We had a wonderful time in Paris and the Holiday Inn St. Germain was a great choice for a hotel. The hotel is close to the metro, but we prefer to walk to museums, restuarants, and other attractions whenever possible, and we were able to do so from this hotel location. We have recently traveled to Vienna, London, and Paris, and this hotel was by far the nicest in its price range of any place we stayed. We would definitely stay there again when we return to Paris.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Holiday Inn Paris Saint Germain des Pres Hotel

We checked into this hotel for our 25th anniversary trip to Paris. Lobby was quite small and busy at check-in. When we got to our room, we observed that it was quite "run down" with stains on carpet and wallpaper peeling from the wall. This room was really showing some "wear & tear". The room was quite small and only one window which when opened (or closed) was the noisiest we've ever heard. We immediately went back to the front desk and inquired about another room including any upgrade which we would be glad to pay for. We were told that there were no more rooms available. We immediately checked out of this hotel. We were originally booked in for five nights. They would not give us a refund of the first night (since they said we used the room), but did give us a refund for the four remaining nights.

Not a bad place to stay

My room was basic but clean. The bed was big and firm but the shower head was placed in an odd location (right in the middle of the shower) and it was a bit cumbersome taking a shower because the tub was so small. Other than that, the room wasn't too bad for the price. Check their site for promotional rates or sign up to get email notifications when they have sales. I could have gotten my room for 72 euros a nite but that was before I booked my room for 102. The only bad thing about the hotel was their front desk. I waited an hour for a taxi that the girl at the front desk was supposed to have called for me but forgot.

Wonderful Hotel to explore Paris!

This was a wondeful hotel located in an excellent area in Paris. Halfway between Montparnasse and St Germain quarters. It was close to the metro (2 mins) and only about 20 minute walk to Notre Dame.
Our room was quite large (for european standards) and it was very clean upon arrival and each day. The hotel staff were very pleasant and extremely helpful. They had excellent recommendations for dinner and the area.

We stayed there 3 nights in October 2004 and would defiently stay here again for our next visit to Paris. We booked the room through Holiday Inn's website more than 3 days in advance and had a significant reduction on the advertised price at the hotel.

This is definitely a hotel worth considering for your trip to Paris.

Saint German Des Pres Holiday Inn

I just spent 4 days in Paris at the Holiday Inn, Allthough the hotel sits in a very good spot I would not return. As I am a frequent traveler this has to be the noisiest hotel I have ever been to, inside and outside. Also the beds & pillows where very uncomfortable which made it even harder to get some sleep. If you are looking for a lot of people and traffic this is the spot other wise look elsewhere. Staff where helpfull at times but also would not give me a 2hr extended stay. Breakfast was also terrible at 14 Euro which they only got me once. Numerous cafes around the area where you can get a good meal but plan on paying big bucks expecially after the dollar exchange rates which was terrible. I spent part of 1 day on a double decker bus for 25 Euro which went to all of the major sites and got plenty of photos. If you go give it a try.

This hotel is situated in a wonderful neighborhood. As noted in prior reviews, there are 2 Metro stops are conveniently located. Nice cafes with friendly staff are mere steps from the hotel. You can walk to Luxembourg Gardens and St. Sulpice. For shoppers there is the Bon Marche just a few blocks up the street. There is also an H&M on Rue de Rennes that is VERY popular. This is not in a heavy tourist area (which was nice) so you were able to get a feel for the city life of a Parisian. The room was always clean. Yes it is small compared to American hotel rooms, but this is Europe and you should expect it prior to coming over. We had 2 adults and a four-year old in the room. The bed is great for jumping on. There is a fridge, a TV (watch out for the adult channels if you have kids), AC and an open bathroom with a shower/tub. The entire staff was tremendous. Always gracious and helpful. Always willing to take that extra moment of time to make sure we were satisfied with whatever was offered. Nearly the entire staff spoke both French and English. I would stay here again, absolutely.

Good Base to Explore Paris

Good base from which to explore Paris.
2 different metro line stations within 5 minutes walk from hotel.
Quiet location, friendly and helpful staff, nice bar area.
Didn't eat at hotel - menu rather limited.

Just a couple of gripes:

1) We booked a combined flight/hotel deal through Expedia, and as a result, I think we were given just about the smallest room in the hotel. That may just be my paranoia, of course.

2) As well as being small, the room was fairly modestly furnished for a 4* Hotel, and there were stains on the carpet.

3) Booking through Expedia, we got a fairly good deal. However, the standard rate for the room we stayed in was, if my memory serves me correctly, as high as 210 Euros in peak season. If I had booked direct with the hotel, and been given the same room at this price of 210 Euros, I would be more than a little disappointed.............

Enjoyed our stay

Stayed for 5 days this month and were quite pleased. Rooms not large by North American standards but quite adequate . A/C worked well and a room safe was provided. Would certainly not hesitate to return

Alright but overcharged.

from A TripAdvisor Member
Hotel was clean, easy to find, with nice area near underground stations. However overcharged us for our last night there when they overbooked and moved us to an executive suite. We had booked it with some girl who worked there who said we would pay our previous rate as well..however they charged us 220 euro and when we confronted them about it and showed them her signature and our confirmation number they said they would talk to her the next day and to call them. So we did and they said they would check and email us back. Never happened. Very disappointing.

Great! Pleasant stay.

from Cammiecat
A friend and I are overseas with the military and took a weekend trip to Paris. This hotel is in a great location, just a block from the Metro and there are restaurants and shops just a few doors away. The room was small but clean and quiet. Comfy beds and nice shower...lousy pillows! The hotel staff spoke English well and were extremely polite and helpful. Make sure you determine if breakfast is included in your rate (it isn't with all rates). We thought it was included, but apparently we were wrong and were charged 14 euros each. Breakfast is good, however, with a wide selection. USA today and several other papers in the lobby each morning, CNN in English on the TV. I'd definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others.

Great Hotel

This hotel is located in a convenient area and close to the Metro 4 line stop St. Placide. It is not even one block away. In addition, Gare Montparnasse which is a main train station is within walking distance. We ordered room service every morning but had to ask for more forms because the maid doesn't leave them after the first night. When you specify time on the form 6:30 - 7:00 they bring your breakfast at 6:30 they weren't late the entire 7 days we were there. Breakfast consisted on croissant, hard roll, sugar bread, chocolate croissant, a fruit, yogurt, orange juice, coffee and milk and cheese and jellys. My husband and I ate everymorning - it was $14Euro a day but for both we didn't think it was too bad and room service at that. Maid service was ok, bartender is very funny and other people we met there were very nice. It is mostly english speaking people who stay there after all it is a Holiday Inn. The rooms were clean - not perfect but certainly ok. The rooms are small but comfortable. The front desk staff were all very nice and you can log onto the internet for a $5.00 euro flat fee in there "office center" which is just a room left of the front desk. They had english newspapers to read and for tv all you get is BCC or CNN. Parents be warned that they do not block the adult films on the tv so don't let your youngster flip channels by themselves or they will get an eyeful. The hotel is surrounded by patisseres & brassieries but real food is about two blocks away in Montparnasse which is the main drag. This hotel was very quiet but centrally located. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a clean and comfortable hotel.
