Top Local Tips for Paris
Where is the good French Food We were all very disappointed with the food in Pairs. We expected every restaurant to be spectacular and frankly we didn't have any truly great meals. Our average dinner price was between $50 and $70 per person with wine. We found meats overcooked, prawns undercooked, sauces non-existent, and service awful, but the wine was good.Our best meal was inProvence at Oliver's in Clavier and another at Lake Cassein in the same area.
Dont be the Ugly American when you enter a shop, cafe, anything, at least say "Bon Jour." Parisians are friendly, if you at least try to communicate. They feel their businesses are like their homes, you greet them when you enter. Ask if anyone speaks English. I went into a chocolate shop and followed this advice. The clerk actually went NEXT DOOR and got a clerk who spoke English AND they gave me free chocolate samples. We had absolutly no bad treatment, and I believe it is because my husband and I followed this advice.
Shuttle to/from Airport - Walking Shoes - Everybody Smokes - Tipping 1) The shuttle bus from CDG is very afforable and takes you to the Arc de Triomphe. You can get a round trip ticket at a discount. 2) You will do lots of walking so skip the hot high heels and wear sneakers or comfy boots. You'll need to manueuver up and down lots of stairs, stand on the Metro and roaming on foot is part of the adventure. 3) If you're a non-smoker, be prepared to eat in smoke-filled restaurants. Everybody is puffing away without any regard for non-smokers. 4) Do not tack on the usual 15-20 percent to your restaurant check. It's included. All you need to do is put down a Euro or two as a courtesy. And the taxi drivers should NOT charge you per person, but there is a fee for handling your bags. HAVE A GREAT TRIP!
