Big mistake. Incompetency at its worstfrom A TripAdvisor Member
On the day itself, after waiting for 1 hour for our room to be cleaned, we finally were able to occupy our room. When we got to our ground floor room (007), we thought it was a bit hot comparing it to the temperature in the lobby and the hallway leading to the room. I went back to the Hotel Manager and asked if the room is airconditioned. His response was "all the rooms are non-airconditioned. We can provide you with electric fans". We dismissed this at first as probably a hot Paris afternoon & took his word that all the rooms are non-airconditioned. After sightseeing in what was a nippy afternoon, we retired to our room at about 9pm. For 2 hours, our kids couldn't sleep as our room became an oven even with a fan. I complained to the night duty manager and requested that we be transfered to an airconditioned room and all he could tell me was all the rooms are the same -- no airconditioning AND he also said, "this is Paris weather in June, what do you expect?"
As a business traveler who travels 4 days in a week, I've come to realize that one has to be pushy (sometimes) and not take things at face value. I insisted that because of the location of the room at the corner of a courtyard, there was no ventilation. His response was "I don't believe you". I volunteered to show him my room, but he instead sent his night clerk. The night clerk confirmed that the room was indeed unusually hotter than the hallway leading to the room. There was a huge difference in temperature. (this is speculating, but there is probably a heater or furnace located near the room). Upon hearing his clerk's comment, the duty manager said there were no rooms available. I asked him to check. He did and said there were only 2 rooms available, but they are to be occupied the next morning. I asked him if we can transfer to one of the rooms as we learned that one is facing the street. It's ok for us to deal with the noise as long as there is ventilation. He said no right away without contemplating on my request. What irked me more was when he said, "Besides, you've touched your bed". I blew my top upon hearing this. I asked him to clarify. He said, if he allows us to transfer at that point in time (midnight), he would have to have the room cleaned in time for the next guest. I told him that it's his responsibility to have the room cleaned at 8am. Besides, I waited 1 hour to get my room. Why is his treatment of the other guest different. I asked how much that customer is going to pay, I was told 115 Euros. I was paying Euro 150 per night for a supposedly airconditioned room with breakfast. He conceded to show me one of the "vacant" rooms (room 508). I was accompanied by the night clerk to check out the replacement room. Upon reaching the room, we soon found out that there was a guest inside. That got me into a shouting match with this incompentent duty manager. I told him that all he knows is to say no and he didn't even bother to double check if the replacement room was indeed vacant. For 10 minutes, there was a shouting match. The only way for me to shut him up was to threaten him/the hotel with a lawsuit for misrepresentation. By then, I had with me the confirmation from my corporate travel agency a room description that was provided by the hotel. I told him to put on record my request for a room transfer. The next day, we went to the reception. We made the request follow-up with a lady guest relations officer and she said we will be given an airconditioned room. At that point, my wife and I looked at each other in disbelief. I told her that the Hotel Manager the previous morning told us that all the rooms are non-airconditioned. With a face of disbelief as well, she said that was not true. There are airconditioned rooms. At that time, the Hotel Manager appeared after overhearing our conversation. He said that yes, it is true, he told me that all the rooms are non-airconditioned. (this was in broken english, by the way). The reason he gave for this is the fact that they don't want guests to request for airconditioned rooms as they were limited. This is a clear case of bait-and-switch. They claim that no requests were made for an airconditioned room, but the problem is, I have their room description confirmation. To top it all of, upon checking out, we were asked if we had taken breakfast, and we answered in the affirmative. We were told that that would cost 13 euros each, but considering the bad experience we had on our first night, they'll waive that charge. I said that the 150 euros INCLUDED breakfast. It was in their email confirmation to me. She said that's not true.
This hotel was a BIG mistake. Whenever it comes to finding hotels that are "diamonds in the rough", one has to manage expectations, but this hotel was way below what I expected. AVOID!!!

I will definitely go back againfrom A TripAdvisor Member
If you want to get cheap bottled water nearby, try a small grocery shop near Rue St Honore (and a block to the right of the hotel; sorry, we don't know the street name....but if you are coming out of the Tuleries Metro, you can see this small street directly in front of you when facing Rue de Rivoli). You can get 1.5L water here at 80cents/btl compared to Eur2.50 else where. It's open everyday EXCEPT Mondays.
Good location but very tiredfrom A TripAdvisor Member
The staff are quite friendly and the breakfast adequate. The main problem with this hotel is it is in DIRE need of refurbishment. Wallpaper coming off all the walls. The bedspreads and curtains are also tired and faded. No tea or coffee making facilities or bag storage area in room. Bathroom clean and functional. NO AIRCON but equipped with central heating.
Given that there are so many other hotels close we would not stay here again.

Charming Hotel in Great Locationfrom A TripAdvisor Member
Next door is a great Irish pub & restaurant named "Carr's" that is run by lovely people, has a warm atmosphere, and serves delicious French food.
One final comment -- people have asked us about anti-American sentiment in France. The French people that we encountered were friendly and gracious, and frequently quite charming! We felt warmly welcomed.

Great Location, Good Valuefrom A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel is on a small side street in an area that is near lots of shopping and many first-rate hotels. From the Duminy Vendome, its an easy walk to the Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, Opera and the Tuileries Gardens. The metro line #1 is just around the corner and gives you access to the rest of Paris.
The rooms are not very big, but they are clean and in good condition.
Our room overlooked a small courtyard in the center of the hotel and was pretty quiet. It had a full shower/tub, hairdryer, desk, television and a small closet. There was no alarm clock, so you might want to bring one.
The breakfast buffet was included as part of our package and it provided a quick and easy way to eat, then get out and see Paris. It included eggs, bacon, ham, cheese, pastrys, yogurt, cereal, juice and coffee. Breakfast is served downstairs in a casual, comfortable room that used to be a wine cellar.
All of the staff members that we met were very friendly. Everyone at the front desk spoke English well and they were more than happy to assist in any way possible. (find a restaurant, call and make reservations, set you up on a tour, give you directions, etc.)
If you're looking for a small hotel that's clean, budget-oriented and in a central location, I'd recommend the Duminy Vendome.
Top Local Tips for Paris
Chartier restaurant Our two guidebooks we brought with us recommended going here despite being full of touists for the experience: the room, inexpensive traditional French cuisine and ambience. We had a ball at our table with Brits, Itialians, Germans and French couples.
Use the Metro Central Paris is easy to get around on foot, but the Metro is cheap, clean and fast. Save your shoe leather, use the Metro.
lose to everthing wear good waljing shoes as the hotel is close walking ditances to everything
