Historical Traveller Reviews of Caron de Beaumarchais Hotel
From now on, this is the only hotel for us
from A TripAdvisor MemberI feel sorry for the visitor who stayed here June 7. Of course the room is tiny. Every room in Paris is tiny! One needs to rethink space. Our room was positively charming, even with the tiny balcony and bathtub without the curtain (come on! Use a little imagination!). For €152 we had two beds placed together and from which we could see the roofs of the buildings across. The owners are not only charming but extremely helpful. Monsieur le fils (the son) phoned Bordeaux to reconfirm car rental agreements. On the day we checked out, he took both our suitcases and placed them in the trunk of the taxi which he had ordered. The breakfast is almost a work of art. You will be served freshly squeezed orange juice and house made jams (strawberry and apricot), cheeses, yoghurt, superb coffee, a meat spread, fresh fruit, plus the requisite breads. For €9.80, this is a steal. The Beaumarchais motifs abound, from the lobby to the rooms. I spent considerable time reading from historical copies of The Marriage of Figaro, generously framed on walls. If all this wasn't enough, the location can't be beat. Get yourself a map of Paris and look for rue Vieille du Temple. For a very reasonable meal, try the Corsican restaurant l'Alivi around the corner. You will be an instant convert. So just remember: think small--don't bring those heavy, overloaded suitcases that you don't need. Try a little humility and be pleased that you have been chosen to stay in such an establishment. For us, there is now only one hotel we will ever consider: Caron de Beaumarchais.
Charm and Warmth at Caron Beaumarchais

from CAHappyTraveler7Location really makes this the place to stay
from keninCTVery comfortable
from A TripAdvisor MemberIt is in a wonderful location and close to an internet cafe on Rue du Roi Sicile. My daughter described the room as having the feel of a bedroom, not a hotel! The beds were very comfortable, they even had real boxsprings! The water was very hot which allowed us to enjoy a hot bath at the end of the day in a very nice bathroom! They have added air conditioning to the hotel, although this being winter the heat was on, which did get to warm. We opened the window for relief! Our room, 11, was a fine size for 2 people. The management was wonderful in reserving restaurants I had requested ahead of time. They even made dinner reservations for my return trip to Paris 2 weeks after I was checking out of this hotel.
The only negative comment we had was checking out. I knew it would be best to check out the evening before we left. I gave them my American Express card to pay for our bill. He swiped my card, said it didn't work. He told me the magnetic part was not working properly. I knew this was incorrect since I had used the card for dinners and shopping, even on this day. He continued swiping the card, saying it wouldn't work. I asked him to please call American Express then. He said they were closed. It was 6:30 p.m. I just stood there for 15 minutes, not offering another card. Finally, my card magically worked!
I would still recommend this hotel since we had no other problems and they were very helpful in every other way. They also let my daughter borrow an iron to use in our room for 15 minutes! We asked for a discounted rate when I reserved in November and they did give me a 10% discount on our room.
Our Favorite Hotel ever!
from A TripAdvisor MemberGreat location
from catseattle1However, considering the location, it was worth it. There are fabulous cafes and restaurants all in walking distance. We would park ourselves at a table on the street at one of the bars right outside the hotel and enjoy the view until 2 in the morning. We never felt unsafe walking around so late enjoying the night life. We may explore other hotels at our next trip, but we would definitely stay in Marais again.
Best hotel in Paris
from A TripAdvisor MemberPerfect Experience
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe hotel is well appointed and comfortable, the owner and staff were very friendly and helpful, the service was excellent and the location was absolutely perfect. It's very easy to see why this hotel rates so well for the price. I can highly recommend this boutique hotel as one of my new favorites - and look forward to staying here again on my next trip to Paris.
Top Local Tips for Paris
Le Hangar Great, very French, bistro. Have the pumpkin and chestnut soup! Beware - no English was spoken by staff so we had to get by with out (very rusty) French but the food and wine we got was superb! Find it at 12 impasse Berthaud - its a tiny little hidden courtyard so keep your eyes peeled to find it
Taxi - get one on the street, don't order one. We had the hotel call a taxi for us to pick us up at a particular time. The taxi tried to charge us for the amount of money from the destination that he came from and then proceeded to charge us a sur charge for waiting an extra 5 minutes. So, just for stepping into his taxi, he tried to charge us 15 euros - or about 20 dollars. We were happy to pay a small fee, as we do here in the state - one or two dollars when you enter the taxi, even a few dollars for the extra five minutes - but not $20.00 just for the pleasure of stepping into his car. After we refused to get into his car, an argument ensued between my husband, the hotel manager and the taxi-cab driver. So, be sure to ask before hand about all of the additional charges that you will incure before having the hotel phone for a cab. Just make sure that they are fair and reasonable.
Harry's New York Bar - authentic New York Bar For something different that the traditional bistro - have a drink or 2 at Harry's Bar near Opera. ( It has Cuban wood panelling brought over from a new york bar in the 19th century and a very authentic earlt 20th New York bar feel. F Scott Fitzgerald and Hemingway both drunk here. The Bloody Mary was invented here. It's not cheap but the bar men who seem to have been there for ever themselves, know their cocktails and when we went at 2am it was pumping with a mix of Americans and young French drinkers.

I submitted my credit card info. So far, so good, right? Wrong.
The hotel then sent me an e-mail telling methat it had not received my credit card info. I responded by telling them I'd already sent my info and asking them if they had received it. They replied no, but "may be in few times", which I took to mean there might be some delay, and then told me that, when it received the information, it would "reconfirm" my reservation.
I didn't hear from the Hotel again before I left for my trip. After several days, I got fed up and made other arrangements. Unfortunately, the hotel had received my credit card info, after all, and charged me for one night's stay as a "no show." Upon my return, I found e-mails sent by the hotel the night before we had originally intended to stay there, asking me to "reconfirm" my reservation and telling me it would "reconfirm" my reservation in return.
Needless to say, I disputed the charges with my credit card company, and after a lengthy process was told the hotel's bank denied my request. So I'm out almost two hundred bucks (plus the cost of the other room), all for a room I didn't use.
