Exceptional Case .....

We remained in this hotel from 29/12/2007-03/01/2008.the room was small as all in paris, but with satisfactory space, with separate bathroom and wc. Our room was the 504, it 'saw' behind, so it was very quiet, and you could see the sky,as it was at fifth floor. We can say that it is hotel, with amazing location.(30 m from clyny metro station and 5 min from notre dame).We would recommend it to everyone !!!

This small and comfortable hotel was more than we expected. Well priced, great Latin quarter location and loaded with European ambiance. Short on restaurant area our continental breakfast was delivered to our room at the time of our choice. Lovely! Front desk staff were always very helpful.

We were in Europe for a 3 week honeymoon, and our final hotel was the Suez.

Our stay here was .......... average.

Positives:

Location - the location was perfect, along rue St. Michel a short walk from the Metro, Luxembourg Gardens, Notre Dame, the Seine - lots of restaurants, etc in area

Price - very reasonable price at 110 euros a night

Room - good size overlooking rue St Michel - large doors open up on julien balcony allowing great view and fresh air

Negatives:

Room - was very dated and bland, and the towels and bedding looked 25 years old - refurbishing the rooms and adding new towels, bed linens/pillows would make a dramatic improvement

Breakfast - every hotel during our 3 week trip provided free breakfast - at Suez, it was 5 euros a day for breakfast which only included 1 croissant, 1 roll, and coffee.. that's it! even at the inexpensive 2 star Hotel Italia in Rome, we had a free breakfast with fruit cocktail, cheese spread, pizza, cereal, unlimited crossants, juice... the breakfast here was disappointing - we ended up buying croissants from a local bakery for less than 1 euro each instead

In summary, the location was great, the price was great, the room was okay.. if they refurbished the room a bit, updated the bedding/pillows and towels and improved the breakfast everything would be perfect.

I'd give the hotel 3 stars out of 5. We'd probably stay somewhere else next time.

Lacked charm and noisy.

Stayed for 3 nights in Sept 2005. Have stayed previously at Hotel Excelsior in LQ. The location of this place is fantastic. Very close to subway and RER so easy to get to from the airport (CDG).

The room was fine. Bathroom was a little outdated, but manageable. TV, no a/c or fan.

The biggest detractor was the noise. People have complained about it at the front of the hotel on the Boulevard Saint Michel, but we were at the back of the hotel. Unfortunately and Irish pub is situated below that makes a good amount of noise until 2am. Also the view from the back lacks charm. I opened the window in the morning to see a bum curled up in the doorway opposite.

You must go to Maubert square one stop away (you can easily walk) and go to the fromagery. Brilliant. Take some cheese and wine and sit on the Seine overlooking Notre Dame.

Would probably not go back, will try and experience a different hotel next time.

I stayed here from Christmas Day to New Year's Eve 2004. 6 nights in total. I had booked a single room but, upon arrival, found that to be too small for my liking. After looking at several rooms, I settled for a double room facing the blvd, and was thoroughly happy with my room and moreover, my whole experience at this charming hotel. My room (on the top level) was just perfect: a comfortable bed, little shelves to put personal bits and pieces on, a tv, I could use my laptop through the phoneline, very clean bathroom with ample hot water, a separate toilet, and a little hallway entrance. It felt like a tiny apartment rather than a standard hotel room. Best of all was the little balcony and the beautiful view (photo attached) - waking up to the view in the morning over the delicious cafe au lait and rolls with jam (which I highly recommend - it was 4 Euros and was very good value - if you love coffee, this is great quality and comes in a jug which makes 2 large cups - you can also opt for hot chocolate or tea) was such a treat as was taking in the view every night. Apart from the room, the people were wonderful - I travelled alone so my nightly chats with the staff were highlights of my stay. I felt that the staff made an extra effort with me because I was alone. For example, on my first night I was looking for a particular cinema. One of the men on the desk who was finishing his shift actually walked me to the cinema. I regard myself as fussy when it comes to hotels but I cannot say a bad word about this hotel. I am already looking forward to my return visit.

We were recommended to stay at the Suez by a friend. While the hotel is cute and ideally located we have an exceptionally noisy room located directly on the Blvd. with a bus stop right under our bedroom! I asked
to be moved several times but to no avail. I even used ear plugs and I still didn't get much sleep. In addition, it was very warm so we had to have the doors open due to the heat. There was a small fan in the room but it didn't provide much relief. I would probably not stay here again mainly because it is located on such a busy street. There were several other hotels within walking distance that were located on a pedestrain only alleyways. So the next time we will stay there and not at the Suez.

