After reading mixed reviews of the Hotel Castiglione, we travelled to Paris unsure of what to expect. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a pleasant and friendly gentleman on reception who sorted our room keys and payment out etc immediately. Our room, although typically small, was clean and adequate and the recently refurbished bacthroom was of a decent size. The location of the hotel is very good, situated behing a number of embassies and government buildings and very close to the Place de Concorde, Louvre Museum and the Champs Elysees, all of these were infact within a 5 min walk. The hotel is surrounded by a bevy of up-market designer boutiques which would test even the deepest wallet !! The bar in the hotel is reasonably small and rather expensive, but I suppose you're in Paris after all. Breakfast was surprisingly quite good and the staff in the Breakfast room were very courteous indeed. All-in-all, I enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Castiglione and would probably stay there again in the future. Hope this review helps !!

Knowing this is paris, famous for its overpriced hotels with small rooms and poor service, this hotel aint bad at all, it's clean, staff was friendly and helpfull. breakfast was good, room up to standard and it is very well located.

WE stayed for 2 nights in the Castiglione, and it was enough. The room was like a sauna-turning off the radiators did not help, the air-con didnt work-and this was in the beginning the March, and it was freezing outside.The room was tiny, the bed was tiny and uncomfotable There was stains on the carpet! Not at all like the pictures on the internet. While i understand that they show the best room in their photos, the room was not a four star standard. The reception was quite nice, but I found the staff quite unhelpful. We could not even get an iron. Location was good though.

I booked a trip to paris as a treat for my mother , and afterwards (doh!)
checked the trip-advisor fo a review of the hotel , needless to say I was very nervous after reading the selection of poor reviews . We checked in to the hotel - Location was as good as it gets - 2 mins seine - 5 mins Louvre - heart of the fashon dstrict , the receptionest was friendly & helpfull , the foyer & the room was a big suprise , it is obvious that this hotel has had a makeover as the room was outstanding & obviously very new , great beds , great bathroom, good vista , what more does anybody want?? - check this bargin of a hotel out before the prices go up.

Location, Location, Location

Unfortunately, all I can say about this hotel is the location was great. I stayed here over the Thanksgiving holiday and had the best time, but the hotel cannot take credit for any of my enjoyment. Basically it served its purpose, it had a bed and shower, and we could step out the front door and be able to quickly get anywhere we wanted. But I did not "enjoy" being in my hotel room. Mold covered the ceiling, outlets were falling out of walls, window sills looked like people had taken bites out of them, chairs' upholstery was tattered, no clock, lamp shades were stained and the shower was about 1 sq foot.
We knew we were not going to be staying at a 5 star hotel, but it would have been nice to go back to the room, open the door and feel good about being back to relax before going out for dinner and such. It felt more like an economy motel than a $300 a night place. The lobby was fair, and when we first walked in, I felt great about what we were in for. But I was disappointed when we got to our room. I wouldn't say I hated this place, but I didn't enjoy staying here. I wouldn't stay here again, but it didn't ruin our trip. Our time in our room was limited, so it was bearable. Oh, and the staff couldn't have been nicer!

Having read the reviews on this site, we were apprehensive about the honeymoon reservation we had made with Hotel Castiglione. Needlessly, as it turned out! The interior was very 'Art Deco' in style, dark in colour, but with it's own charm. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they spoke English and were charming. We both came back feeling very relieved and determined to defend the hotel and it's staff from their detractors. We have enjoyed our stay at Hotel Castiglione and it's position in Paris and we would recommend it to anyone.

....having the misfortune of staying in this place. As a frequent traveller all over Europe, this is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Even by Parisian standards, the staff are rude. Comments about the power showers which soak everything within 10 feet through lack of curtains, threadbare beadspreads, original 20s carpets etc are all true. What is more galling is the fact that the staff here really couldn't give a stuff. The breakfast waitress was obviously fed up and whined to her colleague the entire time in the dining room. Yesterday's in-room breakfast arrived at 6:50 rather than 7:30..... the list goes on. I seriously considered checking-in to a friend's house yesterday. Others may like it here, but from what I can make out the other current guests are of the same opinion.

I read these reviews after I booked my trip so I was concerned about this hotel, but was happily surprised. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. The room was bright and airy, full of sunlight. I was pleasantly surprised to find the safe and mini-bar and the bathroom was also nicer than I expected. The location was just fabulous. I would definitely return here again.

Worst nights sleep in the worst 4 star ever!!

