Nice Hotel Good Location

from Juliet2006
I spent 3 nights at this hotel to celebrate my boyfriend’s 30th birthday and found the hotel to be in a great location, a couple of minutes walk from the train station which was ideal as the 99 bus from the airport takes you to the station.

Hotel was nice with a lovely terraced garden. Our room was a good size with a balcony overlooking the street. The bathroom was split in two with a separate toilet which is a good idea but the toilet was very small and was like sitting in a cupboard, we could just about shut the door and we're not big at all. If you get a chance then request a garden view as it was a bit noisy at night with the traffic outside.

Only thing I would point out obviously it depends who you book with but I thought that the breakfast was included in the price and I found out when we left that it wasn’t – it was my own fault, but I still thought the 10 Euro per person for breakfast was quite expensive for a basic buffet breakfast. Had I have realised it wasn’t included I would have gone down the road and had breakfast at one of the café / patisseries which offered a variety of combinations for breakfast for around 7 euros.

Location was great, near the station as I’ve already mentioned and a 10 minute walk to Promenade des Anglais. Nice is a beautiful town, with lots to see and do and with Monte Carlo, Cannes and many other resorts a short distance around the coat it’s an ideal place to stay.

Excellent place to stay - would stay there again!

A great place to stay. Close to the train station and bus stop from the airport (#99). The Excelsior is about 15 minutes walk to the Promenade des Anglais, seafront and popular restaurant area. It is also very conveniently located, 5 to 10 minutes from the main shopping road!

The hotel itself is clean, quiet, staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast offered plenty: yogurts, cereals, cold buffet, croissants and pains au chocolat, French baguette, jams and of course, juice and hot drinks.

I will bookmark the hotel as if we go back to Nice, we will definitely stay there again!

Happy stay in Nice,

We had 3 triple rooms for a group of 9 in late June 2007. Chose this hotel for its proximity to the train station. The rooms were good size and very clean. Staff was helpful. Breakfast was very good. Nice courtyard. We could walk to the beach and Old Nice in about 15minutes or take the bus.

Great hotel for train travellers

from kingsley8890
Having read previous reviews on Tripadvisor I took a punt and booked this hotel using a recommended website. My friend and I wanted accommodation close to the train station/airport navette and this was perfect, so much so that I booked a night 8 weeks later for my husband and I. Bearing in mind its proximity to the station, even with the windows open (we had a garden room, which helped) there was little if any noise. The bedroom was actually quite large for this rating of hotel, the bathroom immaculate and the breakfast room was spacious. Breakfast was included in the cost and was substantial for a French hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to be right on the sea front.

Good hotel!

from Monty875
We stayed here for 3 nights in Oct 2006. Our room overlooked the garden to the rear of the hotel (I had requested a quiet room) and had French doors opening onto a small balcony. The room was clean, comfortable and as described by the website. Nice bathroom too. Breakfast was good, and staff very helpful and friendly.

The hotel is very well situated, near to the Gare SCNF, but on a quiet sidestreet. It is easy to find, the no.99 bus from the airport takes you straight to it!! Altogether an easy to recommend hotel and one we would go to again!!

Lovely little surprise

from The_Townie
Discovered this little gem by accident. It's seen better days, but the rooms are quite grand and the staff down-to-earth and helpful. It's on a quiet street and very near the station. Liked it a lot, especially for the price.

Not bad for the money

from LynnyP
We stayed in the Excelsior for a week from 16 September; requested a triple room online and got it (a queen and a single), but in future I would probably request a room overlooking the garden (our room at the front of hotel was rather noisy at night, even from the 4th floor). However, our room was large and very clean, with a fridge and en suite bathroom, etc. Breakfast was included in the price and was more than adequate. The location of the hotel is good for travelling; we went most places by train and the Gare SNCF is just across the road. But if you should arrive by bus from the airport, don't be put off by the few sex shops and strip clubs you can see nearby - the area seems fine for walking around at night. Also, if you think you will be spending more time in Nice itself, than travelling, maybe go for a hotel a bit closer to the Promenade des Anglais - my mother is in her 60s and found the walk back and forward quite a trek (its about 15-20 minutes).
If you need advice on daytrips, etc. the hotel staff are pleasant and helpful with enquiries. They also speak good enough English, if required. All in all, the Excelsior was fine: we didn't expect wonders for the money we paid and were pleased with our choice.

Excellent location for the train station

from Marie567
We took the number 99 bus from the airport to the train station and the hotel is literally 2 mins from there. The staff at reception are lovely - really friendly and helpful. Our room was a good size. Rooms were cleaned every morning. The breakfast was a bit basic but we expected that from a 3* hotel. However most of the mornings that we went for breakfast the tables had not been cleaned.
The location couldn't be better if you want to be near the train station. You can travel to Cannes, Antibes, Monaco, etc from here and the train fares are very reasonable.
The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk from the Promenade.
If you are looking for a quiet room ask to be allocated a room away from the service room! Unless you want to be woken up at 7 every morning!
Overall it is a very good standard for a 3* hotel and an excellent base for travelling in the South of France.

Excellent hotel. Will definitely be going back.

from RagazzaScozzese
My husband and I stayed here for one night and will definitely go back. It was a lovely hotel in a quiet location about 10 minutes walk from Vieux Nice, Promenade des Anglais etc. There is a pretty little courtyard area and we had a room that was almost like a little cottage within the courtyard. The breakfast was good and the staff were very helpful. We were particularly impressed given how reasonably priced it was. Would definitely recommend it.

Very nice - with a student travel group

from A TripAdvisor Member
Hotel was very quaint - we stayed in the "garden house" - not the main hotel. Very pleasant!
Room was cozy; air conditioning worked fantastic! Bathroom was large, but shower was weird - no shower curtain and water got everywhere.
Accommodating to my student group - would stay there again!

Top Local Tips for Nice

Train station Nice station is smaller than anticipated so there is a problem carting luggage down great flights of steps. Mind you, there is an 'up' escalator onto the main concourse. So travel light, especially if you're not young and strapping.

Where does it start? Make sure you know where something departs from. Ask,ask and ask again

Trains The train and bus system around the region of Cote d'azur was great. You can ride the regional train from Nice to Monte Carlo for 6.00 euros per person. The schedule is well displayed and trains were punctual. Easy way to get around the area
