Quirky hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here for 3 nights in mid Sept 2004. After many requests, we were allocated an artists double room with a balcony. The location of the hotel is good (in b/t the beach and train station) and the rooms were large and very clean. Staff were generally helpful (great recommendation for dinner at Les Viviers), but this hotel lacks the WOW factor we were expecting.

The Oasis

Excellent facility for a moderate price! Staff very pleasant and informative. Outdoor tropical garden for breakfast with a parrot for attraction made for very pleasant eating surroundings. Also, convenient to all areas with minimum walking.. Can't be beat for the price!!!

s a nice place

I stayed at this place in June of 2004. I recommend it if you are traveling on budget. The artist room I got (New Year) was kinda ugly, but it didn't matter. The location is nice. The room is clean. There is free PC in the lobby connected to the Internet, but it's in a very small "room" (more like a closet) so you won't want to spend too much time on the internet. Breakfast is expensive. They first told me that it was included with the price of the room, but when it was time to check out, they charged extra for the breakfast. So, be careful.

Great little Hotel!

Myself and my sister stayed in the Hotel Windsor at end of July 2004 - it was great! Close to everything we needed during our 3 night stay - restaurants, beaches, train station. Pool was fantastic - although does not really get the sun during the day so not a place to plan to sun bathe! Breakfast there was beautiful - wish we had eaten there every morning instead of just the last one. Little bit of a walk from the night life in the old town - but manageable. Staff were great and very accommodating. Rooms unusual and quaint, and extremely clean. Would definitely plan to return.

Fantastic Hotel

Absolutely fantastic hotel. Great value for the money, excellent location, very comfortable rooms with nice new furnishings. Very cool bathrooms. Stayed for 11 nights in two different rooms. Very spacious especially the rooms with balconies. Large French Doors let in lots of light. Garden/Pool area is beautiful and nicely maintained. The staff is very helpful and full of suggestions. Nearly everything is within walking distance of the hotel. This hotel was recommended to me by a friend who stays there every year. I now see why. Highly recommended!!

Great hotel, great price

I just returned from a four-night stay at the Windsor. To put it mildly, this is a really terrific hotel. The combination of quirky-ness and calm makes the Windsor a real find. We had a top-floor room with a balcony overlooking the hills of Nice. At first, I was concenrned because our room was very near the elevator, but the double-door with foyer completely cut out any hallway noise. The balcony was beautiful, and the window/shutter combination eliminated any noise from the outside.

If you stay at the Windsor, be sure to opt for the breakfast in the private courtyard. At a price of 8 Euros, it's an all-you-can-eat steal, and the setting is just beautiful.

I'd recommend this hotel to anyone who's looking for something off the beaten path. If you want to stay in the lap of luxury, the Windsor is not for you. But if you want a good, clean, funky, well-priced hotel, with a very attentive staff and a good location...the Windsor is your best bet.

Right for the price

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had a room with a balcony overlooking the garden. It was quite attractive with some quirky decoration but other than that was nothing special. Nice is expensive anyway and the film festival was happenning in Cannes so it was probably about right for the price. The staff were all excellent and really friendly. The only serious criticism was the noise from ajacent rooms and from the garden early in the morning.

Interesting !

from Travellergirl75
I really wanted to stay in a standard room but they were fully booked so I had to spend a little more and take a superior room. The room was much smaller than I expected for the price and was very basic (there was no shower attachment on the wall , very frustrating ! ) My room also overlooked the garden which meant that I was woken at 7.30 every morning with the early risers who liked an early breakfast . However the hotel was very quirky, the staff were incredibly friendly and it was also very clean .The hotel is in an ideal location, approx 15 mins walk from the old town and only 10 mins away from the train station ( i recommend that you go to Cannes , its only 25mins on the train). My only advice would be to take a cheaper room as the the more expensive rooms are not really worth the exra euros .

We stayed two different nights in April 2004. Found the artists' rooms to be quite intriguing. Although I'd booked a standard room (105 Euros) they insisted that I take a superior room (140 Euros). Since I'd reduced my stay from 4 nights to just 2, didn't feel that I had grounds to complain. We loved our second room, standard so smaller but still fine for two of us. Charming decor in "La Cage au Mouche" (the flycatcher cage). Clean, well located hotel. Double doors on all rooms a nice touch. Free internet in lobby also handy. Minibar in room with 2.50 Euros for juice, cola, water, etc.

Ideal for a weekend break...

Fantastic little hotel. Our visit was out of season, so pool not in service, but garden still nice. Very friendly service. Dutch speaking receptionist (for fellow Nederlanders!) while we were there, which helped as my school-boy French is a bit limited. (Of course, they speak English too!) Clean room. Nice balcony. Small rooms by US standards but fine for Europe, and especially for the price. Liked the artistic touch to our room - so much more character than a standard business-class hotel. Internet in lobby for those who can't be away from e-mail; but I have to say we preferred wandering the streets of old Nice about 10 minutes walk away. Gorgeous!
