Three star hotel - one star attitude!

I have stayed in hotels in at least 15 or 20 countries, including two other hotels in Paris, but I have never come across such a condescending hotel staff. The night manager was a real jerk. We checked out two nights too early just so that we wouldn't have to put up with him.

Helpful Staff, Close to everything!!

from LindaRan
OK, the rooms were very small, but where aren't they in France?! The front desk was extremely helpful and informative, the breakfast was excellent, hot & delicious. The room was clean and the veiw was more than I could have hoped for! Would absolutly stay again!!

Excellent value for money

Star ratings on French hotels are possible as accurate as the metro in Paris during strikes. That's why sites like this are priceless. I have stayed in four-star hotels in Paris that in my taste only should have two and certainly have paid more than the double doing so. This three star hotel could be a four-star.
I stayed in a comfort double room on the 5th floor. Newly renovated, very fresh bathroom and with a balcony with a partial view of the Eiffel Tower (for full view go for the superior rooms) and Les Invalides. Yes the room is not enormous, but I have never found the need to put up a tent next to the bed. The staff was extremely nice and helpful and all spoke very good English (nice staff in Paris hotels is not something your spoiled with). In terms of location this is a great area. Not too touristy, a little posh and close to everything. I booked through Hotelclub and got a really attractive price.

Good location and excellent value for money

from Dobby
We had one of the larger front rooms which was airconditioned and large enough for 2 adults and a five year old. The room was immaculate with seperate toilet and bathrooms (not all rooms have this, it's just a quirk of the floor layout). Two full size french windows overlooked the street below. Street noise was acceptable and only got a bit much during morning and afternoon peaks. Breakfast was adequate but a bit on the slow side, depending on which staff were on. Overall, the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Location is very good, 15 mins walk from the Eiffel tower, 5 mins walk from Metro station and loads of good restaurants and cafes. Can recommend Bistro B on Avenue Bosquet for the best fillet steak I've ever eaten.

Perfect Hotel for an Affordable Price.....

We stayed at the Duquesne Eiffel hotel for one week and loved it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. My only criticism was the room service. They didn't adequately replenish towels, cups and some of the basics.

But other than that it was a great little quaint location. NO PETS ALLOWED IN THIS HOTEL...Good affordable local restaurants...In walking distances of Invalides, the Effiel, Musee de la Marine, Palais de Chaillot, local shops and the metro.

If you're American do not expect big rooms, their rooms are very small even by economy hotels standard in the States. Enjoy Paris wherever you decide to stay.

Just OK

from Jenn65
My family stayed at the Duquesne for 4 nights - we used 3 rooms on the 4th floor. I am really torn as to my review of this small hotel. On the one hand, the place was extremely clean and in a great location. Close to the Eiffel Tour and des Invalides - many small cafes and markets. We enjoyed walking around the hotel neighborhood very much. The desk staff spoke English well and was helpful with directions, taxis and advise. BUT - I found the rooms very small with horrible, shabby sheets and towels. Twice we had to request towels and even toilet paper! The maids rarely replenished items like plastic cups, wash clothes and the honor bar. Also - the hotel is poor on service. We gave them a small amount of laundry that was promised back to us by 8pm. At 10pm we called the front desk to inquire and were told that we would have to come down and get it ourselves. I know this is a small 3 star hotel - and perhaps we expected too much - but I will try to step up to a better service hotel in the future.

Great view

from tizbensinj
I wanted a great view and I got it. The room was somewhat shabby but, I wanted to view. The bed and linens were a little worn. The hotel itself was clean and staff very helpful.
The hotel is close to Rue Cler. Metro two blocks by great outdoor cafe. Another good restuarant located behind the hotel about a block in front of Invalides. All walking distance. We only had the breakfast in room once. It was nothing spectacular. Also 11 euros per person for bread and coffee. So we chose to eat elsewhere. Since there are so many choices within a short walk or metro ride.
We were on the 4th floor in a superior room. It was good size with windows that opened. The room had air conditioning. The bath was a little strange. The toilet was in what I can only conclude was a former closet. The tub and sink in another room on the other side of the entrance. Nothing wrong just odd arrangement. The carpet like the linens are worn. Only gave us one washcloth per day. Overall a good bargain for the price. And the view was exceptional. I reserved ahead and asked for eiffel view. There were no problems and the hotel staff was responsive to my e-mails prior to arrival. I would stay here again and would recommend this hotel.

