Nice and comfortable...cute kitty!
from A TripAdvisor MemberStaff was friendly. The process of dropping off/picking up your room key each time you leave/enter is a bit odd, but has a nice old school feel. There was a kitty curled up in a basket almost every time i passed the front desk.
Rooms were comfortable and clean, and i enjoyed the mini-balcony (seems most rooms have a balcony).
The breakfast is NOT included in the room price, and for 10 euros, it is better to eat out at the numerous options around in the latin quarter.
central!
from A TripAdvisor MemberNice kitten at reception too!
Nice hotel, great location
from docdiamondThe pictures of the rooms on their web site are pretty accurate. The rooms are clean, and are fairly roomy by European standards. Breakfast is not included. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and their English is very good.
But I do have one VERY major complaint. The local drunk stands out in front of the hotel EVERY night and yells in French. I don't speak French, so I don't know what he is saying. After a while, the police pick him up, but sometimes it is very late at night by the time they take him away.
Anyhow, we do recommend the hotel. Over all, we were very satified with our experience.
Helpful Staff
from A TripAdvisor MemberPerfect location with easy access to the Metro and RER. An internet business was just 2 blocks away. The Latin Quarter is such a fun place to stay because of the eating choices and close proximity to museums and historical sites.
I would definitely stay there again.
Nice and a good price for the heart of touristville
from A TripAdvisor MemberBe honest!
from A TripAdvisor MemberAfter many e-mails reminding them of the problem, they haven't done anything up to now, not even answered the mails.
Maybe the convenience is important, but the service of this business tells its spirit.
The Best Ever.
from A TripAdvisor MemberIf you want this location, recommended!
from SantaFeUserThis is the place to stay to really enjoy Paris.
from A TripAdvisor MemberSip wine outside on the street and watch the world go by and that is Paris. This is easily done from this hotel. It was great and I can not write enough about this place.
In the heart of Paris
from A TripAdvisor MemberHow much time will you loose coming and going to the 'hide away' location hotel? I saw the poor sods dragging bags for blocks over cobble stone streets. It made me appreciate the convenience of location.
The Hotel Europe Saint Severin is conveniently located at the outlet of metro station Ste. Michel Notre Dame. Use the stairway for Ste Michel Place and you walk one half block and turn left 1/2 block you are there.
The hotel is 1 stop from Austerlitz station so is an easy jump from the fast TGV trains or 5 metro stops from Paris Nord Station. You can take train from airports to Australitz so you have easy access.
Located in the Latin Quarter the hotel offers great location and a clean room (I even got special help in the bathroom as I thought it need a bit of attention). The room is small but very cozy. Two channels of English language broadcasting gives you CNN and BBC, more than enough of the problems of the world to drive you to the street below. Looking out the window early in the morning would make you easily imagine sitting in same spot 2-300 years earlier. The windows are double glazed so noise from outside is eliminated, combined with 900mm thick walls you can sleep in relative silence.
The review about the shower being small must have been done by a fairly robust person as the enclosure is large enough for amorous activity (it is Paris!). The walls of the room are padded in a soft cloth so the overall effect is a bit gaudi, but adds to the charm.
The fifth and second floors have balconies and the majority of the rooms overlook the street, so a room with a view is not hard to find. I suggest you ask when booking. I used tobook, which only confirms the booking and takes no payment, which is actually done by the hotel at the hotel upon checkout. Very civilized and about 30% cheaper than other on line bookings I could find. They have a specials section for the hotel so you might get lucky and get lower rate.
The hotel does have an elevator and the rooms are air-conditioned and heated by room controlled reverse cycle units. I found opening the full length French windows a great way to adjust the temperature and the noise from the street below drifted up to make the moment even more unique.
Desk people were mostly friendly and preferred I tried to communicate in my own tongue rather than use some bizarre conglomeration I had put together to communicate. If you speak English, speak English. The people at the desk are intelligent.
Downside is the advertised broadband in the hotel is not in every room, but there are wireless hotspots within a few blocks. There is a net cafe about one and a half blocks away.
Conclusions: Good value and convenient. In Paris you are a tourist, if you want to be in a local neighborhood then take a bus or metro. If you want to be in quintensensual Paris, then the Latin Quarter is great and the Hotel Europe Saint Severin fits the model of a 'true' Paris experience.
Top Local Tips for Paris
Excellent little restaurant in St.germain area For a great, relaxed, romantic dining experience go to Rotisserie d'en Face, 2 rue christine, 75006 paris. Super food and service. Not cheap, but worthwhile.
local convenience mart and pharmacy shopping! Don't think you have to ever go inside the overpriced tourist-trap souvenir shops! My favorite purchases are the coffee, tea, chocolate, etc I bought at the local 'super market' (more ,like a U.S. convenience store). Not sure if I was supposed to bring this stuff back (?customs didn't say anything) but I am enjoying delicious daily reminders of my trip Packs of snacks & chocolate made for kids school lunches are a hit with my kids - fun to look at the ingredients and marketing pitch in another language (fun for classmates and teachers at school, too!) Coiffure magazine (en francais of course) for my hair stylist, liquid soap and lotion for my neighbor friends, cheap (relatively) Mustela baby products for nephews, etc. were all good buys.
What to do on your 10th++ trip Try Fontainebleau - it is less crowded that Versailles in the summer, takes 30 minutes from Gare de Lyon. If you are more adventurous, Chantilly is accesible by train too