We had the misfortune to arrive at this hotel very late in the evening and were shocked at the standard to say the least. We thought that we would try and make the most of it. The bed was so uncomfortable that we hardly slept. I requested a room change the next morning (very politely) without giving a reason so as not to become too critical. The very rude receptionist said all rooms were fully booked. To me the receptionist appeared to have this speech very well rehearsed and did not wish to resolve the situation unless we paid an additional 100 Euro extra per night for an upgrade. We would not pay this as in our room bathroom fittings were falling of the wall, lamps had been broken and glued back together and furniture was not suitable for a charity shop. Although this hotel had been prepaid for all three nights we looked for a hotel in the vicinity and payed for an additional 2 nights in another hotel of which we checked the room first. We found a different hotel and had checked out by 10am .We are now taking this up with the accomodation provider. I wish I had seen the reviews of this hotel before booking.

This was the worst hotel ive ever had the misfortune of staying at. ive read all the other reviews for this hotel and anyone who says its good in any way probably worked there. the bad reviews it got are all true!!!!!!!!!!!!
the staff was rude, the rooms smelled and were smaller than my bathroom. the walls were falling apart. the bed was so small my husband and i were practically sleeping on top of each other.they claim that its a four star hotel,,, yeah maybe 50 years ago. we paid about 200 dollars a night for this ---- hole. the last two night we tried to leave but they wouldn't give us another room or our money back, so we just packed up and moved to the best western right by the eiffel tower. best westerns are know to be the cheapest hotels in america, this best western was like the plaza compared to this ---- hole. i advise anyone that is thinking about staying here don't.. our honeymoon was completly ruined because of the nasty room and horrible treatment we recieved there..

I had already booked this hotel when I read the previous reviews. I will resume our stay the following:
POSITIVE: Excellent location. Near Plaza de La Concorde and Madeleine.
NEGATIVE: POOR SERVICE. On a saturday morning, when there is no commercial activity in the St. Honore St., after waiting 30 min for a taxi cab to pass by, we asked the Desk Clerk to call a taxi cab to take us to the airport. She was very rude, and refused to do it and said that the only thing we could do was to wait till the bell boy could catch one for us, or that we could get to the airport using the Metro (Sure, carrying 5 big bags).
OLD FURNISHING. The hotel needs urgent renovation, but it is clean. Really you can not expect much from european hotels.
Definitely is not a four star hotel. Final recommendation stay away from this hotel, unless you don`t mind to be mistreated.

Great Hotel

After reading some of the reviews on this website I was apprehensive about my holiday because of how bad the reviews of this hotel were. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived and found that it was actually quite nice! Our room, on the second floor, was beautiful. It was immaculately clean and newly decorated with modern furniture in the Art Deco style, plenty of natural light from the big window and at night lots of electric light from the two lamps, overhead fixture and spotlights. The room was provided with a colour television, mini-bar, telephone and air conditioning. The bed was extremely comfortable and we had a great nights sleep - just what we needed after all that sightseeing!

The bathroom was gorgeous, black marble floor tiles, chrome fittings, deep bath, plenty of clean towels, hairdryer, well lit etc.

The hotel itself is packed full of interesting, beautiful (and sometimes odd) furniture, paintings, stained glass windows and fixtures.

The staff are very polite, friendly and efficient.

My only complaint is that the restaurant doesn’t offer much variety when it comes to the menu (a choice of only five main courses) and it was very expensive. Also I went down for breakfast and was unable to find a seat in the small restaurant – you obviously have to get up a bit earlier than 10 am!!

All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel, especially if you love shopping in designer boutiques – the hotel is right in the middle of the shopping district. Also very close to the Champs-Elysees and Arc de Triomphe.

Regular visitor - Unfortunately

I am a business traveler and my employer regularly books myself and my colleagues into this sad excuse of a hotel since it is convenient to our Paris office. Our office has an individual staying at this property at least one night each week and I can say that not one of us has anything positive to say. The rooms are barely clean, the furniture is falling apart and the beds are extremely soft and lumpy with bedding that is threadbare and in desparate need of replacement. Some of the rooms I've stayed in barely even have windows and are so dark that you can develop film inside. The showers are terrible with no curtain, only a hinged glass door that extends only 1/2 the length of the tub if you are fortunate enough to get a room with a tub. The only thing that saves this property from one star is the complimentary breakfast which is actually quite good. Thank goodness I'm reimbursed when I have to stay here but if you are paying your own good money take it from a regular guest - STAY AWAY!

Top Local Tips for Paris

Tickets Buy the equivalent to Londons Travel card in advance. We purchased them over the internet before we went and had the tickets to hand immediatley. They cover bus and metro travel.

A great tip for everyone When you register at your hotel, always take a book of matches or envelope/letterhead with hotel name, address and phone number and keep it on your person. This becomes very handy in an emergency or if there are language barriers.

Charles de Gaulle to hotel Don't get the bus in from Charles de Gaulle, get the train. The bus, by the time it has driven round all the terminals takes about 1 1/2 hours to Opera, then you have to walk to the hotel, at least another 20 minutes. We got from hotel reception to the terminal by train in under an hour.
