Historical Traveller Reviews of Four Points Sheraton Elysee Palace Hotel

from Phillinea
After reading others reviews of this hotel we did not expect much when we arrived. But it was actually worse than we imagined. The only good part was that it was a bit away from all the traffic on the Promenade so it was very quite.

We upgraded to one of the best rooms available. But the smokey glass front makes the whole hotell dark and gloomy. There is no actual day light. The room was very 70-tish and almost depressing. We were very happy that we only stayed two nights.

The restaurant was so expensive that we loughed out loud when reading the menue. Even for Nice standard. The quality of the food was way below average. Food in France is otherwise so wonderful! Avoid the hotel restaurant!

We have spent a lot of time in the South of France and for others who are using this site to help plan a trip there. Don't stay at this hotel! There are so many other genuine, piqturesque and charming places to stay all along the coast. The french residences you can find all the way from Nice to St Tropez are so beautiful and cosy. With gardens and terraces for each room. Less expensive than this place. That is the real France. Stay there, not here! :-)

Sheraton is nice in Nice

from DavidMooney
The Sheraton Hotel is good value for money. If you search for a deal, we got to stay on the executive floor(7) for 185 Euros per night. Great sea view through tinted window it also keeps the room nice and cool.
Reception very helpful and polite, rooftop pool is excellent.
The location is a little out of town, but a very pleasent walk into the centre, there are also bus stops travelling in both directions outside the hotel.
Overall I would recomend this hotel.

A Poor deal

from Jposephus
Stayed 7 nights - standard rooms are dark and minimal size overlooking concrete yards - wardrobe drawers fall apart : sevice in over-priced restaurant ( 40 mins wait ) well below standard expected - very very limited menu ;
breakfast buffet - average but scrambled eggs sloshy -
Reception staff - remotely polite - wont change Euro travellers cheques.
Parking underground at 17 euros per day ; surface parking same charge !!
Location few yards from front but taxi ride to central shops.
Never again

Enjoyed our stay...average hotel

from Grifon
My husband and I were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Hotel on our first trip to South of France. I agree that its not right on the sea front, but is in a good location and our room did have a side view. Albeit through a very smokey glass window ! A balcony would have been perfect. The room was very spacious, clean and modern. I agree with other people that the Roof Top Pool definitly sells the hotel ! Its a god-send. And means you dont have to pay over the top prices to sit on the crowded, pebbled beach. Lovely little restaurants line the sea front and there are plenty of bars to frequent too ! we met up with another couple in the Hotel and had a fabulous 4 day break.
Although we will definitley go back to South of France, I also agree that we would try one of the other cities that I hear are much nicer than Nice.

I've only given Above Average because of the Pool !!

Thank God for the pool

My wife and I stayed here for one week with our two boys, aged 4 and 6, and even though we required two rooms, it was worth the extra $ because of the rooftop pool, which provided a welcome alternative to the crowded, uncomfortable stone beaches. Great little bakeries and coffee shops in the neighborhood, and the center of town is a 10-15 minute walk down the beautiful Promenade des Anglais. Would recommend this property if only for the pool. Otherwise, stay in a town with sandy beaches.

Friendly Staff

The hotel is located a half block off the prominade which reduces some of the noise. The room was clean and spacious and the staff were very helpful and accomodating. The hotel was a short walk to many restaurants and shops and has a deal with one of the beaches that was fun. However, this 4 star hotel was not as nice as some of the 3 star hotels in other parts of France. But I'm not sure if there are any great hotels in Nice that are reasonably priced. I would stay here again if I was going to Nice, but I would probably opt for one of the other French Riviera cities with a little more appeal than the hustle and bustle (and dirt) of Nice.

Okay but not great

from A TripAdvisor Member
My children and I spent 2 nights at the Four Points when we arrived in Nice. The staff was very helpful and we had a Jr. suite for a great price but parking was 17 euros a night and a beer at the pool was 10 euros. The room was non smoking but the floor was not. The pool stays open until about 7 or 7:30 pm. More used for singles or groups on vacation rather than families. People on the deck did not like children in the pool. Kinda far from the center of old Nice. Great location for beach though. Would stay here again but not for a long stay(this was our 2nd time).

Not up to Starwood Standards

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just came back from staying at this hotel and can say it was a disappointment. Only the exterior is modern. The rooms are decorated in art deco and look old. The bath is a typical European bath. The staff is extra helpful and speak very good English. The location is steps from the Promanade. Walkable to Old Town but wouldn't advise it. We took the bus there but at 10:00PM the buses were no longer running and a taxi wasn't readily available. It is a standard European hotel.

Overpriced and questionable billing practice

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have stayed here several times because I have platinum status with Starwood and get upgraded to a junior suite. Even in their sea view rooms, you have to kind of crook your neck to see the sea as the building is primarily perpendicular to the sea and set back from it as others have mentioned on a side street.

First, like most hotels in the area, this hotel is showing its age despite the renovated lobby. So the price they demand has become a very bad value (unless you can get an upgrade with SPG status).

But in my last stay, they billed me in a way that has made me decide never to stay at this hotel and to pursue legal options. I had booked via starwood with the room rate quoted in Euros. When I checked out, they gave me a hotel receipt for the correct amount in Euros, but when they chraged my credit card, they converted the Euros to US dollars using their high and arbitrary exchange rate and charged the card in US dollars and thereby getting for themselves the room rate as well as an exchange rate premium for themselves. Every other place has correctly charged my credit card in Euros.

If you are paying with a US credit card, tell them before you give the credit card that you want to be charged in Euros or better still avoid this hotel for the poor value and the unethical billing practice that tries to deceive you.

Nearly on The Promenade

from Kendo
Ok, so there is little exageration to state that this hotel is ctually th front, but it's near enough, also the sea views are sort of side on so again alittel creativity shown with the discription - that being said however it is a good enough 4* hotel - overpriced? well that's the south of France but it didn't really fail for me. Decent sized room, clean and well presented, usual mod cons. Good roof top pool and bar area. Location is at the quiet end of the Prom, a good walk from the Old Town but enough to work up an appetite or walk off a good meal. We enjoyed it and would stay there again.

Top Local Tips for Nice

dining We tried several restaurants in and out of Nice. Keisukematsushima was an exceptionally good Michelin 1 star going on 2 (innovative great tastes with low fat ingredients); Les Pecheurs has a great location on the docks (facing amazingly fancy private boats) and excellent seafood. Chateau Eza is a few miles up a steep hill with an amazing few of the bay, which you pay for at their good but expensive 1 star restaurant.

Expensive area Take lots of money to Nice

The meridien Hotel - Roof top Terrace Go here nad have a glass of Rose and take in the moment...............................................