Nice hotel in Paris for the right price

from jdf3361
I spent 3 nights, with two rooms, at the Duequesne Eiffel. The location of the hotel is excellent - close to metro, Invilades, Eiffel Tower. There are many local bistros, sidewalk cafes within a 2-3 block radius. The area was safe and walking the neighborhood at midnight did not seem uncomfortable at all. Pricing was in the $200/night range which I found very reasonable in Paris. The smaller of the two rooms is SMALL. The larger of the two rooms was adequate and typical for a large city hotel. The hotel was spotlessly clean, in excellent state of repair. The front desk spoke English, was always helpful and added to the pleasure of staying here. If you don't want to drop a fortune on lodging in Paris, this is genuinely a nice hotel to park for a few days.

loved the french people

from lindagettins
been back home four days. we had a fab time in paris, it was our first time. hotel DUQUESNE EIFFEL was brilliant. we booked a superior room could not have been better positioned. room 35, it had two windows, one to the main road the other faced the eiffel tower. WOH,what a site on a night time all lit up and sparkling. the rooms where very comfortable with a king size bed, tv,mini bar (which at first thought was expensive but then realised all paris was) all of the drinks in the mini bar was well known brands. the bathroom & toilets were very clean, lovely white towels every day. the only thing i would pick on (and this is really being picky) there was no tea & coffee facilites in the room this would have made it perfect. in there defense i did e-mail them and ask this and was informed i could ask for hot water at any time.
there is one other thing, when we arrived i asked which one of the 2 rooms i booked was the non smoking room, the receptionist said smoke in either room. if i had gotten a room which people had been smoking in this would have ruined my holiday i think the management of the duquesne eiffel need to put this problem right or there is no point in advertising non smoking rooms. this apart we had a fab time and would definently go back to this hotel.

Everything was perfect

The Duquesne was a perfect place for us. The view was spectacular, rooms comfortable/clean, breakfast (complete with eggs, ham, cereals and assorted pastries) more than expected. The front desk was kind and helpful, especially for a lost suitcase. This trip was for my daughter's sixteenth birthday and she loved it. Only two blocks to metro and five minutes walk to Eiffel Tower.

Excellent!!!Fantastic view,decoration,service and location

from PatyMc
Of all the things we loved about Paris one of them was this Hotel, absolutly wonderful!!! The secret is not to book a standard room (that are very small) but the the next room category that just cost few more Euros and gives you an espectacular view of the Eiffel tower!!!

The decoration was elegant and charming, and one thing that really got our atention were the maids ...they are so sweet!!! when they bring you breakfast in the room (coffe and crossaints for us) they entered the room smiling and greeting us with the sweetest french accent "bon jour madam" and if you talk to them they seem so happy just to help you in any thing you need!!

Also the reception staff were very nice and helpful answering all of our questions and giving us great sugestions, and another thing that got our atention was that one of the ladies at the reception (We forgot her name!!! but she was from the Island Mauritius) one day that my husband was sitting at the lobby reading, she noticed he was coughing and inmediatly she went to the restaurant downstairs and got him a tea!!! he was shoked!! that was not just great service, that was like being at home!!! not common at all to find such sweet people in one place!!

So this hotel is not just about Great location (just minutes walking to the Eiffel tower, tour busses, and the Invalides and just 6 Euros Taxi ride from the Champs Elisses) is not just that this Hotel is so nice that is even incluided in "The Guide of the most charming hotels in Paris", is not just the beautiful and spectacular views of the Eiffel tower from the superior rooms, is about it's people, it about it's service..the one thing you can't see in pictures but that counts more to really enjoy a place! ...and we really enjoyed Paris!!! and part of this was staying at this hotel!!!!!!

Top Local Tips for Paris

Driving and Street Signs I have never been to Paris before. My first word of advice - unless you are a professional driver or a lunatic in general, DO NOT PLAN TO DRIVE IN PARIS. While I was surprised by the unwavering friendliness of residents when I asked for directions (about 20 times), the drivers are maniacal, to say the very least. And it took me about two hours to figure out where their street signs are. The signs are tiny, bronze-ish squares located high up on the sides of buildings. Compared to US street signs they are tiny, dark, and hard to locate or read unless your vision is 20/20. We had a tour of Paris scheduled, which was cancelled the day before we left (warning: BritainShrinkers), so we decided we'd try to get around on our own. I had not prepared a route and did not know anything about the layout of the city. That experience caused a lot of fear, anxiety, and tears - things that I didn't want to experience on my first trip to Paris.

tower at night most travellers go up the eiffel tower during the day, at night the queue is not very big (if there's one at all) and it's much more romantic.
