average, pay more then you get
from A TripAdvisor MemberYou get a clean (small) room where you can sleep. Which is where most people use the hotel for. If the hotel would have been 40-50 euro cheaper I would have given it top marks but I find 120 euro per night a little bit to much for what you get. And that was a special deal with the 4 night for free. Which made it better, but iam writing this review based on the normal price which is 140 euro per night for a double room.
I have to say I have not been to another hotel in paris recently so I dont know what other hotels offer for less money.
So on the positive side: clean rooms, friendly english speaking staff.
Negative: the price
Further more, about the location, its good being close to a metro station but saying that, this will go for any other hotel in paris close to a metro station. Which is more important its in the marais neighbourhood which is quite nice with its restaurants and bars, but you have to know how to find them. There are a lot of tourist bars and restaurants which offer nothing special, but it you know where to look there are very interresting places there.
Some other comments on the hotel, which I believe are just incedents, I asked for a room with bath and only got shower, second the room was quite hot and had to use airco to cool it down, and that during winter!!! Since I dont use airco during night, the room was quite hot during the night.
very friendly, accomodating hotel
from dingbattLovely, lovely hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberMy partner and myself have just returned after spending a week at the Castex.
Great location ( easy access to Metro, in the heart of the Marais and within walking distance of Notre Dame etc )
Very helpful and friendly staff ( we had a small problem with the shower in our room so they simply offered us any other vacant room in the hotel)
Clean and comfortable ( the chambermaids even washed the cups we took with us for our daily intake of tea and coffee )
We also got a free night - summer offer of sx nights for the price of five.
We wouldn't hesitate to return to the Castex
First-class!

Great Location
from bmfreeSpotless and very cute
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe hotel was recently renovated (inside not outside so don't panic as you arrive). Beatiful/simple decoration inside. The rooms are small (i've heard this is the norm in Paris) but spotlessly clean and well appointed for a weekend stay. The staff are friendly and the breakfast(not included) is very satisfying. All in all a great find!
Cozy at the Castex
from A TripAdvisor MemberMy girlfriend and I had cute single rooms on the 5th floor that were extremely small but very nice. The rooms were in a hallway with a door that closed off to the elevator area so that we were able to leave our room doors open if we wanted to talk and visit. The rooms were very clean with a great bathroom and large bathtub. The bed was comfy and the window opened to a gorgeous view of Paris rooftops and the beautiful night sky. The breakfast was very good and well worth the price, cereal, fresh breads, butter, jam, pate, yoghurt, cheese, juice, milk, coffe, tea and hot chocolate mix. The front desk was very accomodating and had good restaurant suggestions. I would highly recommend the Italian Restaurant across the street. I would also recommend a small bakery around the block on the Rue du Petit Music, and there is even a coin laundry acroos from the bakery. The metro stops, the Bastille or Sully Morland and easy to get to. This hotel is not particularly fancy, but is an excellent value in a great location.
The staff is friendly and helpful. This was my third stay at the Castex and I will happily stay there again.
It is fab...
from A TripAdvisor MemberLovely room
from A TripAdvisor MemberNothing to write home about
from firery29However, the one true positive is the location. You can basically walk anywhere in Paris from the hotel. The river is a 5 minute walk and the metro is 2 blocks away. One last thought... I compared tons of hotels in the 3 star category from the websites. When comparing the pictures to what you really get, none of them are up to par. The Castex was supposed to be better on the service front, but it was not. Paris was fantastic... definately go, but just don't have high expectations for your hotel!
Very nice place to stay.
from A TripAdvisor MemberTop Local Tips for Paris
Things that are open on Christmas day Pompidou museum is open on Christmas day and was totally uncrowded. Couldn't find any shops open, but there were enough restaurants open to not go hungry in the left bank area.
Visiting the Louvre I bought my ticket a day in advance at the Virgin Record store in the underground shopping plaza connected to the Louvre. This was so that I wouldn't have to wait in two lines, one to enter the building and another to buy my ticket. I got there early, around 9am. There was no line whatsoever, (Maybe about 5 people) to get in to the museum, and not crowded at all. Not sure if this is always the case, but I would definitely recommend getting there early. Later on in the day it was completely packed with people. Also, when you arrive, if its not crowded, head straight for the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. They are the star attractions and get really crowded later in the day. Incredible museum though. Obviously a must see for museum and art lovers!!
Arriving by Metro (Bastille Station) Its a bit disorienting when you exit the Metro. Look for St. Antoine exit. When you come up the escalator, you are facing St. Antoine. Cross the street to get to other side then turn right. Continue down St. Antoine for two blocks. Look for rue Castex and turn left. You will see the hotel sign.
