Historical Traveller Reviews of Britannique Hotel

Excellent value, fabulous find

from darbyo2
My parents were over from the US visiting my husband and me in London. We all went to Paris for the first time in October 04 over a long weekend. After an exhaustive search I settled on Hotel Britannique for our stay because of our budget and the good reviews. I wasn't expecting it to be so perfect! This hotel is excellent value for money. The rooms are quaint, clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. We even had narrow balconies and could see the the top of the Eiffel Tower! This place is such a refreshing change from the usual cookie cutter hotel room. The staff was friendly and happy to help, and the location is excellent. It's only one stop and a couple of blocks from Gare du Nord. We walked to Notre Dame, the Louvre and the Latin Quarter and used the hop on hop off bus to venture further. Paris really wasn't on the top of my list of places to visit, but Hotel Britannique helped to change my mind. I can not wait to return!

Can I stay here forever?

After all of the great reviews for this hotel, I shouldn't have been so
surprised to find how truly charming and perfect this hotel is--but I
was. The staff is friendly and available at any time, the ambiance is
warm and inviting, and the beds were a little slice of heaven. My
husband and I stayed 4 nights at the Hotel Britannique during
Christmas, and they gave us an upgrade to a room with a balcony
overlooking the street! One night we were in a luxury king and the
view was over the courtyard. The next 3 nights we had a room on
the 5th floor overlooking the street. I would definitely ask for the
street view when booking! The luxury king was a little bigger, but
the view of the Hotel de Ville from our room was quite nice. My
husband loved their 12 Euro breakfast because it's all you can eat.
All in all, this is the best hotel I've stayed in while in France--and that
includes the ones that were 200 Euros a night. We booked online and
our room was 140 Euros per night and well worth it!!!

Happy Holidays in Paris

Our family of four just returned from a six night stay over the Christmas holiday in this quaint and ideally located hotel. Two blocks from St. Chapelle, three to the Louvre, a short walk to Notre Dame the isles and the Left Bank. Top it off with a Metro/RER station (Les Halles/Chatelet) with access to the entire city. This hotel is quiet, super clean, with a wonderful, helpful and professional staff. Breakfast was worth it, but there are at least three very French incredible restaurants and delicious boulangerie right around the corner!! I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to staying there again. All of the reviews on Tripadvisor are accurate. . . too bad we don't keep this amongst ourselves! If Hotel Britannique is #60, it is hard to imagine numbers 1 through 59.

I love this place

I stayed only one night on November 16th but I was charmed by the staff and the hotel. I stayed in a single which surprised me by not being way too small. The only thing that could have made the stay nicer was a bathtub (the room had only a shower) in which to soak my tired feet. The staff was very helpful and pleasant, the buffet breakfast fine and the location is great. I hope to be back for a longer stay soon.

wonderful stay at the Brittanique

I chose this hotel based on the reviews from this site and it was an excellent choice. The staff was very friendly and helpful, location was very central to everything and the hotel was charming, comfortable and clean. There is a wonderful patisserie around the corner. There is also an ATM and supermarche (grocery store) nearby. I would definitely stay here again.

Fabulous Hotel!

Chic, reasonable rates, fantastic location and personable staff. You can't go wrong - I will definitely stay here again and again. I've been to Paris several times and this one is my favorite!

Wonderful place, Superb service.

The location is ideal, the hotel is full of charm, the staff is very professional and friendly, the service is first-class. We use this place at a corporate level, but I used it recently privately to organise a surprise week-end for my wife's birthday. Everything was perfect, and I would definitely do it again. I strongly recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a classy romantic place in Paris.

Perfect base to see Paris!

My husband and I just returned from a 12 day stay in Paris at the Britannique. I found it on the internet and found it to be just as it appeared. It was cozy and welcoming and very Parisian. The reception staff was unbelievably helpful with dinner and concert reservations. The lounge and breakfast room were truly charming. Certainly the size of the lift and the rooms is small but that's Paris. However, our room was beautifully decorated with all the amenities you could want. It had a very comfortable bed with wonderful linens. The bathroom was small but had a stand up style shower as we had requested. It was newly redone with beautiful tile. The breakfast was excellent, large with great variety. Most of all, we couldn't have asked for a better location, minutes from everything. It is on a tree lined street that is very quiet, yet just a block from the Seine. We hope to return to Paris and would plan to stay at the Britannique again.

Great hotel, even better location

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have stayed at this hotel twice now. Both times I have been very impressed with the friendly staff, clean rooms and good service.

The rooms are not huge but the decor is first class, there's air con as well which is a great relief if you are visiting Paris durning July and August.

The reception staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, even printing off maps and museum details from the internet if needed. Their English is good and they will even humour you if you wish to attempt to speak in French.

The location was perfect for our stay, being situated on a fairly quiet side street but just a short walk from many main tourist attractions. The Louvre, Pompidou Centre, Notre Dame and the Seine are all just minutes away. If you want to visit the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triumphe, etc you can jump on the one of the many river boats or use a tour bus. There are also several restaurant/bars just 50 yards down the road.

For a 3 star hotel, I highly recommend this establishment. I will definately be staying here again next time I visit.

Charming hotel located in 1st arr

from patricia505
My daughter and I stayed here in February and were very happy with our room, the staff, the wonderful full breakfast, the sitting room and the location-on the shortest street in Paris.

Of course the rooms are small but the bathroom was wonderful...tub and shower combo. We were on the first floor, up the landing looking out to the street. We were there during the French Academy Awards season so were able to see the action up close, but quietly.

Best of all English papers and BBC to keep up on the world news. I plan to return this Fall and would recommend this charming hotel to others.

Top Local Tips for Paris

Don't be trapped into Tourist travel. If you intend to use the excellent Metro/RER/bus service a lot to get around buy a Mobilis ticket or a Carnet of 10 tickets. I noticed a big push for visitors to buy a more expensive Paris Visite Pass for which there was really no need.

Moulin Rouge Do it but do it without the meal, food below average, show excellent.

Le Petite Chatelet An outstanding restaurant little more than a block from Notre Dame on Rue Bucherie. Bertrand and his wife were very friendly, helpful, and they actually employ a chef rather than just cooks which so many of the other restaurants do.
