Great staff & location

Have stayed here twice and been treated very well both times. Comfortable beds, some furniture a bit shabby. Staff friendly & helpful. Was being redecorated last time I was there. Love the neighborhood, feel very at home there.

Great room, staff

We wanted affordable, would fit 4 (we are a family w kids), great location, and we only needed nice/decent place.
Claude Bernard exceeded that expectation; our family room (3rd floor) was great; very large, 2 balconies, just over 200 euros/night. I was surprised by how nice and helpful the staff was (Paul esp). They pointed out 2 great nearby restaurants, gave taxi advice, etc.
Its a classic Paris hotel; that is, small elevator, on the street, no grand lobby, etc. That's ok w us; we wanted a great room (got that), price (great) and nice location (1 block to metro, and 1 block to great set of cheese/wine/meat markets (great for afternoon wine and cheese).
And I read some of the bad reviews and took the "risk"....i would totally discount those bad reviews...seem fictional to me, or from people expecting to stay in the Topeka Marriott (some plain modern american joint)
By the way, the bakery across the street has the very best pastries we've ever had.

We stayed at hotel Claude Bernard, last summer.
It was perfect. We really enjoyed this small charm hotel. Rooms are nice, clean, well decorated and with good view.
Staff is very helpful. And location is very good.

Dirty, rude and not worth it...

Off the bat, the management is rude beyond belief. The first room we got- apparently the best view- top floor, corner with view of Notre Dame- was so dirty, I was disgusted to have to stay in it the one night before we switched rooms. The sink was clogged and covered with a brownish grey film of gunk. The bedspread had dried blood stains on it- I can safely say as a woman, I know it was THAT time of blood stain, if you catch my drift. When we told the manager, he passed it off as brown ink. Ink! No apologies, just excuses. They moved us to another room immediately after refusing to let us switch hotels which we wanted to do, but they insisted we had to stay for the 3 nights booked. The next room on the first floor was bigger and brighter, but again seemed dirty- like you'd want to wear flip flops in the shower.
This place is gross. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Hotel D'Angleterre instead--or even the Saint Jacques was nicer.

You can't find a better deal in Paris than the inexpensive but comfortable Claude Bernard. The location is awesome--a five minute walk to Notre Dame, 20 minute walk to the Louvre, 45 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower. I didn't even bother using the metro since walking allowed me to experience so much of the city. With it's location on the left bank, the hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens and the gothic church St. Severin. It is one block from the Sorbonne and the Medievel Museum, and a 20 minute walk from Montmarte Cemetery, where dozens of famous writers and artists are buried. While the carpeting is a bit shabby, the staff is polite and helpful and our triple room extremely spacious for a budge hotel. I will go back next time I'm in Paris!

The location is wonderful, the staff friendly and helpful, the rooms clean. Perhaps the negative reviews are from people who don't understand a 3-star hotel. This is where I stay when not renting an apartment in Paris. People to whom I've recommended it love it also and have returned.

My friend, her son and daughter stayed Claude Bernard for 4 days from 30th March and had a lovely time there.
At first , they kindly offered every breakfast when I booked.
The room I booked for them was,"Blue family room" whose photo was in their site. My friend
says it was the very lovely big room Max for 5 persons.
They also says to me that Paul and staff are all very kind to them, the environment around the hotel is very good and safety.
I asked Paul about the trasportation from CDG bacause this is the first trip to Paris for them and I had no idea by RER or TAXI. He recommended TAXI. SO friends was able to get to there safety.
Paul, I'm sure to book you again next time.

Stayed at Claude Bernard in April of 2004. The Location was great. Two blks from the Sorbonne and the Cluny Museum.
Three blks from Notre Dame and the Seine. Rm. 63 on top floor looked out over the street. Lots of activity near the university and Rue St Michel. Enjoyed the neighborhood. Staff was helpful and room clean. 111E

Its now shabby and not too clean. The shower curtain had mildew on it. The toilet had problems flushing. The elevator is really, really tiny. I think they charge way too much for what you get, but then I guess that's Paris. I think they could have at least kept it clean for that price! But...the workers were very helpful and friendly! And the location is very nice - quiet at night, but very close to the fun of the latin quarter!

We just returned from a 6 day stay and found this hotel charming and friendly. The room was clean with a lovely new bathroom and tub, and had two huge windows with wrought iron balconies and flower boxes looking out on a lovely street. And you can't beat the location in the Latin Quarter. We could easily walk to many locations such as the Notre Dame, or catch the metro two blocks away. I think what some people call shabby was more like shabby-chic and I loved it. Thank you Paul for your hospitality! We look forward to our next visit to chambre #16.

My friend and I spent 6 nights at this hotel. Given some of the reviews, we were a bit nervous about what we would find on arrival.
Although the stairwell and some of the chairs in the breakfast room could use a bit of freshening, we found our room to be quite clean and spacious. Having two balconies facing the Rue des Ecoles was certainly a perk. We watched Paris come alive each morning and often ended our day out there on them at night. The staff was most helpful, especially if you made an attempt at their language while engaging them in conversation. The location of the hotel could not have been better. All of Paris, seemed to be within walking distance of the front door. Both my friend and I would not hesitate to return to this charming French B & B hotel.

weather Its important that if you go to Paris check the weather check accuweather.com.Its important the is not raining in paris ,otherwise you will suffer from satying in you hotel all day ,if you do it ,try to spend an extra money in hotels with good ammenities .Any way Paris is Paris and w/ a lot of things to do ,better with a nice sunshine weather.
Eiffel Tower I heard you can skip the LONG line if you eat at the restaurant underneath!!!
See the gardens of Versailles when the fountains are running Try to visit the gardens of Versailles on a weekend when the fountains are running and classical music is being played - it is an enchanting experience. I had been to Versailles before and frankly had spent very little time strolling in the gardens - big mistake. There is as much to see outside the Chateau as inside.
