicated by another contributor, smell free! Be prepared for a climb to your room though - on personal experience pack two small bags rather than one big one! Would we stay again? Can't wait! Oh and the welcoming host was willing to put up with our limited French and more than happy to speak English. The local night life? Colorful yes, threatening no - my wife even went out on her own one night for a walk around and came back saying that not once did she feel threatened. Do try it but not when we want to book a room!

What do you expect for this price?

We were also surprised to find ourselves surrounded by sex shops, but in fact it was no problem at all. Within easy walking distance from the Louvre we felt it was a bargain. The linen was clean and it was quiet and we had hot & cold water in the room! I think anyone expecting more for this price is fooling themselves.

Expect what you pay for hotel de la vallee. first, we worried about the fact, that there is the sex-scene around rue Saint Denis, what was no problem at all, no bad experiences with that. our room was on the 5. (and last) floor without elevator, which caused some problems in the evening for getting up all levels, but the room was quiet, windows were with sight of a inner court. Be aware of the extra beds, i could not sleep any night, they are converted closets or what ever with very thiny mattresses.
After all, paris is a very expensive town, the room for 25 euro per person (we were 3) is almost ok and the location at les halles is good for going everywhere in paris and around. Our room smelled not that bad like the US couple writes below. We had new towels every day (not usual in all low star hotels). It has one star and that's it!

Top Local Tips for Paris

Rue Saint-Claire If you're a couple or female, stay the hell away from this place! If you're really unlucky with women, I'm sure somebody will oblige for the right price. If you're young, drunk, male and bulletproof...this place will sober you up fast.
