from A TripAdvisor MemberGreat Price, Great Location
from A TripAdvisor Memberchanging yet changeless
from timsmith1963as previously mentioned by other contributors , michelle is a charm , so friendly and helpful and a mind of useful information without being too over the top , rather unlike the surly gentlemen who checked us in on arrival. i don't know , maybe i had a note on my head saying ' i have stayed here before ' but he seemed very reluctant to point out the lift or anything really. still i knew anyway. despite the paris equivalent of basil faulty the hotel is very nice indeed , it is in a cracking location near to the ecole militaire metro and just a medium stroll to the tower. there are lots of cafes , restaurants and shops nearby plus a patisserie that has fare to die for. thats all i am saying , you will find it if you look!
they do seem to have down graded the breakfast a little since my last visit and while it is still nice , gone is the ham and eggs and individual glass pots of jam and replaced by those rather clinical plastic sachets instead.
there isn't much in the way viewing in english on the TVs in the room but show me the person that goes to paris to watch TV and shall show you a very sad person.
overall this is good little hotel , in a superb location in a real borough of paris with lots of atmosphere and charm. i will go back because the pluses really outweigh the negatives
But for Michele
from travelbarbFine hotel, great location
from kekocowanCool view from hotel balcony just watch your head going out!!
from joviscotInstead of windows, we had french windows which opened up and a wee balcony. If you looked to your right, there was the Eiffel Tower. (see photo attached). It was taken at night on my phone camera.
The room was small and the bed had a dip in it on hubbys side!! So he had a sore back all through our stay!!
The hotel was very close to the Eiffel Tower - about a 5-10 minute walk to the tower and lots of lovely places to eat close by. Nelsons Tomb was round the back of the hotel - another 5-10 minute walk. Tube stations were close by too.
Not sure about staying there again, but hubby liked the location and price!!
Derby Eiffel Tower
from MartyDLdisappointing and charmless
from tsktskIf you don't speak any French and are looking for a completely "American" hotel experience, this hotel might make sense. If you are looking for any hint of Parisian charm and/or hospitality, I would say stay away from the Derby Eiffel.
Convenient and reasonable priced
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe Exterior
The hotel exterior was quaint and inviting-quite small really. The area was safe and not crowded. Finding it was not difficult as it is really just 10-15 walking minutes from the Eiffel Tower right in front of the Military Ecole. There were restaurants, grocery store and eateries within walking distance so you have choices. Wear comfortable shoes!!!Parking is free (if you can find one in front of the hotel on weekends (My husband spent 30 minutes lost trying to figure out streets and parking areas after checking in). Pls note that the metro is right around the corner from the hotel-so if you can save yourself the hassle of driving in Paris-do so!
The Interior
During our weekend stay, the bar area was being remodeled as was a part of the hallway. The elevator did not look inviting because it was sooo small. The ever friendly receptionist welcomed us in warmly into the small lounge. She allowed me to check on two rooms to see which one I would prefer since we were there early and not many had checked in. So, I got a chance to see 1 of the 4 rooms just outside, past the lift and bar-in their own closed in courtyard area. The one I saw had a full size bed, and nicely remodeled his/her showers. The outside though was more like a cheap motel look. The other one I saw was up the narrow stairs which were in serious need of paint and repair. This bedroom had 2 twin size beds and a CLEAN bathroom. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the room-but that was it. We went with the latter choice because it had somewhat of a view of the tower. The bathroom was quite modern and fully stocked with all the toiletries you could need for two people, with the exception of toothpaste. The shower was very small-almost cruise-ship like-but sufficient.
Food
Since we stayed Sat to Sun we were invited to the 12 Euro per person brunch buffet-but we opted for the McD's near Notre Dame-which offered more than enough in their brunch menu for 5 Euros per person. Although the receptionist was nice, I don't know that I'd want to eat there with all the other choices around.
Overall, the hotel served its purpose-it was merely a decent place to shower and sleep. It was inexpensive, and close to the Eiffel Tower, and most importantly the metro.
Recommendations:
-Study city map of Paris before arriving (receptionist has them on hand if you need one when you get there)
-Wear comfortable shoes for walking
-Ask questions-the staff (Michelle) is quite willing to help
-Shop around if you are staying longer than 2 nights
Great Location - Michelle was fantastic!
from A TripAdvisor MemberTop Local Tips for Paris
Watch out for Beggers They 'find' a wedding ring on the floor and try to give you it. Do NOT accept it as they will chase you down the street wanting money!
River Seine Boat Trips Recommend doing one of the boat trips along the Seine to see the sights in comfort with commentary - a good way to plan what museums, etc you want to go and visit if you have a longer stay or, if this is only a short stay like ours was, its a good way of seeing all the sights in one go!
Eiffel Tower Take your wine, cheese and biscuits and sit in the Champs de Mars at the bottom of the Eiffel Tower to enjoy the evening turning to night - fantastic view of the Tower.
