I got to the hotel on a Thursday night. I had done my booking through www.lastminute.com one month in advance, but apparently the hotel didn't receive my booking and they didn't have a room for me. Although they finally managed to sort it out, I was treated with rudeness by the receptionist, who shouted at me and asked me to leave the hotel, since the fact that he didn't have a room was not his fault. I must say, though, that his attitude changed from rudeness to servilism when he finally confirmed my booking.

Overall, I was quite satisfied. Room was small, but perfectly adequate. Pretty good location - a block away from the metro. Was generally quiet. Very good breakfast, but they didn't go out of their way to tell us that it wasn't included in the price of the room.

Top Local Tips for Paris

Barrio Latino Check out this Salsa-inspired restaurant/club. Make a reservation for dinner (great set menus), admire Gustav Eiffel's building and then head down to the bar for some cocktails and dancing (dance to chart and salsa music, with the locals). Great night out. Within walking distance from good budget hotel (2*) - Grand Hotel Novel Opera on Avenue Ledru Rollin.

Buy a Paris Visite Pass you can chose how many days you want this - it will enable you to catch all metro trains for the period you chose. It also comes with a voucher booklet that might be helpful. Metro is the best way to get around Paris

Metro Easy to get arond by Metro/RER. Easy to understand the system. But Carnets (pack of 10 tickets for 11.10) if you plan to ride much.Take a boat trip at night at the Seine, 9 Euros per person. You book it from the hotel. THis does NOT include dinner. Dinner included = 95 Euros per person.