Wonderful place to stay

We have stayed in Hotel de Suez for 3 days in June 2005. It is a great place to stay. Triple room was very spacious and reasonably priced for this location - 130 euros per day. I can not think of anything negative to say. Not that I would want to, it was clean and in walking distance to Sorbonne, Latin Quarter, Luxembourg Gardens, St. Germaine, Notre Dame. Stuff was very professional, courteous and English speaking. Being on the 5th floor, it had a great view of the street without being too noisy. Frankly, I would not spend time looking for other place to stay in Paris next time.

I stayed at the Hotel de Suez with my uncle in May for 12 days. When we arrived in our room we were pleasantly surprised to find it rather spacious and well kept. The rooms were cleaned everyday and we never ran into any problems with house-keeping. The room we had had two beds, three nightstands, a small table, two chairs, and an armoire. For two people the room was very big. The bathroom was nice, roomy, and clean but be ready for a different kind of shower experience. Because of the age of the building, the shower is somewhat different. There is no curtain, and the shower head is solely handheld. The staff was fluent in English and very friendly and helpful with directions and suggestions of where to eat and what to see. The continental breakfast is a bargain for 4 euros, most restaurants cost 7-9 euros for the same thing. With your choice of drink, you also receive two pieces of hard bread and two croissants. The hotels location is superb conveniently located near bus and metro stops and some of the major sites in Paris. The lively Latin Quarter which the hotel is located in offers many unique experiences. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Paris.

This was my second visit to Paris from upstate New York, USA. First time at the Hotel de Suez. The hotel is centrally located to everything. The bus stops out in front every 3 minutes and the Metro is 1/2 block away. The hotel is very clean, good size rooms with a shower, and the staff was extremely helpful. I would definately stay there again.

Visited Hotel de Suez in May 2005 for 2 nights. Great hotel with very friendly staff. While our room was a little on the small side, it was clean and cozy. I have heard that small rooms are the norm in Paris anyways, so this was to be expected. The hotel has a fantastic location, close to Notre Dame and a whole bunch of cafes and restaurants. The hotel seemed very safe and secure and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was clean and fresh, no bad smells or anything like that and the shower and toilet were modern and clean. The bathroom even had a hairdrier attached to the wall. Unfortunately our room overlooked a small area between the buildings, not the greatest view, but the room was very quiet and when I booked the hotel was almost full so I can't complain. Towels were changed during the day and the bed was made.

Very satisfied, excellen't value for money!

This is an excellent place to stay in Paris for several reasons. First, the location can't be beat for proximity to restaurants, nightlife, Metro, RER, strolling, people watching and historic sightseeing. One literally steps out onto the boulevard St. Michel and is assured that whatever direction is taken will be full of adventure. The hotel is located in the most bohemian (read less than glamorous) section of the Latin Quarter, but an easy walk across the street toward the bd. St. Germain or a left out the hotel door toward the Jardin du Luxembourg will remedy that. If you choose to take a right out of the hotel, you will head toward Notre Dame and can choose a side street that will take you through a maze of narrow streets throbbing with tourists and entertaining restaurants.
I would characterize the hotel as "ship shape." I stayed in a twin bed room overlooking the blvd. St. Michel as was my request. The tiny room had just enough storage room with two small closets and a large shelf close to the ceiling to store empty luggage. The bathroom had new fixtures and a wonderfully complex shower system with ample hot water. Everything was sparkling clean every day. The heated towel rack came in handy when used to expedite overnight drying of the the inevitable lingerie rinse outs. The linens were fresh and silky. The towels, changed daily, were adequate and more were provided if requested. The floor to ceiling french windows opened to a tiny balcony where I could watch the activity of the boulevard from 4 floors up.
The staff at the hotel were exemplary. From the first "bonjour" the last "au revoir," they were helpful and courteous. Martine was especially gracious with recommendations to le restaurant, la boulangerie, and even a pedicure salon! The maid who delivered our breakfast every morning was a delight. We worked on our French and the staff worked on their English with us.
Security at the hotel was good: our room was equipped with a deadbolt and the door to the boulevard was locked after dark and opened manually by staff when we pressed the buzzer on the street.
As you can tell, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone interested in a true Parisian experience at a relatively modest cost.

Top Local Tips for Paris

ask for common bus routes don't be afraid of the public buses. Your hotel front desk will happily reccommend some common routes and departure times. Busses are much faster and more convenient than the metor (which isn't exactly bad itself...)

Great restaurant for those staying near Boulevard St Michel On the Rue Racine look for the Bouillon Racine - with the really cool art deco interior. Have the creme brulee on a waffle for dessert. Awesome.

Buy your Orange Card to get around Great public transportation i.e., subways, metro, busses. Get your orange card at the beginning of the week and a good map and you are good to go on your own. Beautiful city and very easy to get around.
