Top Local Tips for Paris
Must-do's It's very easy to get to this hotel by public transportation - not worth taking a cab. Take the RER blue line to St Michel (17 euro for two people) and walk a few blocks (5-10 minute walk) up St Michel away from the river. The hotel is on the lefthand side. The nightly concert at Ste-Chapelle is definitely worth the 25 euro pp. The music was excellent and the ambiance unbeatable! Also, Notre Dame is an absolute must...look for the headless saint on the left archway as you enter the cathedral.
Paris Visite card (Metro & RER) Do not buy a multi day travel card at the airport, wait until you get down town where you can buy one with less zones, it will save you quite a bit of money
Avoiding Aggressive Panhandlers Learn to say an emphatic "No" with a French accent. Don't make eye contact and don't give them time to get into your personal space or touch you. Just walk away--don't worry about being "rude" in that way. We had read about the guys at Sacre Coeur that want to tie string bracelets on your hand, but the "Do you speak English?" ladies in long skirts were new to us. There were a lot of homeless people in Paris, but they didn't bother us or harass us. But there were lots of people with tricks or questions who will try to approach you and they are not always honest; just be aware and don't look lost!
