We were very scared after reading some of the reviews the day before we were going to Paris. However, we were surprised in a good way after our arrival.
The room was big enough for two and clean. The bathroom was clean with fresh towels every day and the room had a small refrigerator. There is no aircondition, but that was not a problem in February. I do understand that it is probably not the best place to stay during the summer.
The staff were all very helpful and kind and made us feel both looked after and safe.
The area is not a particular good one per se, but if you walk for only 5 minuts you reach very nice and good locations like Montmartre. The Metro stop is Blanche and it is 3 minuts away from the hotel. However, the hotel is placed in the beginning of a somewhat dodgy area, so I totally understand why some would feel a bit startled.
We payed 300 EUR for a double-room for four nights including breakfast, so it is incredibly cheap and you have to take that under consideration as well. All in all, we had a good time and the hotel itself did in no way compromise our stay, but you have to know what you're aiming at when you book this hotel.

When I presented my voucher to the hotel clerk for the reserved room, I was told they were booked but he would place me at a sister hotel down the street. The sister was a flop house with a room no bigger than 8feet square. The bed was a matress on the floor and the bath was filthy. Stay away from this plcae.

I read the reviews, but still was not prepared for the large closet style room on 1st floor. Room was small, hot, no shower head, only hand held shower with broken bracket. Window opened up to sitting room off lobby. We were only there at night to sleep, for 2 nights, so not that bad. The breakfast was coffee, juice, and bread with jam. The help at night were professional, but the day manager/owner was not. Definitely a 1-2 star only.

We spent here three nights in the beginning of july 2006. Three stars are definately too much, one star would be accurate. Very small and hot rooms. Separate beds, as double bed was promised, no minibar, no safety box, no room service as promised. No room cleaning after the first night, not even the beds were done. The breakfast was typically French, that is: almost nothing. We don't recommend this hotel to anyone!

Having read the reviews only a couple of days before leaving for paris, I was thinking oh my god what have i done. It was a birthday treat for my girlfriend, so i instantly thought it was going to be a let down.we prepared for the worst but having just spent 4 nights there were pleasantly surprised.Hotel was clean, rooms were big enough, cleaned daily. The only minus i had was that i'd paid for breakfast which was only a coffee, croissant and bread roll.Maybe thats just us british expecting a big fry up. Staff were very polite and after all youre in Paris and you dont spend much time in your room.
Not as bad as I thought

I booked my trip to Paris on a shoestring budget. Before I went away I read all the reviews about the hotel and was petrified and fully prepared for the worst, but it wasn't too bad at all.
It is a budget hotel and does not pretend to be otherwise. Yes the rooms are small and the hallways a bit dingy but what did you expect at that price? I found staff helpful and the room and bathroom very clean. I agree it should not be labelled as three star but I had a great trip and to be fair, in a city like Paris you're not going to be in the room much anyway.

We booked the Apollo opera thinking it is a nice 3*hotel but it turned out quite bad. The room was small, bed was creaking and the paint on the wall was peeling off. The linen was stained and towels too were damp. The bathrooms were tiny and the room overlooked a dirty area. On top of all this even the staff was not polite or helpful. We spent 6 nights there and it was bad. The only silver lining was that the city of Paris was so good.

I had read a few reviews about this hotel prior to a stay in october 2005. This had only slightly prepared me for the disappointment ahead. The room was small with just enough space to place a small case and the beds were uncomfortable and single even though we'd booked a double. the bathroom was tiny but had the advatage of an good shower. The breakfast was not worth mentioning and on the occasion that i did make it down, i was very unimpressed with the single pastry and weak tea. For all the time spent in the hotel room in the city of Paris, this may be deemed as adaquate. The location was excellent as we were accessible to all areas of paris and there were an numbe rof off liciences placed nearby, for those pre-dinner drinks. I would be prepared for a 1 star stay, that way you will not be too disappointed.
Move to 2 star hotel - it goes on !

We had two nights in the Apollo Opera end of August 2005. Luckily enough I found this page and read the reviews a couple of days before we went. As I know Paris hotels I was not worried about small, hot and smelly which is Paris standard. But I was worried about the possible transfer to a different hotel. As I speak fluent french I called the hotel and got the confirmation that in fact the rooms were available in that very hotel as booked.
You can imagine the rest: When we arrived we heard the same song & dance, "Sorry, overbooked but rooms available in a different hotel blablabla". I raised hell, telling them that they confirmed it only a couple of days before etc. The little girl at the reception reacted quickly, gave us our keys and said "Then somebody else has to take the other hotel!" THIS IS A F***ING SCAM ! They regularly overbook their shopfront hotel and pass a number of guests through to another place nobody has heard of and will ever book.
So be aware ! Otherwise it was not to bad, an empty minibar to keep your BYO beer cool and a few good not to expoensive restaurants around.

Hotel Ratings My advice if you want a reasonable hotel is to book at least a 4 star hotel as anything less than that is generally very basic or worse! The 3 star rating in Paris is very different to the 3 star rating in Britain!
