Historical Traveller Reviews of Familia Hotel

Clean rooms, friendly staff, great value, 2 blocks from Metro station!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from a wonderful 2 week vacation in France and Italy. We stayed in Hotel Familia for 2 nights when we arrived in Paris, and 1 night as we were leaving Paris. For the money the hotel was excellent. The room was small, nicely decorated and clean with a hair dryer in the bathroom and tv in the room. We had a small balcony with a view of Notre Dame. Every staff member at the desk was very friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was a typical continental breakfast. Location was great. We walked to Notre Dame and the Metro stop is Cardinal Lemoine - 2 block walk. The neighborhood was safe. There is an ATM and post office at the corner. I found this hotel using this website and I'm glad I trusted the people who gave it an excellent rating!

Fantastic Hotel

from SUEZ
Stayed at Familia Hotel in July 2004. Very easy to find with handy and secure car park. Very good location within walking distance to sights. A few minutes to the river and plenty of restaurants. We stayed in a room with balcony, it was a little on the smallish size but it was clean and quirky. Friendly and helpful staff, although give breakfast a miss. Would definitely visit again.

Small but quaint

from A TripAdvisor Member
We thoroughly enjoyed our 5-night stay at the Familia in early June 2004. Our room was on the top floor on the street side. We left our window open every evening; very comfortable without air conditioning. While it was a bit noisy on the weekends, during the week it was quiet. After our busy days, we slept through most of it anyway. Notre Dame is a short walk away, and we quickly were able to navigate anywhere in Paris from the metro station a few blocks away. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We were able to extend our stay one night at their sister hotel, Hotel Minerve, next door. While the room was small, we never felt cramped - and I had a very large suitcase. I would definitely stay here again, although if you can get the room without breakfast, do so. Some days we left the room very early, before breakfast was served.

Great Location but noisy

from ackart
We stayed here June 2004 and found this hotel to be very comfortable and convienent. There is no air cond so if you are going in the summer I might reconsider. Because it is SO noisy with the windows open to stay cool. Trucks go by very early in the morning . They had clean rooms with comfy beds and nice bathroon. The breakfast was good and handy but just your usual OJ coffee, croissant, jelly and roll. This was close to Notre Dame and the river. Front desk was friendly and helpful. A very close internet location one block away.

You can do better

Good location, but the room was dirty and there was no air conditioning— a problem during the muggy late June of '03. Drunks tended to hang out in the small park across the way, shouting "vive la France" in the wee hours. Close your window and sweat or leave it open to enjoy the late night entertainment? You have lots of choices at the Familia . . . During our stay, a friend recommended the Hotel Monge (nearby), so we switched and enjoyed one quiet, cool night before catching a train to Switzerland.

Latin Quarter Familia hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Hotel was adequate but the Latin Quarter is not nearly as nice as St Germain des pres. Would not stay there again. Balcony was very nice at Hotel. Breakfast was "Fair". Do yourself a favor and walk to a Boulangerie and buy your own baguette and Pan au Chocolate instead. Coffee was also "fair" at Hotel. Unacceptable for Paris standards. Room was 113 Euro/night. For another couple of Euro, stay in a nicer area.

all-around good value

from ElizaJ
My husband and I stayed here in 11/03 and while the room was a bit small we really enjoyed it. The staff was very friendly, the room was clean, and the location was in walking distance to great restaurants & shops but in a quiet section. Great value!

pleasant stay at la familia

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at La Familia from 5/2-5/8. Pleasant and helpful staff. we loved Edson ! He provided great suggestions for French resturants. The ladies that provide the continent breakfast every morning, also clean the rooms. So you do become very familiar with everyone. We used the Metro at all times which is only two blocks from the hotel. Bakeries, wine stores , pharmacies, resturants all within walking distance. Did I mention Notra Dame is approx 8 blocks away. La Familia is a small hotel but that's what makes it great. Rooms are small, but 3 of us fit. Be careful when you step out of the shower. They only have half shower screens with big deep tubs. So it is a bit inconvenient if you shower. If you like to take a bath, enjoy!

Great find

from tyke123
This hotel is a great find, excellent location, near to some of the Paris landmarks and metro just 2 minutes walk to the ones further afield. Great room very clean and lovely balcony where you can watch the world go by. The Latin Quarter is a lovely part of Paris and has some excellent restaurants. But avoid Alexis-Daniel around the corner from hotel, we sat down and before we ordered a mouse ran under the table. But all in all a fab trip.

A very nice hotel....

from Sandduneone
I stayed at this hotel after reading the good reports on Tripadvisor. I was not disappointed, and agree with most of the complimentary comments by others. Great location, within walking distance of many of Paris landmarks, and of course the Latin Quarter and St Germain have a special bustling atmosphere. Bear in mind that this is a 2 star hotel albeit a very good one. I was recommended by the staff to visit a restaurant approx 5 minutes walk, great food, small portions! I would stay at this hotel again.

Top Local Tips for Paris

When to go and getting around November was a great month to travel to Paris. There are a lot fewer people so the lines are much shorter. Take a warm coat and gloves and a hat. A MUST HAVE is good walking shoes. They are a life saver.

Metro The Metro works fine. Study the Metro guide/map.

The effiel Tower Use the lift, we walked as I thought it would be easy, the first floor was okay the stairs to the second floor nearly killed me, totally exhausted but the views were worth it. Make sure you go to the top!
