Paris' best kept secret!

This little gem of a hotel, dating back to the 1840'es and tucked away inside one of Paris' famous arcades, offers charm, friendliness and undisturbed sleep away from the noisy boulevard, yet right in the middle of everything. The 4-storey hotel has a variety of rooms, plain but adequate - it is after all only a 2-stay hotel - with nice and very clean facilities. The top-floor rooms (cat. 1) are a bit better/larger and have romantic views over the nearest Paris rooftops. There are also a built-in safe in all rooms. There is of course a lift, and a smallish breakfast-room serving a plain, but decent morning meal (not included) with lots of freshly pressed orange juice to get you going. The rates are very attractive. I have stayed there twice - and not for the last time!

Top Local Tips for Paris

A walk in a dream The so called "passages couvertes", the iron-glass-covered Passages in Paris are splendid and a fine walk at every weather-condition. The Jouffroy, the des Panoramas, the Verdeau, the Véro-Dodat and the more noble ones Colbert and Vivienne: waht an ambient in historic feeling and atmosphere! And nice little shops too! To make ist perfect and much more historic, don't forget the Palais Royal with its collonades and the garden. Quiet, luxurious, romantic and just splendid in its shape. Jean Cocteau lived there - I "envy" him tremendously.

Forget the stereotypes Forget what you have heard about all Parisians being fashionable. And don't make the mistake of trying to dress fashionably at the expense of comfort. Pack your most comfortable shoes, no matter how unattractive they might be. This is a city that requires you to walk and the cobblestones are tough on your feet and ankles. Don't worry. You are anonymous. No one will ever see you again. ---- Also, the French were open and generous. No anti-American sentiments expressed and complete willingness to listen as we stumbled along in a poor hybrid of French and English. There is much warmth in Paris. Don't believe the stereotypes.

Post the flight. 1.Get off the plane - 2. Get the train to the central train station - 3. Then splurge a whole 10-15 bucks to get you to your hotel - I did number 1and 2 without a problem - then I thought I would save a few shekles and hike it to my digs via the metro - wrong move - it took me 3 hours to lump my luggage a grand total (as the crow flies) of 400metres - I reckon I actually covered 4-5km - totally lost in the metro - not a good choice of transport means when one is jet lagged - and you are garaunteed of getting some strange looks from the locals who simply want to get home without the disadvantage of some crazy tourists with bulky luggage blocking their way!! Friendly they might be - but they still look at you with abject pity as you struggle with the intricate details of their metro - trust me just catch a cab as the following morning the metro will seem like child's play - just don't tackle it when tired!!
