Not the best budget hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from a five night stay at this hotel. The location is great, about five blocks from the Eiffel tower and two blocks from a metro station. Located on a charming pedestrian street with wonderful bakeries and an excellent cafe, Cafe Marche. Our double bed room in the back corner was quiet, warm and fairly clean, but very dark and super small, too small. I agree that the staff is cordial (read previous review above), but nothing out of their way. I think your budget dollar could best be spent at another hotel.

The Leveque is a great place for a family

from PlainsTraveler
We travelled to Paris over the long Thanksgiving weekend with our 7 year old son and found the Grand Hotel Leveque a perfect place to stay for 5 nights. We had a tripple room on the third floor over looking the rue Cler in the 7th arrondissement. Our room was clean, spacious enough, with comfortable beds and a clean and bright private bath featuring a tile shower and hairdryer. The room had a safe, satelite TV with two English language channels (CNN / SKY), ceiling fan and air conditioning. The hotel also has an ice machine in the lobby! The furnishings were plain and showed wear, but still adequate. We had little problem with street noise and only the last night a noisy neighbor. The rue Cler is a delightful street and a highlight of our trip. The cobble stoned street is traffic free allowing the shops to overflow onto the sidewalks. There are flower shops, bakeries, butcher shops, as well as chocolate, wine, and cheese shops, along with restaurants, a bank and post office. We particularly enjoyed the Dennis Auvray Bakery (45 rue Cler) where we purchased baguettes, pastries, and sanwiches. The Ecole Militaire metro stop is only two blocks away, and the hotel is located between the Eiffel Tower and Invalides.

USA meets Paris~Leveque Style

In reading several travel books, watching travel videos, and reading the reviews on tripadvisor, I decided upon this little hotel. If your desire is for the true Paris experience; the market, the cobblestone street, the view of the Eiffel Tower as you enter the nearby main streets...this hotel is for you. My father stayed in a room above the cheese shop, while I stayed in a seperate room. His was dimly lit and seemed to need a new coat of paint. Mine was bright and cheery. Other reviews are correct, eat breakfast elsewhere for 1Euro more you can get a full course breakfast up the street to the right (in a Pub). The reception staff was very kind. The bathrooms are equipped with power showers in all white ceramic tiles, it glistens! The carpets on the floors in the rooms above me and down the hall were being cleaned. The rooms are small from our standpoint, but let's face it, an entire family lives (quite happily) in the flats of Europe, why should we think otherwise! For those who are in need, it includes a one person lift (elevator). This is truly a Parisian Gem!!

Oui Oui Oui!

from Todd83
I stayed 8 fantastic nights here recently... everything everyone says is true, even the bad stuff about no nightlife and the singing maid at 6am, but somehow this adds to the charm and overall you couldnt get a better location or price in Paris. I had a room on the back side but there was no bad smells or anything like that. If youve got a lot of bags like I did its best to get a the Air France buses from Orly or CDG Airports to Invalides (7.50 euros) and then a taxi (5-6 euros); the hotel offers a shuttle service but it is quite pricey. Dont have the breakfast either, there are plenty of great places on Rue Cler that charge less and offer better food. But stop dreaming about it and come!!!

lovely street

comfortable, not expensive, true french style, easy shopping, very close to Eiffel tower,as a whole,we like it very much, and would like to stay again when we visit Paris again.(Unless we get very rich, maybe we would consider another more expensive hotel.)

t always listen to Rick

The hotel is OK. The desk is cordial, the rooms are clean, but very small and the beds comfy. The Rue Cler is great market street, but when the market closes the neighborhood is dead. I should have stayed in Saint Germain where it is lively, busy overrun with restaurants, coffee shops.etc. My husbandand I are Senior citizens,so we are not necessarily looking for vibrant nightlife-but some nightlife would have been welcome. Our problem with the location was that it required changes on the metro for everything we wanted to see and for people who have been to Paris, we know you can walk miles and climb mountains for each change. That took its toll on us

Great value for your money

Finding an adequate hotel for a fair price in Paris can be a daunting task, but the Grand Hotel Leveque met all of our needs. For starters, you couldn't ask for a better location. It's away from the tourist traps, in the heart of a busy market street that buzzes with locals shopping for cheese, pastries, seafood, etc. each morning. There is no mistaking you are in Paris! Also, it's very near the Ecole Militaire metro stop, so you never have to walk too far to catch a train. The reception desk is open 24 hours a day, and the staff speaks English, so communication was never a problem. We never tried the breakfast because there is a fantastic boulangerie right down the street where you can get a pain au chocolat or an almond croissant for a lot cheaper than 7 euro and save your money for other things. The lighting in our room was dim, which is to be expected in Europe I guess, and the water pressure wasn't that great, but the room was clean and we got fresh towels every morning. We had a great view of rue Cler from our streetside room. It cost a bit more than the rooms facing courtside--not sure if it was worth the extra money or not, since pretty much the only time we spent in our room was to shower or sleep.Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to sleep someplace clean, safe and in a good location, but is traveling on a budget and doesn't require a whole lot of other fancy amenities.

Our first trip to Paris

from A TripAdvisor Member
The heat wave was on in September of 2003 , but the rooms had small, but large enough air conditioners to cool them off but not freeze you out. Easy walk to the Eiffle Tower . We stayed 4 days and would return to stay again here. Good english spoken also.

Smelly Room Singing Maids not so quaint at 6am

from Lisaomay
We had a bad experience here. Our room overlooked a cement courtyard obviously where the garbage is deposited and boy did it stink. We had to open the windows because the room was overheated. We were not able to procure another room as the hotel was booked. The staff was unhelpful and pretended not to be able to understand me (english) at convenient (for them) times. The overall location was fair, the location on this particular street fun and my husband was beside himself with excitement over the ice machine which is unheard of in Paris. I wouldn't stay here again unless in a pinch. Not a good value for the dollar and not a very good overall location.

Top Local Tips for Paris

Carry-out Food and beverages and Save Those Euros! Travelers in Europe often underestimate how much higher prices can be for meals served at a table so ask the cost for take away or carry-out instead. In March 2007 I bought a Belgian waffle topped with ice cream for 2 Euros; the price for table service was 5 Euros. This is also true for beverages with prices often 50% less or even more for carryout.

Getting around Get a multi-day metro pass and a Batobus ticket if you like getting around by boat

geting around use the batobus daily ticket for 11 euros, great value
