Love the Monge
from A TripAdvisor Memberthe best
from A TripAdvisor MemberBetter than I expected
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe hotel lies less than a 100-feet from a rather neatly hidden Metro stop (7-line) and close to another easily accessible Metro stop (10-line). The woman who runs the hotel is nice, if not a little shy.
There is a small supermarket just down the street (Champion), ATM across the street, and Rue Monge and the streets branching from it house some quite servicable cafes, bakeries and pastry shops. I can't think of why the hotel would now be 2-stars instead of 3. It's not a luxury hotel, but it's much better than servicable. I'd go back.
PS- If you want a larger balcony request a room on the 2nd or 5th floors.
Adequate
from A TripAdvisor MemberSecond visit was reserved two months in advance. Upon arrival the room was not available and we had to wait three hours for the room to become available. Nothing offered for our inconvenience. Two wake-up calls not delivered: again, nothing but an excuse. Hotel two doors away, Hotel des Arenes, has a higher rating and a lower rate. Rooms are larger. I will not go back to Hotel Monge. Two visits was enough to put me off.
Hotel des Arenes will be my next choice.
Good value in not bad location
from sofeacNice People
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe owner was lovely and always helpful. The location is teriffic if you like convience, good pasties and a cheap (reasonable price) it is a good place to stay.
If you try to speak French they try to help. I always asked questions in French and almost always got English responses. I guess my NY accent was a dead give-away.
Ask the owner of they have taken a vaction yet. i believe it has been 16 years or so.
Great value and wonderful small hotel
from lparker2The room was small, but had a lovely view of the amphitheatre below. It was great to have the refigerator in the room for the afternoon snacks and drinks! The staff was friendly and were extremely helpful in pointing us around to wonderful local restaurants and cafes. If you want a very fancy hotel, this is not going to satisfy you. But, if you want a clean, updated, in a fabulous location on the west bank, and looking for a great value, this is your hotel. The staff was great before we arrived, as everything was made via the internet and email. I am planning a trip with my Mom and neice this spring and will be returning to this place! There is no other way to have a hotel room in paris, especially if you are looking to NOT spend a fortune on a room you will hardly be in.
Pleasant Hotel and a Great Value
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe hotel is extremely well maintained and very clean. The rooms are adequate in size, quiet and nicely furnished. Julie, the owner, is somewhat reserved, but proved very helpful. The hotel's location is terrific - three metro stations are close, and Notre Dame is also within walking distance. A number of good, inexpensive restaurants are a short walk south (try Sud-Ouest), and several upscale restaurants a within a couple blocks towards the river. In light of the advantages, the hotel is a great bargain. Even the substantial breakfast and the minibar are inexpensive. For the benefit of the reviewer who gave one star, the remote control turns on best by hitting a number rather than the power button.
Highly recommend - Friendly

Jardin des plantes posto eccellente per una passeggiata, il giardino è bellissimo e ottimamente curato. Interessante il Museo di Storia Naturale.
Eifel Tower sparkle we didn't realise, but the Eifel Tower sparkles with fairy lights every hour on the hour for 10 minutes in the evening - we liked it so much we went back twice!
The best deals... ...are in midwinter for hotels and flights. Weather usually isn't bad--in the '40s and '50s but liable to be overcast or drizzly. The eateries and other services are less rushed and crowded, the staffs quite pleasant and the experience is generally very positive. But do try and speak French. If you don't do it well most Parisians will be able to switch to English if you keep the conversation simple snf basic. But try French first. After all, it's their country and language.

Staff was extremely rude and twin beds are tiny (only 1.30m x 1,90m).
Breakfast and location are good!
