Top Local Tips for Nice
Getting around by bus and train Very easy and cheap to get around by bus. I missed intended train because of 20 minute queue for tickets at train station (Gare SNCF) - so be prepared for this and get there well ahead of time. I learned later there is a SNCF office where you can purchase train tickets in advance, I think somewhere close to bus station (Gare Routiere), so would use this next time. I found going out for the day in morning on public transport easy, but returning the buses and trains were very crowded, often standing room only, so plan to return earlier, or wait until later in evening, probably after 7:30 pm if you want to avoid this. I allowed 2.5 hours to flight time to catch express bus to airport from the casino stop on Promenade. Buses supposed to run every 20 mins but for some reason had stopped operating. When the second bus failed to appear I was very lucky to get a shared taxi with others and taxis were scarce because of this unexpected problem. I was told by a native that this is typical!
