SCALE
On a scale from 1 to 5 stars, (with 1 being the worst conditions imaginable and 5 being the epitome of hotel greatness,) the Best Western Villa Des Artistes rates a big, fat ZERO.
INTRO
If you're looking for a hotel with discourteous employees, unforeseen plumbing disasters and a shortage of rooms, this is definitely the place for you. If, however, you are in search of an enjoyable hotel experience with friendly staffers and ample accommodations, then you would do best to avoid the Villa Des Artistes entirely.
Please read on to find both a short and longer account, (the latter is also known as a "manifesto,") of our nightmarish Villa experience. Whichever one you read, though, the moral of the story remains the same: Under NO circumstances should you stay in this awful, godforsaken excuse for a hotel.
SHORT VERSION
Summary of Experience:
The hotel manager gave away our room, then blatantly lied about it. Instead of explaining that he'd overbooked, he told us an incredulous story about a "terrible flood" destroying all the rooms on our floor. He then booked us at a vastly inferior neighboring hotel, and pocketed the price-differential.
Review:
The aesthetically-pleasing courtyard and quaint neighborhood of the Villa Des Artistes were, nonetheless, overshadowed by its lying hotel manager and crazy floor-destroying floods. Great-looking bar, though.
Conclusion:
Reservations mean nothing to these people. They give your room away, and then laugh at you in french. Never, ever stay here. Ever.
LONG VERSION:
Summary of Experience:
Although we'd paid in advance, confirmed our reservation 48 hours prior, and brought along our voucher (i.e. proof of payment), the hotel was somehow unable to find our names in the computer. After informing us that there was "un petit problem" with our room, the concierge called over the hotel manager, whereupon the two conversed(in French,) and admitted that the hotel had made a mistake and overbooked.
Nevertheless, the manager then addressed us in English, explaining that a "giant flood," (apparently of biblical proportions), "[had] completely destroyed all of zee rooms on our floor."
As a result of "zee flood," the manager informed us that our room was no longer available, and offered to find us alternate accommodations at a neighboring hotel.
Unsurprisingly, we found the new hotel to be vastly inferior, leaving us to understand that the Villa Des Artistes had rented a room for us at a cheaper rate, and pocketed the difference. Note: This "understanding" was confirmed by the concierge at our New Crappy Hotel, who spoke quite frankly about the Villa Des Artistes' policy of overbooking, and subsequent unloading its pre-paid guests.)
Review:
Jeez, were you even reading? The manager of the hotel told us that our room was destroyed by a giant flood, then booted us to a Motel 6 across the street. My life now has a purpose, and that purpose is to ensure that the Hotel a la Vista Des Artistes is SHUT DOWN.
Conclusion: Pop-culturally speaking, this place is the Ashlee Simpson of hotels. A pretty little package, but when you get right down to it, it's just a big, fat lip-synching lie. No one looking for a relaxing Paris vacation should have to contend with fictional floods and dirty, lying Frenchmen. Not only should you never stay here, but you should forward this review to everyone you know and love, and prevent them from making the mistake of a lifetime. It's too late for us. But please--save yourselves.

Top Local Tips for Paris
Be adventurous We tried several cafes and restaurants -- we ordered using our basic French and found every meal in every place was delicious! Eat where the locals do and you can't go wrong!
Etiquette Always try to speak some French - even if it's just "bonjour". The French do appreciate it when people try to speak their language and will help you if you get stuck.
Musee d'Orsay You really need to see this place! Go early in the morning so you can avoid waiting in line any more than you have to. Start at the top as this is where the Impressionists are. You can get within inches of such famous paintings as Whistler's Mother. Look at the architecture of the building as well.
