Great hotel; rude staff

This is a beautiful hotel (especially if you love pink as I do!!!). However the woman who was working the day shift on reception was very rude and hardly ever smiled. Also, the breakfast buffet is a bit stingy with pastries as only a certain number are allocated per table. Lastly, the apples on the pillows seemed very old and tired as though they had been used and reused time and time again. I will still probably stay here again though as the location was very convenient and felt quite safe; and the "look" of the hotel was so lovely.
Accomodating hotel in a great location

We found the majority of the staff very friendly and helpful when required, but therein lies the only complaint. When greeted, the staff member on the desk informed us that our breakfast was included in the bill, thus we took advantage of it every morning. Only when we came to checking-out did we discover it had been charged to us. No amount of discussion would change the gentleman working at the time, very rude and inconsiderate given that I was suffering from food poisoning (not from the hotel I add!). Other than that the hotel was ideal for us enjoying a mid-week break in the romantic city. The decor and piped music is fitting and relaxing, and the bar the ideal place for a pre or post evening drink (best between 5-7 for happy hour!). Despite what happened I would recommend it.
Very upscale hotel in a decent area

The hotel was very nice. Sort of reminded me of the W in SF. It was modern. The ceilings were kind of low. The breakfast was great and complimentary as far as I recall. The staff was nice. They were really nice to me because I speak French, which was nice to be able to speak French with them. Sometimes in Paris people seem to insist on speaking ENGLISH only. I basically had a good experience. I was there with my 4 year old daughter and the guy downstairs was very helpful, giving her hot cocoa at 2 a.m. when she could not sleep. My husband is French and I decided that an adventure in Paris would be nice prior to meeting up with his family. I thought the hotel was a bit far from some main tourist attractions, but then when I was taking a taxi to the train station I noticed it was a lot closer than I thought. It took a car to make me see just how close it was. The hotel was not too big or too small. Had a bigger than a boutiquey hotel feel, yet had a smaller than the Marriot feel.

A great choice for people like me tired of the BIG HOTEL. Le General is close to everything, nice, modern and confortable, great for those who couldn't live without a nice breakfast, I warmly recomend this place, I am returning myself whenever I am in Paris.

Top Local Tips for Paris

Photography stores on Beaumarchais Just east of Le Marais, north of Place de la Bastille, is a street of marvellous camera shops, with shelves groaning with all manner of vintage and new cameras. The prices are somewhat steep, but if you like cameras, it's a fun place to browse and maybe find a bargain. If not a bargain, if you are looking for a spare part, an out-of-production accessory or just curious to see the classics you've only read about, then a few hours browsing these stores is well worth your while. Word of warning - most of the shops shut for lunch and all day Sunday and Monday.

Where to stay in Paris General advice would be to stay in the St Germain de Pres area, lots of hotels, bars, restaurants, shops etc....its central and you have easy access to various metros....i didnt stay in this area when i went to paris, but trust me...IT IS THE PLACE TO BE!

Bars & restaurants I would recommend going to hemmingways bar in the Ritz for one cocktail! Pricey but well worth it plus they give you loads of nibbles :-) For a meal we would deffinatley recommend "Aux Lyonnais".
