Historical Traveller Reviews of Holiday Inn Paris-Gare de L'Est Hotel
Nice hotel - Bad location
from np8byThe hotel itself it very nice, lovely room, nicely decoated in a warm colour scheme. The bathroom was nice too.. it was clean and big (although could have been better).
The hotel it not near the center of Paris and if i was travelling to see the sites of Paris this hotel is not in the best of locations. You would need to get a taxi into central Paris. The location itself is not a nice area with not much to do. In the evening there are lots of young people hanging about and the area is not safe.
Plently of places to eat around there, except if your a veg like me it a massive probelm! I found a pizza place in the end.
All in all a nice hotel for a business traveller.
Perfect Deal
from EurogapI have to say that this hotel is probably the best deal ever in paris. Its quite perfect located at the "Gare de L`est" and the Metro Station is not even 10m away from the entrence of the Hotel !
There are 3 Metro lines leaving/arriving in "Gare de L`est" wich means you can go EVERYWHERE very easy !
The rooms are quite simple, but theres all you need ! Service is perfect and the staff is VERY friendly !
Im so happy to stayed there, the price is extremly FAIR for what you get, and the fact to live on "Garede L`est" is might the best, cause you are everywhere in minutes......
Will definately stay there again if i visit paris next time !
Perfectly adequate
from StepballchangeIf you don't want to pay 14 euros for the breakfast (especially those that don't eat that much), there is a great Tex-Mex restaurant next door to the hotel where you can have coffee and croissants (the evening meals are good too!)
Good value for money (for Paris), clean, pleasant, nothing to complain about!
a little run down
from HisFussinessDon't get a room by the lift as they play incredibly irritating music in the lift area 24/7 which would drive anyone insane. Breakfast was interesting as it is a buffet but they said I should sit down and they would serve me, but as that took ages I served myself, and then they brought me another breakfast on a tray. I asked for fried eggs and after 5 minutes they asked if scambled eggs were Ok as fried eggs were off, and I said no, and 5 minutes later I got fried eggs.
In summary: helpful, if confused, staff, but too run down to be worthy of the Mercure brand name.
Good Tourist Hotel
from rthomasmkeGood Value in a Pricey City
from LPamelaASo, So Hotel
from Pennsylvania1The hotel name has just been upgraded by Accor to the Mercure-brand which is supposed to be upscale from the Libertel brand.
I reserved an Executive room on the Accor website at a rate of 160 Euros for Wed/Thur and 140 Euros for Fri/Sat/Sun, not including breakfast for which they wanted 14 Euros/person.
The room on the north side facing the Gare de l'Est (which I requested) was small, slightly shabby, and certainly wasn't what I considered an exec room. Apparently the exec rooms have a mini bar. It certainly didn't look like the rooms in the brochure that we picked up when we were in Paris in November 2003.
It can be a little noisy on the north side since several of the RATP buses have their starting point across the street and they left their engines idling to keep the buses heated due to the cold weather when we were there.
The location is convenient and a 5 minute walk or one Metro stop from Gare du Nord which is the Thalys/Eurostar station.
t worry about the location
from Roe-BearDon't have misgivings about Terminus Est and its location if it meets your other criteria. As another review noted, the entrance to the Gare de l'Est metro station is literally at the front door: just go right about 20 feet, and you're at the top of the stairs. (But if you're arriving on the metro with luggage, follow the signs into the SNCF Gare de l'Est: there are escalators all the way, and then you can just carry things across the street to the hotel)
Fantastic deal for the price
from A TripAdvisor MemberLoved the Libertel Terminus Est
from A TripAdvisor MemberI plan to stay at this hotel again with my husband and son this coming summer.
Top Local Tips for Paris
Disneyland If you are planning a trip to Disney land, it might be helpful to know that (imho) it was more like Butlins than Disney, and the Studio park really does not offer enough for a whole day visit
Paris/transport/sightseeing Trains are great, Euro1.40 for single trip which can take you from one end of Paris train line to the other or buy a travelcard. Excellent quick service. take the city tour buses as you get 4 different trips in one but be aware of the terrible traffic congestion ( worse then here and I live in London!! ) Eifeel tower is bust whatever time of day you go, tried first during the day and was advised 1 1/2 hour wait as coach trips were there, so went back at 9pm and was still an hour wait. You can go up Arc de Triomphe which is good howwver best thing was going upto the 56th floor of building in Montparnasse ( enclosed panoramic view ) and on 59th floor non enclosed roof top view. Better than traipsing and waiting for the Eifeel tower went satraight up there and got a view of everything!
EUROSTAR GREAT travelling option
