Historical Traveller Reviews of Les Cigales Hotel
This cute hotel is only 2 blocks from the beach!!! The rooms were clean and bright and the staff was very helpful.
Great location and super rooms, but VERY noisy inside hotel
This hotel was very, very nice in so many ways. The rooms were clean, beds comfortable and staff extremely welcoming. Location is superb, with the beach, old town, vast range of restaurants and shops and main bus stop all within a 10 minute walk.
The major downside for me was that the hotel was VERY noisy. Yes the rooms are 'sound proofed' from external noise, with all windows double glazed, but the actual internal walls between the rooms are paper-thin. Ours was a partition/stud wall and we could hear our neighbours talking, going to the loo, sneezing and opening and shutting their wardrobe and room doors.
If you're a heavy sleeper this won't bother you, but we had to give in and ended up buying some ear plugs to get us through the night!!
All in all a very pleasant hotel and great location for the price.
The room was clean and nicely furnished, but small. The bathroom was adequate size and modern. The staff (especially Veronica) was courteous and helpful. Sound carries from the lobby which is close to the first floor rooms. The promanade is only three blocks from the hotel. Overall we had a nice stay.
What a lovely hotel
My friends and I just got back from a long weekend in Nice where we stayed at the hotel Les Cigales. What a lovely hotel, the staff there could not have been more friendly and helpful. The room we had was a nice size, even though the three of us shared we did not find it cramped, and it was lovely and clean. It was in a great location, although about a 15 / 20 mintues walk to the old town, it was only a couple of minutes to the sea front. There was also a nice pedestrian area with lots of shops and restaurants just around the corner and on the way to the old town so if the walk proves too far it's easy to stop for a couple of glasses of the local wine on the way.
I would definately go back to Nice and I would definately stay at this hotel again, for a 3 star it was excellent and great value for money too.
Just what we wanted
I had booked this hotel after reading previous reviews on this site and we were not disappointed. The small hotel is spotlessly clean and immediately creates the feel of being well looked after. The reception staff are friendly, helpful, and the bedroom and shower room were pleasantly decorated and of a good size (superior rooms). The hotel is well located very near the main shopping area with the old town a little further away - but all within walking distance. There is a carpark about 200 metres from the hotel (13 euros per day) but there is a reserved 'off loading' bay available at the hotel door. In our opinion this was an ideal base for our two night stay in the Nice area.
Perfect little hotel!
My husband and I stayed here for a week and loved it. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and very pretty. The mini-fridge was a big plus. Great location: an easy walk to the train station, the pedestrian streets, the promenade. There's a little grocery store and a drugstore in the same block. We will definitely come back.
We stayed at the Cigales for a few days straight after New Year. What a gem of a hotel. The location couldn't have been better; just a stroll from the promenade and also to the Old Town and Cours Saleya.
The hotel was bright and modern and the room was spotlessly clean with all the comforts required for a short stay.
The reception staff were very welcoming and very informative, supplying us with maps, train timetables, etc.
We would definitely stay here again.
Charming small hotel in ideal location
Just back from 4 nights in Nice staying at les Cigales. This is a charming small hotel in an ideal location for the promenade de Anglais, the train station and also not too far from the old town. The staff are pleasant, cheerful, polite and very helpful, they also speak very good english. The breakfast is a typical continental style and I disagree with previous comment, it is served in a basement room but it is not dull, I found it quite bright and cheerful. It could possibly be enhanced with a little background music. We had a superior room for 3 of us and it was quite spacious and as asked for, very quiet indeed! one of the quietest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. Although not luxurious it is modern and extremely clean. Would definitely return to this lovely hotel.
Excellent choice, cozy and clean, good location!
My husband and I stayed for six nights in a double standard room on the ground floor. The room was small but clean and very confortable. We always got a good nights sleep even though our window faced the street, because it is not a busy street. We could hear voices from the lobby sometimes, but this didn't bother us. The bathroom had a tub and hairdryer. The location was great because we could walk to the beach, to the main bus station and to the train station easily. There is a drugstore across the street from the hotel, a store with fresh fruit two doors down and a bakery down the street, where they have wonderful croissants and even great sub-type sandwiches for picnics. We never had breakfast at the hotel. There is a street full of shops and restaurants very close by, where we had dinner most nights. If the price doesn't go up after all these good reviews, we will probably stay there again the next time we go to Nice.
Very Nice Hotel
Recently spent three night at Les Cigales and we were pleased with the room and service. Our room, on the second floor, had a ceiling with a significant slope. As my husband is six feet tall, it could have become a problem if we had not spent most of our time touring and only returned to the room to change or sleep. That is also probably why our rate was so reasonable. The room and bathroom were meticulously clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is on a nice street and the location is perfect - just far enough away for a quiet night, but a short walk to everything. Would definitely return.
Top Local Tips for Nice
There's a bus from the airport that takes you to the railway station for 4 euros each way and it only takes about 20 minutes. That ticket is also usable for the rest of the same day around Nice and area (a sort of rover ticket). The trains to the surrounding towns are also plentiful and cheap and well worth investigating. The tourist office are very helpful with this, as was the hotel receptionist.
Taxi from Nice airport to the hotel should be around 25-30 euros
Go to the top of the Contemporary Art Museum and enjoy the view and art from the roof deck.
